Are IEMs the ultimate poorfag headphones?
I got mine 4y ago, since then only swapped the cord twice (5€, I sleep wearing IEMs) and eartips (also nothing, can also scavenge from shittiest 6€ headphones).

>>108834907
Yes. But usually people have filters die in a year. Depends on the climate I guess.
>>
>>108834931

I have a pair of Moondrop Kato IEMs and I would like to try something else for fun. Are these Linsoul ZiiGaat Horizons decent? Is my $10 Amazon USB-C splitter to charger/3.5mm jack more than enough for them (they're low impedance), or should I pay another $30-50 for a better (balanced?) DAC?

Music listened to is mostly classical and "prog rock".

Reviews read okay for what I'm after. The near "monitor"-like sterility isn't a terrible thing in my book, since I'm not looking to change the presentation of the source material in a big way.

Any and all advices appreciated in advance.
>>
>>108839358
since you are ordering from amazon you can return if you don't like. give em a shot, pretty good. i don't love the shell fit, but maybe it works fine for your ears. at the level of iems like kato and horizon, i suggest a dongle more in the $40-$80 range over $10 ones.
maybe even a bt dac or pmp, which almost always also work as usb dacs.

I'm not looking to spend a ton, is picrel any good? I'd also have to spend another $10 on a USB-C splitter to plug this thing into if I want to charge my phone simultaneously. I suppose I can return if it doesn't suit me, but any and all advice is welcome.

I have a pair of DT1990 pros and want to try out IEMs, What price range should I consider when looking to outperform or at least match the performance of my current headphones? Usage would be just gaming, I have been looking at the r/iems guide and I like the look of Sigmot supermix 4 and Arete II, any other guides to look at?

Have not seen a headphone general in a while so I'll post here.
My HD555's finally kicked the bucket after 16 years of service so I'm looking for a replacement.

>Budget
$1000AUD
>Intended use (media, source, environment)
Movie watching, Gaming including RockSmith, General PC audio
>Frequency response preference and music examples
I was generally happy with the 555s, I could possibly go for a better bass response.
>Past gear and your thoughts on them
555's with Focusrite Audio interface - Audio was OK, loved the comfort and open sound,
Sony XM4's, Audio is fine, Normal use it in the office and outside. While the 555s are out I'm also using it on my PC and I'm finding the audio a bit tinny with the ANC off and a bit oppressive with ANC on.
Jabra Elite 7 Pro, basically only use in bed for white noise.

File: fh3 vs explorer.png (377 KB, 2400x1038)

I love how the Explorer is basically a refined version of the FH3
>similar overall tonality, relaxed low-gain V
>no "cat ears" around the pinna gain, making layering more coherent
>no masker peak at ~12k
>a tad less midbass for cleaner sound, doesn't take away the warmth, doesn't have to balance out the treble due to its smoothness
>less wonky ~1.5k
>still has all the hallmarks that make the music sound fun: subbass focus, 1-2k bump for body and texture, ~7k bump for excitement
for me it's a worthy upgrade
>>
>still chilling with my Final Audio E3000 6 years later

Never had IEMs before but got a pair of Truthear Pures along with an M21 last week and holy shit they're good. I could potentially be in the market for something with a similarly warm sound profile but with better clarity, maybe something planar. What options are out there? Let's say budget is $200-300.
>>
>>108844137
>warm but with better clarity
you probably want a mild V-shape tuning
>>
>>108843683
Truthear Pure if you like warmth, but the E3000 comfort is hard to beat.

I need a new pair, what's the flavour of the month?
Don't really care for the sound signature, I just want them to be clear.
I've previously owned Aria 2, Aria 2 Snow and the Simgot EW300 based on recommendations here (I'm sure there's been others too). I liked most, but the EW300 is a bit tinny.

lots of options really, especially if you don't mind used headphones
>dark
audeze lcd2/x/ (planars, eq well)
>hd 800 used
best imaging and soundstage headphone still around(everything else in debate is either significantly more or out of production like k1k's) it has a 6k peak but you can eq it or mod it, essentially a speaker sounding headphone so it's very nice for movies and such, but it won't have the bass impact that planars have even eq'd
>Dan clark aeon RT/flow open (new/used)
extremely solid build, very comfortable, nice bass and probably better without eq than audeze unless you are really just a pure bass head, can be a bit bright but they come with filters to help that, or you can eq it. Titanium/nickel headband thats bendy, pads are decent enough, might peel sooner than real leather like audeze's but overall a very good headphone, treble can be a little problematic though
> hd 600/650, cheaper
still argueably the king of all longevity, especially for it's price. Bass is rather muddy and poor and it's more of a mid range headphone if anything but you won't get ear raped by too much treble or rip them off your head like some other V shaped headphones in it's price range. Imo i'd get any of the above before it unless you specifically want to spend a lot less

>nice but loads of qc problems and other known issues

BA etymodicks generally have smoother treble and less bass, while DD etymodicks have more bass with decent physicality and more sparkly treble, not exactly harsh or peaky but it's timbred which can be a pro or a con, personally I like it
