Is that KM5 CP1 actually a good CD player? I’ve read that it can even scratch discs. Is it a company designed to lure in weaboos and scam customers into thinking they’re buying a cool-looking high-end Japanese product (the is Japanese in their website, sugoi!), when in reality it’s temu-tier chink shit of extreme poor quality, right? It makes sense that a hack like Kojima promotes it.

daybreaks have pretty solid QC because crin was very autistic about it. A bunch of problems that showed up on release got fixed pretty quickly. It has fully-filled resin shell meaning better structural integrity and longevity. It also comes with a good cable with interchangeable terminations and a decent selection of different ear tips.

>>
>>109729782

>>
What driver type "does JM-1 ear gain" properly?
>>
>>109730028
I think a better question would be, "what driver config executes JM-1 eargain the best?"
>>
>>109730235
I guess one well implemented DD whose natural acoustic response is shaped into JM-1 is the most straightforward setup. But a good hybrid implementation possibly could beat a single DD, provided the crossover is doing a good job.
>>
>>109730398
I'm sure people in this hobby could value clarification on what different driver types are actually best for across the frequency spectrum, since apparently 1DD isn't magic and 2DD is a meme.
If we're going to make those assumptions, I'd genuinely like to know what the supposed physical limitations are.
>>
just got my chu 3 lets see how they are. i know theres no fox techs but they can't be that bad, right?
>>
>>109730441
>I'm sure people in this hobby could value clarification on what different driver types are actually best for across the frequency spectrum, since apparently 1DD isn't magic and 2DD is a meme.
This will all depend on their responses and ease of tuning. For example, BAs feature the same types of sharp resonances as DDs but they can be used with dampers to remove those, hence their frequent use for high frequency shaping and tuning.
2DD isn't a meme if used properly in terms of tuning. Cadenza II achieves similar results to the Zero Red despite having 1DD.
>If we're going to make those assumptions, I'd genuinely like to know what the supposed physical limitations are.
It is hard to target specific frequency ranges, especially for incorporating peaks or dips. That's literally about it, they all operate with similar rules (constant SPL until driver resonance then drop off with modal behavior)
>>
DD treble doesn't extend super well. You can undershoot or overshoot your target but it's hard to get it just right. In general the main reason to use other driver types at all is to optimize upper mids/treble.
>>
>>109730574
>>109730611
Actually that's more along the lines of what I was trying to get at. So it sounds like the distinction is less "DD or 2DD can't do JM-1 ear gain" and more that different driver types have different engineering tradeoffs, which makes sense to me.
I was mainly questioning the idea that a 2DD is inherently incapable of executing the JM-1 shape properly, which in 2026, doesn't really seem to be an actual problem with current IEM engineering
>>
>>109730789
with EQ 1DD can follow JM-1 or any other target perfectly with 0 tradeoffs
>>
>>109731027
I'm not including EQ into the equation, I'm only outlining distinct driver types and what they specifically contribute to or constrain when achieving certain stock tunings.
>>
>>109730789
I think for current "JM-1" sets that use DDs in that range, they are damping the driver resonance and then using a very dense front mesh to reduce energy past 3kHz.
Most implementations of 2DD that aim for JM-1 instead target the relative dip in the bass region, which is hard to do with 1DD although not impossible (see Cadenza II, Singolo).
BAs come in all types of responses, so fine tuning that eargain region is relatively simpler.
>>
>>109731163
Implementation is the kind of angle I've been trying to include in this sort of discussion without giving a "quality driver" all the credit.
Implementation has always been an important factor.
Just like the Singolo you mentioned, Aful Magicone has a Helmholtz resonator, which is a 1BA IEM.
Some say the bass is ass, sounds "digital", etc, which makes this good ground to cover trying to understand how much implementation is simply a crutch for driver limitations and how much of it is an integral part of the whole system
>>
>>109731241
Right, but the reason why a lot of anons do not discuss such topics despite knowing and understanding them is because implementation simply does not matter for the end consumer.
It doesn't matter if implementation A or B was used, if the end result is the same, they sound the same. "Implementation" is often used very wrongly by insinuating that these implementations themselves have an inherent sound characteristic even if two different ones end up achieving the same thing.
I find it a particularly interesting topic but there is a gigantic difference in how it is used within actual engineering contexts/discussions vs average audiophile forums.

>>
>>109731488
>The audio cable can be attached on either the left or right side using the carefully angled and concealed 2.5 mm input jack with a locking collar mechanism. This allows convenient connections to source equipment no matter where it is located in your listening environment, and particularly useful in recording applications where one or both hands may be required for performance.

"Sometimes literal neutrality can interfere with identity by underexpressing a property that matters perceptually. Imagine photographing an enormous mountain with a perfectly rectilinear 50 mm lens from far away. The photograph might be geometrically faithful, yet fail completely to convey what standing underneath the mountain is like. A wider lens from close beneath it introduces perspective exaggeration—and could nevertheless be experientially more truthful."

thats pretty true. invest in scale and physicality

There's gotta be some tomfoolery or cheating going on here right? I went in thinking I was going to prefer hifiasmr's target. When I was presumably A/B'ing them both in the test I thought I was picking it too. What the fuck. Their EQ system is probably broken. Post yours, just curious.
>>
>>109738715 (me)
It is not clear how they EQ, for whoever develops the site, after the shootout the targets are clickable, it would be nice if those links went to the studio with whatever EQ was applied on top of the peripheral picked in the test. This makes the shootout more useful too. Since then one can try multiple targets and come out with what they preferred and the EQ to go along with it.

Why would I waste time picking between 5 dogshit choices, there's a personalized EQ option right there.
>>
>>109738815
Last I tried it personalized one uses a baseline target too and it only makes minor changes, a lot of what makes a target remains untouched. So "personalized" isn't as personalized as you think

I tried it two times in a row and got 5dB less treble than his baseline both times. And it wasn't as good as my own EQ. Clearly I'm not the target audience.

I recently had my as whole blown open by a pair of basic-bitch pair of CCA CRA IEMs I bought on Ali with a discount.
I did some digging and the next recommended step is something "hybrid" that combines a Dynamic Driver and a Balanced Armature?

I won't know if I like it until I try it so I'm not super worried about understanding the mee-nuu-tay. Please suggest what brands I should check out that have this "hybrid" tech.

Wired is great.

if u are not that autistic that u have to jerk off to perfect graphs of course.

Chinks and influencers are tricked u that what u hear isnt enough and next target or next model has to be next big thing that u have to buy
At times it feels like smartphone market for tech bros, or wireless tws and headphones - people are buying pretty much same shit in new package over and over but there at least are some measurable things like better soc, better camera or battery

Chinks tricked u with that mindset but for wired headphones and iems, u can easly buy set or 2 and use them for 10 years no problem, if sound is good now it will be good 10 years in the future.
But be sure they will come with few new fomo targets, meme drivers and other shit so autist like u can chase "perfect sound" paying them for next shilled shit. And that measurable difference is target that they made up and promoted based on made up science

autoEQ will not give you jm-1 because it doesn't take anatomy and unit variance into consideration
if jm-1 is supposed to be neutral in the first place then the only way is to EQ your L500 to be flat by ear
>>109755696
and? why are you even asking instead of autoEQing it to jm-1 then?
>>

I myself do that to my IEMs now. I use it as a starting point and just adjust high and low shelves to taste to where I feel comfortable using the final result across all my listening. that's just me though.

>>
>>109755905
>it's a population average of HRTFs, which is take most of the guesswork out of the equation enough to use as a baseline.
you see... the SPIRIT of JM-1 is meant to be neutral. It being a population average is just a way to somewhat achieve that. But to hear what it actually suppose to sound like you should EQ it to be neutral... That what it will sound like to a mythical popaverage (lol) person.
But even if you want to hear what it sounds like if you are not popaverage person you can't because of reasons I named.
Either way how is it an answer when I'm talking about autoEQ specific IEM unit and its interactions with anatomy...
>I'm not the one that asked
