I swear my VP of engineering is quite honestly the stupidest person I have ever met. He has failed upward every step in his career and its seriously fascinating to watch.
We have a highly technical, highly complex proprietary system that basically prints money for the company. Its the golden goose. For no reason at all he starts injecting his own opinions to the operating mechanics of the system. He wants a total rewrite of a section based on a complete misunderstanding on his part. When we explained it wouldn't work, and here's why, the guy doubles down and starts screaming at the engineers who committed the cardinal sin of daring to disagree based on facts and years of experience. So.. he's the boss.. we are going forward with this idiotic plan, which absolutely will harm this patented, one of a kind system which has been running like clockwork and making tons of money for years

Third year ECE student, one small PLC company gave me an offer in april and canceled on me, and told me to check back mid June to see if he has anything I could do. Just a recent anecdotal point: I've been hiring for a pretty difficult position. I interview a guy who claims to be a very high performer and is looking to jump ship because he's no longer advancing at work, since they're moving into a different company phase and they want maintenance over new development. So far so good. He seems to know his stuff. I do reference checks and it turns out an old connection as we discuss a totally different subject coincidentally tells me he's been talking to this guy. He goes on to describe exactly the guy I'm interviewing but he doesn't remember the guy's name. He goes on to explain how the guy is incompetent and has been jumping from job to job when people figured that out a few times. He shows me proof. We compared note and confirmed it's the same person and not a big coincidence.
These are the people who gloat about being high performers.

Back in the 80's companies learned to leverage psychology in dealing with their workers. They looked at all the studies on human behavior, then changed their operating policies to take full advantage of what they found. People are hesitant to go look for a new job due to all the work involved as long as they FEEL they are being paid well? Give em a quarter an hour raise and tell them the company is doing poorly but they're still getting paid more than this other employee so this is a GOOD thing!

I had 3 years of industry exp including FAGMAN exp., and I now have 5. Nobody will pay you to do a PhD by the way. They're supposed to (especially the FAGMAN I worked at specifically advertised this and specifically told me they'd pay for my PhD, but that was all bullshit). Mine was thankfully funded.
It's impossible to do a PhD while working also. No lab worth even a fraction of anything is going to accept this. Most top labs will also typically demand you do not take internships or side work while you do the PhD (but that can vary more, and it's only uncommon rather than unheard of for a PhD student to also take on consultant work typically for a VC firm).
C-suites with PhDs are very rare, and those who do typically are in deep tech kind of companies. They virtually always started the company as a university spinoff, either with them being profs and the (now former) students driving the company (so co-founder in name only), or vice versa (obviously).
Once you graduate and you're out of academia, you can't use that path anymore (even having an official collab with a prof isn't going to cut it), and you lose pretty much 100% of opportunities related to entrepreneurship outside software because VCs are retarded like that.
Other than that, while a PhD may be a requirement for a leadership position that is VP or equivalent, it is never sufficient and the bar is typically around 20 years of exp in the specific domain (but as the market hasn't allowed this for a while, shit's fucked).
