I really loved the XB HAF EVO, but it ended up being too small when it was time to upgrade. Then someone told me about the Core X9, which was not a bad option except it's long since sold out and their drivebay placement wasn't ideal (and I don't give a shit about dual system).
Is there a server/workstation form-factor case that might do the same thing? Horizonal motherboard tray, vertically-separated dual-chamber, and ideally the bottom half of the front panel is all 5.25 bays that can be converted into 3.5/2.5 backpane slots?

the problem with that mobo orientation is that every single CPU cooler has heatsink fins that are designed for a desktop PC.
So you will have more dust collecting inside the fins due to gravity (as well as ontop your mobo).
But people buy overbuilt coolers for their CPU's, so you should be fine even if it was caked up a tiny bit over a decade.
The GPU is usually louder than the CPU, and it would matter more about the fin orientation. Even if you had a GPU that had allowed dust out using gravity, the fins are longer in one axis, so it's still more ideal to have a normal PC case orientation for dust.
For actual temperature, it doesn't matter as long as there is no dust, so if you just remove dust like every year instead of never, you are fine. The orientation does matter a bit if you had a low power CPU + fanless cooler, since the heat pipes need gravity to assist.

That's true but irrelevant, my coolers are always overkill, I dust regularly, and noise hasn't been a significant factor in over 10 years. Plus that's all besides the point, I prefer the horizontal dual-chamber layout.
I want to have plentiful hotswap/backplane bays without sacrificing frontal intakes. Consumer cases cheap out on the former, server cases forgo the latter.
At this point I'm considering just having one of those shops custom-manufacture one for me.

Most monitors have the ability to do color calibration through the HDMI/DP cable.
So you just type "Calibrate display color" in windows, and it should start working.
I have never used this, I just press the buttons on the monitor (the fancy name is "OCR menu").
I believe the windows color calibration tool is reviewed poorly, but if it works, that means that you can use another tool, I believe you can use a phone app, to use the camera to do the calibration (BUT I have never done this so I can't suggest anything).
There are monitors that don't have this calibration feature support, like I know that the xiaomi miniled doesn't.

This is for a friend and I think he'd benefit from a good 1440p monitor for viewing his photographs. He only has 256 GB of media and probably won't exceed 512 GB in the next few years. Having the option to pop in a cheap GPU in the next few years would be nice but not a must-have. He'll probably need a AMP/DAC sound card for music playback and has the speakers already covered. Form factor is not a concern but he'd prefer a case that isn't butt ugly.

It's stupid as fuck but it's cheap and it's expandable enough.

minisforum is a bit better respected than a real no-name chinesium brand, and they do good work. That mobo is a *laptop* cpu, put on an itx board with all the standard pc hardware around it, and it Just Werks.
>>
>>109228899
Would I be paying a premium for the ITX form factor? It can be a bigger full-size unit if that's cheaper and easier to work on.

>>109228952
In this specific case, no, not really. If you were using separate parts, it would probably be moderately more expensive, but everything here is inexpensive. Although if you've got a microcenter nearby, you should see if you can get one of their mobo/cpu/ram bundles for a comparable price, because that will be more upgradable.

I also posted earlier about my PC frying itself and thought it was the RAM at first. Turns out that it was my 9800x3d that killed itself and thankfully didn't take anything else with it. It just died while I was browsing /v/. My warranty was one month away from expiry so I got very lucky there.

Finally got the new cooler (peerless assassin 120se) installed so I could move my 4070S to the top slot of my gigabyte 850 Eagle and whew, what a difference the extra data lanes make. Obvious, but it feels different when you actually see it in real time as I've never had to use any other slot in the past. I'd been running it in the lower x1 slot for half a week and it was quite an experience.
Some games were mostly unaffected in the average fps (though the amount of stuttering massively increased), some were completely wrecked. Playing a youtube video while simultaneously playing any game would drop my FPS by at least 40% and also introduce constant stutters and inconsistent frame timing. I could see visible tearing and stuttering while just scrolling down a webpage like these threads.
Of note, Girls Frontline 2 Exilium (gacha slop) saw an impressive decline from 130 fps average to a whopping 13 fps when any character models were on screen. I'm glad that's all over with now.
Thanks to the anons that pointed me away from the possible RAM culprit, I only realized afterwards that the old half-dead CPU still threw me DRAM errors when trying to post with no RAM inserted at all.
not very impressed with Gigabyte's UEFI or bios/boot time unfortunately

New numbers are in and they are brutal.

136 axed at id Software, programmers and QA decimated.

This is her first big mistake at Xbox.

I'm in favor of her other moves so far, her direct X involvement, her staffing cuts and studio closers.

This one is a miss, probably related to her lack of gaming experience. Id Tech was genuinely some of the best out there and could have benefitted the whole studio.

Palworld’s developers are chads, they have decided not to increase the game’s price after the 1.0 release, Palworld will stay at $29.99

The studio said it thought about raising the price for the full release, but decided against it because of the amazing support from players.

According to the developers, Palworld has become a much bigger success than they ever expected.
As a thank you to the community, they’re keeping the game at its current price.

>I am not, but thank you for the suggestion. He and I both want it to "just werk".
The other anon made a good pcpartpicker list that genuinely looks good, it's not a Frankenstein project because minisforum actually has a GUI for their bios.
You can't save that much money since it's already cheap, even for SFX.
I should brag a little bit that my ES 255h CPU is just as strong for gaming and CPU power. You save $300+ assuming you find a used 16gb ddr5 stick for $100.
BUT the BD895i SE is way better since ALL the pcie/m.2 slots are gen 5.
I did not notice the intel PC has a x16 slot with gen 3.0 x8...
That bottleneck is so bad, it would be identical to using a mini PC and attaching a egpu using a spare gen 4 m.2 slot (Note many sub $500 mini-pc's with ram+ssd have a spare m.2 slot, But it's only for SATA which won't work with nvmes).
This is the EGPU adapter if you were curious with getting a mini pc:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003286140773.html
Note that the intel mobo would fit into the itx case (it's 17.5mm wide, a bit larger than ITX), since the Jonsbo C6-ITX technically has 20cm of space for the motherboard (the horizontal size of the case is 26.5cm, the SFX PSU uses 65mm).

As far I remember benchmarks, some games really have huge gains because of extra l3 cache it's really with.
But this only applies for games with graphics-wise stff. Anything related to computations is not worth it.

Well that Intel GPU wouldn't be powerful enough to do dedicated PhysX compared to just letting the 5080 do it. What I mean is I also have a 3070 Ti. In a different potential build, I can't use the 5080 as a main and then offload RTX to it, can I?

All three have been “poached” three times in the last 18 months because the demand for electricians is crazy high.

ROWE: “I was in Plano, Texas… got a tour of a data center.”

“I ran into three electricians, all under 30, all making north of 240 grand a year, all debt-free.”

“Now here’s the craziest part. All three had been poached three times in the prior 18 months.”

“The shortages are so acute that the companies don’t have time to train. They have to poach.”

“Great news for an electrician. But it’s a little weird for the economy overall.”

Do I need to care what die the RAM uses? I'm looking at G.Skill Trident Z5 Royal Neo DDR5-6000 CL30 2x32GB and it looks good but does the die matter for tuning those tertiary timings?
>>
I got an issue with my PC it's a prebuilt I bought back in november of last year.
>prebuilt
Yeah well it actually increased in value thanks to a 1TB SSD and 2x16GB DDR5 ram @5600MHz so whatever.
One of the case fans (the bottom one) runs way slower than the top one, even if I got into the setting it is capped at around 1300 RPM while the top one runs at almost 3k
I don't know if this was an issue when I got it or if it started later since I keep all the RGB shit on but today I turned RGB on after dusting it and noticed the fan was running noticeably slower
Any idea what could be causing this? I obviously don't know shit about PC building
>>
>>109231532
32gb sticks have a very minor benefit in memory performance from its 2nd rank of memory compared to 16gb sticks. the cpu will be able to address the 2nd rank on the memory stick independently from the first and this shows up as the tRDRDSD and tWRWRSD timings. However, if you're looking to minmax fps, 2x16gb will be 99.9% as fast and do just fine.

if on ryzen, you'll want to find a 6000 cl30-36-36 kit that contains sk hynix a-die since that's the one that can run the tightest secondary and tertiary timings. all kits of that spec are hynix a-die while 30-38-38 and 30-40-40 can either be hynix m-die or hynix a-die.

also note that although quite rare, there are 2x16gb kits that are dual rank (containing 16 memory chips per stick) and it comes with the same benefit of having the 2nd rank but it also has the downside of not being able to be clocked higher than 6800-7200mhz because of overloading the memory controller.

I bought an MSI Aegis and the power supply shit out on me. It was 750W so today I bought an 850W one and installed it the best I could as someone who doesn't know much.

The problem is this: usually the case fans will kick on when I start it up as well as the LEDs. Neither does anything anymore and my CPU is idling at 60c and the fan is louder than ever. I don't think I can play games like this. It may be relevant that I

What I'm looking at is a 64GB (2x32) kit at 6000Mhz with a CL30-36-36-96 timing at 1.40V. The only information the Amazon AI had was that some specs said it used M-die but couldn't confirm for sure. This specific series has all kinds of specs, up and down the hierarchy so maybe it's pulling from an inferior spec of Royal Neos.

its just AI being retarded
hynix 16gbit m-die was the original ram chip they launched in late 2021 and was slowly phased out from 2022 by the die shrunk 16gbit a-die
however, there are the odd 30-40-40 kits here and there that still comes with m-die but they're pretty rare. one way to know for sure which die it comes with is to check the ram sticker in person which should show a batch code that ends in "821A" (e.g. 0T48KRS821A)

SCOOP(s):

- GPT-5.6 will be the final model in the 5.x series. GPT-6 is slated to launch in about a month, earlier than expected, and possibly even later this month
- GPT-6 will be based on a new, significantly larger pretrain (versus the ~4T 5.5/5.6 'Spud' base)
- There is lots of excitement at OpenAI over this new base, which they believe will be much better able to compete with both Fable 5 and upcoming 5.1, targeting a similar release window. OpenAI initially intended to continue with Spud through GPT-6, but decided against it
- On the topic of Fable 5.1, it is in the late stages of the pipeline at Anthropic and a release is expected "in the coming weeks"
- On the other side of the globe, DeepSeek are preparing for an imminent launch of V4 GA, which seems likely to be on par with or better than GLM-5.2, and have begun work on a new, larger model that will compete with the upcoming 2.7T MiniMax Pro

More reports why Sony is trying to end physical discs:

- They want to cut out the middle man, to make more profit per sale (like remove walmart cuts etc)
- Sony thinks the fanbase will not switch platforms, they can do what they please without losing fans
- They are convinced by ignoring this issue, they fans will just accept the changes and convert to 100% digital with time.
- Sony thinks they are "too big to have commination with fans". Talking to fans has no margin benefit, so they refuse to address fans and will keep doing so

I have lost all trust and goodwill with PlayStation, no words what is happening right now. Horrible company

Realistically, can the 9995 (or at least the 9985) be air cooled without sounding like a jet engine?

The actual reason is shareholder supremacy, and the endless need to post "growth". A business continuing to make the same amount of money, even if it's a trillion dollars in revenue per year, is a failure state, because the number isn't going up.

That looks like a cool product but it's not just potential pump failure that's turned me away from watercooling. I've had leaks from brand new expensive AIOs and while I accept that I was just unlucky, I won't try that again.
>limit the chip to stock
I know, I know, but it would be quite sad to spend that much on a CPU and not let it stretch its legs a little.
>>
I hate that my CPU runs at the same temps with 1600 RPM fans as it does with 3000 RPM fans.

I realize now that the bottle neck here isn't the AIO fans, but how fast heat can pass through the IHS on the 9850X3D.
>>
>>109231156
I think there are a bunch of youtube videos showing that noctua is worse than other cheap brands when it comes to cooling and noise in radiator fans, and that noctua is very quiet at it's maximum RPM blowing air, but the radiators are different than case fans and CPU coolers, because it needs air pressure and it is a different metric or something.

I still don't understand what the point of that thing is. "Here's a liquid-cooler but it's air-cooled and takes a shit ton of space up in the case."

Why not just get a full AIO loop? Speaking of which I think I'm just going to get an Arctic AIO and then use that to get the PC I'm building running, then I'll return it when Noctua is finally ready to ship me the AIO they promised me 3000 years ago.

NVIDIA has lost it

One engineer from New Zealand built the free version of GeForce NOW with no cap and subscriptions.

It's called Steam-Headless, a docker container that turns your own PC into a personal cloud gaming server.

NVIDIA, AMD & Intel supported
Moonlight + Steam Link + noVNC
Heroic, Lutris, EmuDeck built-in
Runs on any box you already own

here's the wildest part:

put one 4090 in a closet. spin up four containers. every kid in the house has a gaming PC. no dual boot. no gaming laptop. no $240/year GeForce Now.

4.1k stars. GPL-2.0. 100% open source

Getting back into PC gaming for the first time in over a decade. Do people still overclock in 2026?
>>
>>109232600
no its underclock all the way for cpus and gpus

I guess memory timings, gpu vram and ddr5 ram are oc'd or optimized by more people
>>
>>109232600
Not really, at least not to the extent it used to be done in the past. Make sure you've got XMP / EXPO or whatever enabled so your RAM runs at the correct speed. Beyond that I have a bit of undervolt on my CPU since this reduces power consumption, thus making it boost a little more and actually improves performance. On my GPU I have a little OC, but it's within the stock power limit so it's quite small. The days when you'd OC your CPU to 50% higher clock or such are long gone and any tweaks you do will only be minor anyway.

overclocking no longer see's the results it used to. now it's all about optimizing for the clocks you do get. Less power for the same performance is the meta now.
>>
>>109232600
that depends on the model. stuff that's already OC'd to hell out of the factory like the 9070xt or 9850x3d are better undervolted while components that have a lot of headroom like the 5070ti or ddr5 expo ram can see a lot of benefit from overclocking

If you have an AV Receiver (AVR) with multiple complex components, CEC can sometimes struggle to route signals correctly, causing devices to randomly power on or change inputs. If you are experiencing frustration or living room confusion, some users completely disable the feature and opt for universal remotes instead.

No it does not make hibernation any faster.
What it does is replace normal shut down behaviour with all user logout + hibernation of leftover kernel space.
So any kernel or driver updates, as well as group policies and registry tweaks that require full reboot cannot apply properly, which sometimes leads to version or settings inconsistencies on next user login.
That's on top of "normal" issues caused by hibernation and dual boot / ntfs recovery, hardware upgrades etc.

Also, clean your case.

I only like the aesthetic, i always thought the anime was just 2deep4u and bad. I didn't wanna put gunpla in the case but wanted some decoration in it regardless
and yea dust loves to sit on that glass and be very visible because of the white pc meme

it covers *some* fan area but not much honestly, it's a 3090 and it still maxes out around 72c in the summer
of course that's undervolted, it can get to like 78 on max load, but who the fuck can run a 410W card in this economy (a 100W bump for a boost of literally 3 fps)
I do need to repaste + pad it sometime

I always disabled quick boot because in some of my old computers it wouldn't recognize RAM correctly, like late 90's computers, and it was fun watching the number count up while booting the computer because I was a kid.
there's a windows setting buried somewhere for quick boot too now which I went and disabled also.
>>
>>109234818
3090s are worth so much now that I can trade one for a 5080 but I'm not gonna do that because of the melty connector

Why the fuck aren't Minileds coming to Yurop??

yeah 24gb vram at 936gb/s is crazy good for LLMs so they hold their value well

Nvidia drivers are broken on Windows 10, 11, Linux, & FreeBSD

By your retarded logic, doesn't matter how long you wait to upgrade, because whenever you do, the next generation will always be better and therefore you'll feel robbed. Additionally, graphics cards don't age like milk. The 3090 can still play all games well. Obviously it's not a good PT card, but you don't have to play games with PT enabled or you can just wait to play PT games until you get a good enough card (which you would be doing anyway with your four generation upgrade strat)

Having said all that, the best time to buy is at the start of a new generation.

the improvements being big gen over gen mean you shouldn't be trying to chase, buying a 80 series card every 4 gens and getting the most out of it and not following hardware news would be better

is there a reason why framegen gives me eyestrain and blurred vision? It looks really good but for some reason my eyes don't like it.
and I am using it with base 60 or 120 fps games already so there's no artifacts or weird stuff going on with it visually so idk why it's hurting my eyes like this

how much were 1tb basic bitch sata ssd drives before the whole AI craze?
it's absurd seeing random no name budget ssd brands going for $150 per tb
not even nvme or m.2, just basic sata
>>
>>109235198
8TB once dipped to $250 back before all the floods and supply chain interruptions and whatever else spooky stories they invented before AI.
was probably the lowest price per tb ever for new SSDs with any warranty at all.
1TB price does not scale linearly but should have been ~$50 back then.

the hidden enemy of framegen is high dpc/isr.
the solution is to reduce it. microsoft/latencymon gives you hints and tools to deal with it.

Was digging through some old stuff and found a copy of my old windows 98 key. Kind of want to try and install it on my new PC.

how do I do this with lossless scaling?

try disabling core0 for the game and putting lossless scaling thread affinity to below normal

Yes people overclock more than ever because it is now automatically done by the CPU.

actually think rdna5 might unironically flip everything towards amd, nvidia is obviously thinking about AI most of the time, lots of money there to make
amd is going to have microsoft, sony and valve working for them essenstially, drivers on windows, linux, performance tailored for the rdna5 architecture in the consoles
everything points towards amd becoming the gaming king next year and onwards
>>
>>109235976
I might consider switching to AMD with rdna5 if they can beat a 6090
>>
>>109234818
of course, its jewvidias last white gpu

it won't work unless someone made a driver somehow, but you might be able to install it into PCem or 86box on linux / windows.
the nice part of PCem/86box is that it lets you emulate various midi cards, and gpus, and you might be able to use the CD to install it. It has a whole bios and everything.
But if you want to save yourself a lot of headache, you should just download the OEM cd, because I believe non-OEM 98 cd's require a boot floppy (I think you need a dos floppy .img? I did this with a Japanese dos-v image since I couldn't find an OEM version).

that would be great, if consoles actually sold well.
To me, all the headlines are making me believe that the next generation of consoles are going to release at $1000. OR it's not a real upgrade (AKA, $600, but it's 40% weaker than the PS5 pro, but then we get a ps6 pro that's a tiny bit stronger but it's $1000).
And unfortunately, nintendo picked nvidia, and we all know that nintendo is the only console that has never ported it's 1st party games to PC (the Switch 2 is still struggling to grow, obviously the price tag of the switch 2 isn't helping, they need to make a console for the low end market, since parents are split between buying a console that costs a subscription, or an ipad mini).
Intel + Nvidia would make an interesting APU I think. Will it be only be for AI? Or will it be a handheld/gaming laptop centric APU?
>>
>>109236329
they'll try to make next gen consoles as cheap as possible which means recycle as much as possible and ditch anything "unnecessary". the blue ray drive for PS5 pro is $80 so I'm not surprised that they go now "hurrdurr no physical anymore" when they have to keep the price as low as possible but it will still likely cost $1k even if they recycle memor, RAM and other things
