I took a couple days off to attend to my vehicle, and felt bad in fleeting moments, and thinking about it now, i feel worse because everything involved should have been shit I should have handled trivially, even within my trade should have been easy, and as a worker at all should be something i should have had more parts and tooling to handle so i could get in. I shouldn't have given up so easily, and the failure was not so critical. I was weak and gave up in a rage. I'd forgotten how to sweat it.

What I hate most about my current job is that it's clearly staffed with psychos like myself, and that the things I am always on the cusp of giving up on, they're also on the cusp of giving up on. even the management above us is clearly tired and trying and clearly wondering why they still try.

It is so tiring guys… I literally had to set private telegram notification to notify me when the services start to throw errors so I can prompt the fix. If we don’t and we have missing data then we get shit throw at us from every direction. The management don’t understand anything, for every problem we bring up the answer from them is “use ai/we have ai/try that with ai”. Thankfully only 3 more months until my stock option mature and I can fuck off from this burning garbage company and go to live for couple of years to Thailand.

Anyway the proof fix is done going to deploy it now and hopefully that will be the only crash this weekend .

Just got my first non no-name company offers, Idk what to pick:
Woven by Toyota: lowballing me but the team is cool (core autonomous driving system, i.e. controls and planning) lower salary than my current company and meh benefits, verbally told Id eventually work with MLEs, and 2 days a week remote + 30 days workation.
Amazon: systems engineer in a core team of the ecommerce org so big impact and responsiblity, TC is ok, but not really software engineering, not sure about ML exposure either (probably nothing beyond recommender systems).

im pretty much weighing whether FAANG or robotics experience will carry more weight in the future. I dont care about what I work on as long as it is technical, gives me status and make me money.

Past that point, it’s truly over. And at every step you miss, you fall behind. What you work on doesnt matter, you can always lie on a resume and study hard for 6 months before applying to your next dream job. But you cant lie about your company’s name, your title, your start and end date due to background check, so ts the only thing people acrually care about. People will read your bullet points only if youre working against kids with similar backgrounds as yours.

I keep in touch with one of my old bosses, nice guy, fun to talk to. The other day he asked me to check on an interview question he was using, to sort of norm how hard it should be. It was pretty simple but fun, I finished all parts in 10-15 minutes at a pretty relaxed pace. So I told him, yeah, this seems like a good question, I can see how a junior hire might get tripped up on parts of it, but overall good signal. Then he told me he was interviewing for a staff position, and the applicants were not able to finish the problem in half an hour.

Do people straight up not know how to program any more?

The EU, in their infinite wisdom, has created a new markup language that they call "unextended markup language." UXML takes the format of a regular string, but also has "tags," which are surrounded by a % on each side. Any string is valid content for a tag, so %mytag% and %my tag% are both OK. Write a simple parser that extracts all tags from a UXML string.

Part 2: UXML strings can be multiple gigabytes in length and need to be streamed over the web. Adjust your parsing function to handle UXML strings in chunks.

Part 3: OK, now parallelize it.

thats pretty much what I did, The competition in Japan is pretty bad, Japanese software engineers simply arent good. Also theres no real striver culture in japanese universities, since kids are pretty much ensured to be hired by a top company so long as they enroll in a top uni, but companies dont expect students to ACTUALLY learn something in uni. So you end up with Keio/Waseda new grads who know nothing about anything as they spent 4 years jerking off and drinking beer, and they get scooped up by large conglomerates who pretty much unilateraly decide where to place them within the company and then proceed to teach them the job for about a year or two.

But this is too slow for todays standards, and unacceptable for American big tech. So a lot of truly amazing tech offices like Amazon / Google / Indeed / Woven by Toyota have a hard time filling roles with local talents and instead turn towards international talent. Its even better if you speak just a little bit of japanese, like N3 level, if you didnt fuck up your technicals too much youre pretty much guaranteed to be picked before other asian strivers because theyd rather avoid getting too many chinese and indians in/ So Japan is overall a very easy way to get a top paying company with a really good office and great benefits. Your salary will never be US tier but you will live like a king, and after a couple of years you can usually transfer office through internal job postings anyways.

>UXML takes the format of a regular string, but also has "tags," which are surrounded by a % on each side. Any string is valid content for a tag, so %mytag% and %my tag% are both OK.
I had presumed that by that definition, %my tag1%sometext%my tag2%some more text$my tag2%%my tag1% would be valid UXML syntax. In which case, parallelizing or chunking it would be difficult to do.

The other anon quoted this and I agree. I legitimately hate my manager too. I've had to play so many games just to get reasonable things done and I'm tired of it. All the jobs I look at are somehow worse (no wfh) than what I have now. I'm tired.
>>
>>109754508
Now why would you do that
I use it for simple stuff like a normal person and don't have a problem with it

Retards find a way to shove python where it doesn't belong. As a result, you have to build and deploy python code for said platforms.

Have you been living under a rock for the last 3 years bro? All those girlbosses got laid off, the ones that didn't were smart enough to not brag about their luxurious job and salary online. And nobody does CS anymore, CS is a solved field thanks to AGI.
>>
>>109754793
Programming is a solved field, not so sure about cs. Has AI discovered new algorithms or data structures, etc yet?
>>
>>109754485
What did you try to do?
>>
>>109754793
AGI should solve every field because it is Artifical General Intelligence. But because no model in existence is actually AGI, it hasn't yet.
>>109754822
AI is actually better at coming up with new algorithms than it is at actual programming.

Anything that's defined to be omnipotent will be omnipotent. Nobody in AI has established that LLMs can generalize or exponentially self-improve. On the contrary when LLMs go down the recursion well their output quality decays to zero. This has been established since the early days. And it's an open secret right now.
The only solution is throwing more compute at things, which is why they need to fabricate headlines to increase funding. But even that has asymptotic returns.
Probably the worst part is that nobody can measure actual performance because AI companies keep optimizing for any test that AI researchers put out. I personally think the core performance of LLMs hasn't changed much since 2024. It's only that tooling and feeding the data has gotten better.

The most I've ever made as a leaf programmer in 8 years was 58k. The longest I managed to stay at a company was 2.5 years.

I just started a data entry job (easiest job I've ever had) at 56k.

I did tech support for 10 years as well and the money sucked even worse.
>>
>>109755246
Out all things, data entry was supposed to be dead now, even before AI

Wtf

In cucknada my first job out of master's was 120k + equity at a startup. M$ bought us and it became 125k base + 40k equity transfer as RSUs + potentially 10% bonus and 20% RSU bonus. I quit because of politics and went back to school. In 2023 I got my next job. 100k and I had 4 days to relocate 4 hours away. Rent was so high that between life costs and the leftover rental contract I was negative each month. When I asked for a raise after they had promised it and gave me the most glowing performance review ever, I got fired on the spot.
I was interviewing for jobs offering 50-60k after finding nothing at all for 9 months and cucknada not paying my unemployment as they should. I ended up leaving to europe to not go homeless with the last of my pennies. Literally had less than $10 left in the end. First year in europe I made 95k CAD. a year later, 130k. Now I'm at 261k. Never had a problem finding a job here, cost of life is almost half, tax is exactly equal, quality of life is infinitely better.
>>
>>109755295
That's still about standard in cucknada mom & pops shops. Meanwhile they only hire either jeets or locals who've lived there for 20 generations.

Here's the best part. One whole Data Entry team got put into a pilot project for new "automation processes" that should "reduce man hours" but "not cost anyone their job".

And judging by how their workload has changed (literally just feeding half done work into a separate database for a month straight) I'm pretty sure they're just training an ai to take over the data base entry side of the job (which is half the job).

My contract is up by the end of the year and I really don't expect an extension now. lol

I have an impressive pedigree, it's just cucknada crippling me every step of the way that prevented me from getting where I was supposed to be in life. I wasn't even mad at first, the first job I got was already far above what other people get and I felt the politics and mindgames and endless work hours were just the counterpart of that game.
Anyway I digress. Unique skills, validated track record, and lots of luck get you far.

Other than the CEO Nike's entire C-Suite is women. On the face of it not a bad idea if you want to expand out too women athletic leisure a bad idea if you completely ignore cash cows like sneakerheads, men's athletics which by all means is always larger and mens athletic leisure ie hiking, golfing, casual running. An all women crew comes at the cost of ignoring the men.

so before AI, you were a code jannie as a software engineer. the executives viewed you as beneath them. so I'm totally fine with being a "vibe coder" and letting my "write code by hand" skills atrophy (which they really wouldn't because it's like riding a bike.)

Its easy to get laid. I counted that as a benefit when deciding whether I wanted to move. Although I was a khv before Japan, Im pretty degenerate nowadays. I have to say chinese women are far better than japanese women though. Japanese women are demons, and there is a culture of cheating at the workplace. You will not escape it. Dont fall in love with a japanese girl.

Chinese women are only after your money, but they’re pretty upfront and honest about it so Im okay with it, once you date them they usually stop talking to other men and spend a lot of time chatting on wechat with you or their female friends instead. They’re also more honest and loving (some straight up told me that my face is not attractive yet would give me massage and call me to sleep at their place every other night).
