>>
>>109051867
It is because other countries have similar laws now and they DO require it at the operating system level. They are taking the path of least resistance because implementing this in a million different ways will result in a huge matrix that needs to be tested under different combinations.
>Essentially the most authoritarian state will decide the norm for them all
>>
>>109051883
And yes, in case you were wondering which country that is it is the freedom thumping, flag waving, eagle screeching country.

You can thank Facebook for that.
The UK only wanted online services to have age verification. Facebook went "Hang on a minute, we don't want to deal with that because if we get it wrong we'll be fined. Can this not be done at the device / OS level?" and so they lobbied US states.

I'm looking to get a new phone but with some power as I need to multitask, being able to have probably 2 map apps open and view logs from a Bluetooth serial device. >>
>>109052551
That's just Europe's Chat control they stole and renamed. It's nothing to do with ID verification at all.

The idea is that the phone will scan for images of child pornography on-device and prevent them from being sent to a pedophile. This is incredibly fucking retarded and really flawed and has the potential to prevent images from being sent to parents or medical staff, etc, but that's the idea.

They think magic on-device AI will stop all the pedos.

Yes, I'm sure restrictions on video games is the same as locking features of the OS behind ID verification. Keep coping.
It's possible to use Android without ever needing Google Play at all. That could change in the future though:
https://keepandroidopen.org/
>>
>>109053226

There are real alternatives based on Android because it's still an open platform. It's the Play Services that are bad. Unfortunately, a LOT of apps depend on it.

This is fake news. It's only for websites that pick the strictest settings available. They're not retiring the old reCAPTCHA.

Of course Google can't trust a non-pozzed OS. You can just buy a cheap shitty burner phone and use that to scan and it'll pass all of the tests no problem though. This push for hardware attestation is ridiculous and will solve nothing.

incorrect stop covering for companies that have nothing to do with you. they’ve been caught swapping out hardware from the models that they sent to influencers versus the ones that they sell in stores as well as software tweaks that overclock the CPU during testing. 3dMark removed the rm11 pro for fake results.

Android is made by Google who make Pixels which were never removed or caught cheating benchmark testing or swapping parts out for devices sent to influencers versus ones sold on the retail level. Companies owned by Chin*SE were removed after being caught for software tweaks and swapping hardware out that results in a influencer showing off results a retial model can not reproduce. Coming from a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G, I need a modern phone for security updates and extra storage capacity.
I want a good camera, good build quality, and the least amount of spyware possible.
Thinking about getting the latest flagship Pixel, but I've never owned a Google device before, and Samsung has been decent so far.
My mind immediately went to the latest Samsung as my default choice, but the AI integration seems extremely deep and I don't want my entire filesystem and OS interaction being datamined and sent off for analysis. I know that the Pixel also has built-in AI, but Samsung's seems more ubiquitous in everything.
I also love having the ability to flash custom ROMs onto the Pixel, and am strongly considering it since I can use GrapheneOS which seems awesome.
However, I'm traveling internationally to Japan for a few weeks soon, so I need to make sure the device is reliable and won't make me fiddle with permissions and niche settings every 15 minutes and risk missing a train or something retarded.

Any opinions on Pixel vs. Galaxy, and/or experiences with GrapheneOS?

So I had recently purchased a Xperia 1 VI on ebay. Loved the phone for the short time I used it. Unfortunately I ended up having to return it, as it was an obvious refurbished/reproduction. However the kicker was, for some reason when I had connected it to my desktop it triggered DNS issues on my computer, that forced me to soft reinstall the Windows 10. After the experience I don't think I'll ever risk buying a phone from a third party seller despite any good review they have.

Now having handled a modern Xperia I don't think I can go back to Samsung again. Since I'm living in the US and to avoid sketchy sellers my only option is the Xperia 1 VIII, however I have some questions which I'm not sure if any anons can help with.

1. WIll Pixel IMS work on the VIII?
2. Is Wonda Mobile the most reputable seller for buying an Xperia in the US, or is there somewhere better?
3. The bands for the VIII look near identical to the VI/VII, is the 5G connection that bad in the US?

Regarding the 3rd question, I was using the VI on 4G LTE unlocked with Shizuku/Pixel IMS, and had a perfect connection so I never really bothered trying 5G out. I'm just trying to future proof and won't like to get 5+years out of the phone.

I'm on US Mobile. I think they offer phones but I just buy whole price and unlocked anyways. $15/month for 5gigs, ultra wideband Verizon towers. You can choose to use other carrier towers if you want. When I was on VZW, it grew from $20 to $30 a month with just 5g, no UWB. The speed difference is noticeable.
I'm getting better service as a not-Verizon customer than when I was an actual Verizon customer.

>There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance... Right now we're selling millions and millions and millions of Windows Mobile phones a year. Apple is selling 0 phones a year...

crapple only sold that much because of first mover advantage and worked on brand cultism to attain status as a fashion icon
>nokia, the only noteworthy competitor, was sabotaged and decimated by microjeet at every turn, stopping them from growing
>other OEMs were pieces of shit with their own personal OSes with inconsistent experiences full of cruft (e.g. wi-fi and bluetooth barely worked, airplane mode was a rarity). not to mention software support was shit (basically no 3rd party software)
>crapple had amassed a huge install base with iTunes and iOS was the first one to launch a general appstore (no more paying $2 for an MP3 on your carrier's WAP portal)
>iOS was the first one to get a more or less decent mobile browser going
in the end microjeet is to blame as always

Microsoft dropped the ball when they had no answer to the App Store. Everyone was making apps for the iPhone and nobody wanted to make Windows Mobile apps.

more like windows users HATE appstores and prefer downloading their EXEs from the developer's site without some megacorporaiton in the middle telling you what you can and can't do
>>
>>109063328
if that were true windows mobile os and windows phone would still be here bud
>>
>>109063328
On the PC, yeah, but on mobiles it's the complete opposite. Funny that. I may be wrong, but I think for a while there wasn't even a YouTube app or Google Maps app, etc, for Windows Mobile. The "metro" version which was trying to compete, to be clear. I know the original Windows Mobile wouldn't have had these things (the original Windows Mobile that Balmer was talking about was designed for PDAs. They never ever imagined a device like the iPhone).

Not with Steam. Tons of Steam fanboys who worship Gabe.

I had a 2 HTC windows mobile phones (P3600 and one with a slide out keyboard) that was exactly how you explained, it was designed to be used with a plastic stylus and felt like a palm pilot. it was so bad tbqh.

Steam is just a games launcher that happens to have a storefront built in to it.

It won by being less shit than everyone else.

It's also a web app that takes gigabytes of RAM.

you have a campaign with millions upon millions of supporters against jewgle's locking down android and forcing devs to dox themselves to keep developing software: keepandroidopen.org
>>109063378
I'm pretty sure steam doesn't stop you from doing any of the following
>running software from other vendors, storefronts, or publishers
>running unsigned software
>running cracked software
>using your computer without a steam account
I hate steam and its gay account requirement DRM btw

I wonder why microsoft is doing so bad! I wonder who is running them into the ground...
>>
>>109063404
But it's still less shit than all their competitors business practices. Steam could use gigabytes more and people would still use it for the convenience of having all your games in one place.

Perhaps the only thing better than it is GOG.

it's called my hard drive

The answer is always the same. Microsoft did that.
It's almost like they don't want to win at anything. I keep hearing they've trashed the Surface brand now too.

>>109063476
nuh uh that isn't who is running them into the ground. we all know who and why!

Holy fuck gesture nav is a humiliation ritual.

Are you in your 80s?
Even my 73 year old friend can figure out gestures.

whats the best way to securely store sensitive docs like IDs/etc on your phone in case I need to pull it up when out and about; hit me with the schizo option first and then the normie option.
