I like the look of the 20th edition stuff, just because it looks like how I imagined future computers to look when I was 13.
But ain't nobody affording that shit.

i watched a clip of digital foundry and these retards said the ps6 is in the rtx5090 range in performance what are your thoughts on this i laugh every time i think back to that clip personally there is no way that shit will cost less than 1000 and do the performance of a 5090 that costs x4 that for the card alone

the visible cable on the GPU ruins it a bit. The GPU being fixed from both sides so it cannot sag is a nice idea but obviously only works when the parts are made for each other.

Lmao, no fucking way.
The PS6 will probably be around a 9060 XT but make heavier use of upscaling via whatever AMD is releasing to compete with DLSS 5.

you need the 8th because if you don’t and you try to put a double slot gpu in the bottom pcie slot the psu blocks it from being installed. trying to install a secondary card to get more vram to run better models. but my r4 is so fucking old i can’t.

lies.

The only nvidia you should buy is 5080+. at 5070, it's a toss-up, people argue. at 5060, it's very silly, you can, but silly.

The 5060 just isn't as nice as the 3060 was, it's unworthy of the name - in its generational placement.

There are two 5xxx series cards that matter, the 5080, and the 5090.

turns out the mobo I have now is a H310M-DGS which apparently only supports intel processors, with my current one being an i5-8400.
is that more reason to upgrade everything at once or should I still look to DDR4 compatible intel processors for an upgrade? I have 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM currently so it'd definitely be a shame to have to replace that.

>Lower end specs, has to a mini PC that can be mounted behind or tucked underneath a monitor like pic related or those little square ones that seem to get pushed a lot these days
>W10/11 is a requirement
I made the move to Linux last month. I've enjoyed it thus far, but I am finding certain limitations and issues with using Wine/Proton for compatibility. Instead of setting up a dual boot I'd like to use a second computer that I can tag in with a KVM to handle the things I can't get running on Linux. A laptop is out of the question, my belief is that a mini PC would be more suitable to my specific needs.
I especially want it for MS office. In my experience, the alternatives always wind up with formatting issues when trying to work with files native to MS, which is a major problem if you're sharing it with a group of people and they're all using MS.
Doesn't need any real gaming capabilities, I may use it for old stuff like dosbox or GoG releases if Linux is being finicky, but really it only needs to be powerful enough to handle MS office, internet browsing, FTP into my Linux PC to transfer files, and other lightweight tasks that don't require a lot of resources.
I've been shopping around all day but I'm just not familiar with buying these things compared to regular desktop stuff. I'm also worried about buying something fishy since it's technically a prebuilt. I know it's a bit unorthodox for this general, but I would like some advice if any of you has experience with these things.

What's the situation with mice these days?
My boy (pictured) has been shutting off at random while gaming for a while and it's fucking me over in a lot of situations because I have to stand up and reach behind tower, unplug it from the port, and plug it back in to fix that. And then it does it again either minutes later or weeks later, there's no consistency. Today it was 8 times in one hour, but last occurred in July.
Anyway, I guess it's not a driver issue but something going on with the electronics, so I'm in the market for a mouse again. God damnit.

I watched the same clip and tehy didn't say that, they said that the 5090 is the only card guaranteed to run games better than the upcoming consoles. The argument was that if the consoles had 30gb+ of unified RAM then cards with less than 24gb of vram would probably run into problems running some of the games. They even mentioned that if the SUPERS were out then anything 5070 and up would be good.

I've got two brand spanking new 24tb hard drives setup in a raid configuration on my nas currently but it's really bothering me that I could have 48tb of storage as opposed to only 24tb of space.

In reality it's pretty simple. Depression and negative mood have an effect on the perception of colors. AMD guys are often so doped up on SSRIs and HRT that they don't feel normal emotion and therefore perceive color more vibrant.

halp i need advice. i'm upgrading my pc right now and ordered a bunch of parts but i'm realizing that i've made a mistake. so i'm a filmmaker and video editor and i do frequently edit and work with large files in the 4k range. so i was wanting a good SSD in the pc for central storage for all my files and something good to video edit with so i was going to get a nvme 5th gen 4tb SSD. now my mistake was ordering a SATA ssd to replace my boot drive, as my current boot drive is an 11 year old SATA ssd. i realized i should get a nvme drive to take advantage of my pc's capabilities right?

for context my motherboard i'm about to get is the MSI MPG Z890 CARBON WIFI. anyway, just wondering what should my ssd solution be? should i use a nvme 4th gen 500gb for my boot drive for games and other apps and then use a 5th gen nvme 4tb for my creative apps like video editing and photoshop and high fast storage? or just use the 4tb for everything? i'm just confused bc i keep seeing stuff on reddit of ppl saying 4.0 and 5.0 have no difference. i personally just want to be able to edit and work with large files smooth as butter.

i don't have an nvidia gpu anymore but even my 4070 would do this on my 3440x1440 ultra wide. with my 9070xt it would default to the full range by default. i had to steal the picture because i don't use nvidia or windows anymore but linux has also the option in it's display settings and the picture look really bad when i set it to limited (it looks just like the 4070 on windows).

On the topic of cases what should I put in the 4" drive bay? The case I got has 4 of them and I was thinking of putting some kinda NAS or server like hot swappable drives in a RAID config. Any suggestions.

Picrel the case I bought for my 5090 AI build LD Cooling its massive and fit two PSUs. They used to do Phase change cooling (like Refrigeration) but it never caught on.

The memory controller is the in cpu anyways, if your bios is up to date auto-overclocking this to 3200mhz is as easy as getting it to run at xmp speeds.

in my locale the 5500 is around €90 while the 5600 is around €130, €40 is a big price delta difference at this point and then there's also competion from the 4500 (arguably a much worse chip) at €70 and the 5500x3d (arguably a much better one) at €150. Also if you're not looking to upgrade to a x3d chip on the AM5 platform, LGA1700 is roughly the same in price/performance but they much less stingy with pcie 4 support and some boards even support pcie 5.

>>109568913
The motherboard i/o bracket can be a bitch sometimes, it won't break but sometimes the tabs will bend akwardly. also cpu coolers can get bent a little if you fuck around with the orientation to match the orientation of your case and want to change the fan orientation for some reason.

Your PC is going to start a little faster with nvme ssd it could maybe save 5 seconds off your boot time or something. You haven't talked about why you want a separate boot drive. In the olden days one of the main reasons to get a separate boot drive was because SSD storage was more expensive than HDD storage but the difference in boot times meant that it was efficient it to pair a small SSD with a larger HDD.

Another thing. My fan setup went from looking like this to this. Something else I noticed is that in my UEFI my case fans monitor the "system temperature" which doesn't go above 30 degrees under load so they're always running from 600-700 RPM. I set it to monitor the CPU and then all the fans ran faster and the CPU was running hotter. WTF? I'm thinking I must have screwed up the paste, I'll have to re-apply.

anything with a dedicated path for transferring audio samples is good, so HDA or PCIe
shared buses like USB are out, if you care about latency

Please for the love of god find a way to spend 170 more quid and get a 5070Ti.
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/pny-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070-ti-oc-16gb-gddr7-ray-tracing-graphics-card-8960-cores-tbc-boost

AMD prices in the UK are higher than they have any reason to be so, so the gap between the 5070Ti and 9070XT is smaller than other markets, and there's absolutely no reason not to get a 5070Ti over a 9070XT.

>PCIe sound cards are good
enduser sound cards are mediocre compared to a lot of USB DACs. Depending on your motherboards layout they can be worse than just using an USB slot that goes directly to your CPU. High end soundcards arent for your average ass gaming PC as they come with in- and outputs usually exclusively for studio audio gear.

Hello faglords
currently using a acer predator Orion 3000 P03 640 that came with a I5-12400F and 3060TI, upgraded it so it has 32gigs of DDR4 3200MHZ ram and a total of 8TB of storage
i'm looking to get a new pc case and switch to a AM4 motherboard since i heard AMD released the 5800X3D again. the reason as to why i want to remain on the AM4/Intel equivs is due of the 32giggies of ram in this current economy

Okay yeah for short i just wanna ship of theseus my pc
>>
>>109573173
>enduser sound cards are mediocre compared to a lot of USB DACs
sure, in terms of audio quality, but PCIe sound cards aren't adding 50ms of latency to compensate for USB packet scheduling, asynchronous clock domains, etc
depends on what you value more i suppose

I doubt it, but I wouldn't trust any company in the current era of computer hardware to not do all sorts of bullshit.

It's just not worth spending £170 less to miss out on DLSS, AI, better raster performance and non-gaming performance.
>>
>>109573247
on my board the second PCIe slot either leeches x8 gen 5 lanes from the primary slot or uses four gen 3 lanes to the second chipset. So I can either have the soundcard connected via both chipsets but no USB or USB directly to the CPU. Codec is connected to the second chipset via USB so it's the bad aspects of both. Of course this PC is for gaming, a real audio PC has other priorities.
>>
>>109573298
i agree USB is probably the best choice in your scenario
since realtek decided to be smart and downgrade their newest codecs to USB to save $0.02 per chip

What is a good value for money PC to play indie to AAA games on 1080p 120hz monitor? I know the market is not good at the moment. I have a normal ATX case which I think can fit most GPUs but my 650w gold PSU might need replacing if it can't run new cards. I don't upscale or use settings that give me fake frames or whatever. Budget is 4k€ Germany.

>upgrading your cpu every 4 years isn't consumerist
it is. a modern computer can easily last you 10 years. the only people who ought to upgrade their cpu that often are professionals who freelance. a jump from an althon apu to a ryzen changes what a pc can do, the jump from an earlier ryzen to a later one increases your clockspeeds. the more you buy the more you save.

>>109573212
You shitty pc probably has proprietary cables and connectors that only work with your Acer power supply and Acer motherboard and your case might not have the right standoff placements to properly mount a normal atx board. So I suggest you just go and have sex instead of dreaming of playing with your computer all day.

would it be effective then to use an nvme 4.0 500gb ssd as a boot drive for general applications and then a 5.0 4tb ssd for my video editing and storage? i wanted to keep them separate just in case of failure or anything. i just realize the 4.0 is gonna be slower, would it affect the 5.0 drive at all? what i’ll probably do is return my sata ssd and get the nvme as a boot drive. that’s what i’m leaning toward

you're paying an extra $50 or whatever to have a slightly slower cumputter. It's nice to have a separate drive for your OS that allows you to do a clean install every time you have a problem without it risking your other files but you can just compartmentalize your nvme drive. the way to safeguard your data against failure is by mirroring it on different drives.

these have retailed new for around 220 eurodollars paying 250 for a well maintained or sparsely used 3070 is still ok if on the higher end of what you should par for something like that. I see stuff like 2070 go for 150 sometimes and given how old it is it shouldn't sell for much more.
