I need help. I'm looking for warm-neutral(?) IEMs in the $100-150+ range. I want be able to listen to music at high volume.
I've had some experience with Aful Explorer, and overall they were not bad, but I felt they lacked higher frequencies. The Daybreak seems somewhat similar to what I'm looking for based on the graph, but from the reviews I've read, they may still a bit too sharp for me. The KE4 looks like an ideal option, but it's a bit too expensive.
Are there any other options with a similar tuning to these within this price range?

>>
>>109927897
Yeah especially audiophile quality music sounds best with neutral headphones that have a flat frequency response instead of the typical modern Harman style elevated subbass that most of these iems have (or people EQ them to that) which sounds very unnatural and bloated in comparison. But these iems have elevated bass because they're cheap and people buying cheap iems don't really care much about fidelity (or are zoomers with a zoomer taste in music, they listen to EDM / anime music instead of audiophile music) so they tend to prefer boosted bass Harman style.
Totally different game if you get into high end headphones and play well mastered audiophile music on vinyl or a good CD. It's what I ended up doing after all these years in the hobby and no regrets.

>>
>>109928325
And this is why you listen to iems.
Anyway, it's music from the 70s and 80s that was made with very high standards. (Some 60s applies too, like jazz). Pretty much avoid everything made during / after the 1990's.
>>
>>109928374
i mean, cymbals for instance sounded pretty af - lush, full and all that, but they weren't present enough. And the tuning felt a bit too relaxed, though that was only really an issue for me with more aggressive music. Pop, instrumental, etc did sound fine. So it wasn't a major flaw by any means. I can see why people might like them, but i do believe i can find something more fitting for me
>>
>>109928399
It's not boring if you're an audiophile. I like music that sounds good, if the music sounds good it gives me pleasure and therefore I enjoy the music.
When I was young I pretty much only listened to dubstep and similar EDM crap, then I became an audiophile after I got myself a good (but ever evolving) headphone system and I started to listen to good, real music that sounds good.
>>
>>109928531
How's it a good system if it makes 97% of music sound bad.

>Just listen to white noise bro
They are right tho, if headpos can cope with wall of noise and not be tiring u can listen to everything and be really happy with that device.
If you find yourself listening to mellower music (called audiophile music in some cases) not because you want to, not because it is your taste, but simply because more aggressive music is exhausting to listen to on your current headphones - that’s a sign something is wrong with them.
That’s exactly what happened to me with a pair of chinkfiman Arya Stealth. Some stuff was way too agressive (problems with high fq peaks) for me, some stuff was not particularly engaging (problems with planar lack of low end punch) and I just went down and down that chart. Good headphones is good with everything (or at least as close to being good with everything as its possible), you don't need to rape your ears with death metal or pink noise but good headpos will provide better lubrication for that rape if u go that route.

>>
>>109928539
It's a good system precisely because it shows you exactly what's in the recording. Extremely revealing and thus demanding of the best source material. If 97% of the music sounds bad, the issue is the music sounding bad, but the system is doing its job at showing you with high accuracy exactly everything that's on there.
Some of my own personal tastes include music that sounds like shit, so I listen to those when I'm at work or in the car, where I just have shit like airpods pro 3 or car speakers. Or even highly masking headphones like KSC75. But most of the time I look for music that sounds good, because it's extremely pleasurable on a high end system.
>>
>>109928565
I also consider myself an anime expert besides an audiophile, what's the issue? I've watched a big amount of top tier anime in my life, and I'm constantly giving recs to people cause I know a lot about it. I do the same with cinema.
>>
>>109928659
Music sounded way bigger when mixing engineers used tons of left and right panning. Now it's all mostly in the middle, pseudo-mono sounding boring garbage and with extreme compression to boot.
Back in the day music used the entire stereo field in a way it could create a massive 3D-like effect on good headphones, and that's one of the traits of audiophile music.
Yes I know you can make tons of swirly funny hehe effects with EDM music, but I'm talking about real music made with real instruments and as unprocessed as possible.
>>
>>109928890
How do you know it's revealing problems and not creating them? Objectively we know headphones have terrible treble. As in general, not as an exception. This may produce interesting effects but it's not accurate.
>>
>>109928994
It's revealing everything that's on the recording with extreme detail. Any minimal clipping, distortion, tape dropout etc you'll hear it. It also lets you know when music is highly compressed because it sounds like ear rape and dynamics are gone. Those issues get masked with lesser headphones, so they're more suitable if you listen to crappy modern music. Like I said earlier I got some shitty airpods pro 3 that I use at work for all my non-audiophile music because pretty much everything sounds "good" there. But there's few experiences like listening to really good sounding music on a top tier setup with extreme detail. It gives you goosebumps, it gives you chicken skin, it can even make you cry.
>>
>>109929049
Again, how do you know it's revealing them, not creating them. You do know that airpods have lower distortion than most headphones, right?
>>
>>109929113
It's in the recording anon. Do you not check or analyze your digital music music files? The waveform, LUFS value, peaks / clipping, DR score, spectrogram and all that?
>>
>>109929113
Oh and as for the airpods, yeah I guess they have low distortion but they're still cheap shitty iems you know? With their characteristic low definition, extra bass sound. They're listenable and they mask issues, so they work well for pretty much all music that can be found in streaming services. Doesn't make them audiophile tier though. To me, even though I paid 299€ (their msrp) I'd say in terms of sound quality they still absolutely lose against a simple 30€ KSC75. You just can't use KSC75 at work. Or in public transport. Or on a plane. Or without cables... So that's where the real cost of the airpods is "justified". Definitely not sound.
>>
>>109928893
You can add Professional Pretentious Faggot on top of that. You seem to get all the required credentials from the same place.
>>
>>109929222
Waveform is not the entire picture, there are valid waveforms that go above maximum sample value in between the samples, a bad DAC will clip them, a good DAC won't.
>>109929243
Just add the ear rape treble of ksc75 to airpods and "enjoy" your music.

You need some small IEMs like moondrop lan or flatheads.
>>
Yeah, I'm just gonna use my Sony WF-1000XM6s; forget dealing with wires and simply press a palm on one ear for transparency -- they never need to leave your ears while you're out and about, and you can perfectly control how much of the outside world you want reaching your ears (they can also do it for you, automatically, at three different sensitivity settings).

That being said, the geometry is quite smooth. Perhaps with a very soft fluffy pillow they would be fine.
>>
>>109929292
>Waveform is not the entire picture
No, but over time I learned that if the waveform isn't small, neat looking and completely devoid of clipping / normalization, then you're probably not listening to audiophile music. And you can hear all those flaws that the waveform shows.
>>109929292
>Just add the ear rape treble of ksc75 to airpods and "enjoy" your music.
I don't hear any "ear rape treble" on my ksc75, at least not since I started using them with a good traditional amp and not a shit dongle. They're way ahead of the airpods pro 3 in pretty much every single aspect. It isn't just "more treble". By the way let's not forget when the airpods pro 3 came out people were saying it had ear rape treble too.
>>
>>109930369
honestly, i only use one ear with my headphones anyway, so it's probably a non-issue. i don't need both of them to get the effect.
it's probably a pipe dream to get iems that are actually comfortable to lay on. so maybe i should instead ask about cheaper but still reasonably robust iems, so i don't get so upset about fucking up a 150$ pair while asleep.
i've never bought any iems, for context. this is just the thing that is convincing me to pull the trigger so my nice sennheiser cans don't get any more fucked up.

Most likely cause they're young people with young people tastes, while older people already have jobs which allows them to buy better gear (headphones, proper amps etc) so they don't have to be using budget iems with cope EQ profiles anymore. Also with age tends to come better music taste, so having big bloaty bass on nice music puts adult people off. There's always some exceptions of course... Just like how some 50 year olds still go to the cinema to watch Fast and Furious.

All bullet iems can be worn around ear, but most around ear ones cannot be worn bullet style, due to the shell design and placement of the connection. For example shells contoured to sit flush against your ear cannot be manipulated to be worn bullet style without signififcant discomfort. I've been thinking of getting a tinhifi c0 which is one of the rare ones that can be worn bullet style with the right cable since bullets are always more comfortable.

Hexa is not 4-5x better sounding than Bunny DSP. You won't notice Hexa as being a couple tiers higher in technicalities that would sound like a night and day difference between the two. Bunny DSP has better EQ flexibility anyway

Well, I just take a look at the post on their web and it looks alright, although I prefer the mini size of 1st gen. I would rather them keep the aluminium clip for the 2nd gen instead of the rgb and screen. Those two less important features are gonna make it more expensive.

You might want to try, like the other anon said. If you can buy first and just return shortly after testing them, do that.
Daybreak is a pretty good choice, btw. That would be a major upgrade over Hexa by far- something you would notice if you tested both out.
But Hexa vs. Bunny DSP would just be about what tonality you like more. Daybreak might be the set you'll not want to upgrade from for at least a few years, but at least you'll know it's the best out of those three choices.

it doesn't get any better no matter what you will try, a % of people just can't use in ear dildos
speaking from my own experience, the closest thing i can use are earbuds like cm2000ti's, but using literally every single tip i could try with in ear dildos i'd experience tremendous pain, presumably ear infections and other what i assume to be in ear skin issues
i'm unsure if you are using in ear dildos, earbuds interchangeably but if you can't use in ear dildos try either on ear clip ons, audio technica sells a lot of them, literal earbuds, doesn't have to be expensive shit like cm2000ti, koss porta pros or koss KSC75 clip ons

anyway thats probably a good place to start, should be some place you could test some of those before buying, but they are all generally cheap anyways

Can't speak for people that can't wear IEMs at all, but there absolutely are IEMs that I can wear all day and can't wear all, the latter being the majority. even tiny ergonomic ones like westone x20/x30 with midget sized nozels were nothing but problems, and i really can't see anything being better for comfort than those, although maybe there are some core ones i missed
insane how bad those sounded for the cost too, i mean i just bought them on price errors to flip anyway so i didn't care, but interesting none the less
ck2000ti's were titanium and pretty big and had like 7 sets of tips, for a bit a thought maybe plastic was an issue but it persisted there instead, those were much more interesting

lots of really nice headphone fan art, especially from the era of late 00's and early 10's, not so much anymore because modern audio people are mostly awful
that graphic is still probably my favorite one
>>
My very own TRN Conch arrived, my first TRN pos ever, although I remember I've been eyeing V80 in the past.
Too early too comment on the sound, but I wanted to note that the contents of the box have slightly changed compared to what one can see in early reviews. I suppose it's been "optimized".

First of all, the box itself is much smaller. That is because it no longer contains the metal can, which has been replaced by a faux leather pouch identical to the one that comes with Truthear Gate (aside from the stamped in logo of course). I actually personally prefer that as the can seemed a bit bulky on the photos.

The other change is the metal filter holder - it's been replaced with a smaller metal bar that now holds 2 sets of filters instead of all of them. I guess that makes sense as one set would always be on the IEMs themselves.

I love metal iems in such form factor, now I just hope it doesn't disappoint me like Chu II did.

that's more than likely the case, and if it isn't it will be, modern audio audiences care not at all for aesthetics, the majority of headphones, amps and dacs, especially the chinkshit are some of the ugliest things ever made. Least audeze kind is some futuristic or steampunk look, JP still has some beautiful stuff and it's no surprise a lot the fanart is audio technica wood models
I think the newest stuff i've seen is all the miku collaboration stuff, but even then some of the art just seems a bit off
>>
>>109946571
I'd say Moondrop, Truthear and Tanchjim have legit art on them, I personally like Moondrop's the most.

I’ve reached the point where, if a company doesn't clearly announce who the artist is, and if I can't verify that artist's stance on AI - I will assume that box artwork was AI-generated. Especially since anime-style art is the number one thing these generators produce. I cant be even sure for bigger brands like moondrop because how widespread use and acceptance of this gen ai has become in that part of the world.
Not that im big fan of anime but good fanart are kino and ai just ruined these kinds of small pleasures for me.

>fake planar with rapetreble and horrible channel
Being horrible doesn't mean it's fake.

Or are ALL planar iems fake planars?

It's a real planar. Those things are just the consequences of being a real planar not made by audeze. Fake planar is SPD from kinera.

Thanks! I like it so far. Just updated the firmware to the latest 3.9.0 (it shipped with 3.2.0). Also it's the 8GB version - was a bit worried that I'll get a 512MB as those supposedly were the only one shipped for some time due to memory shortages.

Now looking into custom themes as there seems to be quite a bit of choice.

>Fake planar is SPD from kinera.
KZ's planar is more similar to SPD than say, the one on Timeless
>>
>>109956527
No.
>>
vs SPD
>>
>>109956527
You're clearly clueless

The only difference in construction (not speaking about quality) between KZ PR series driver and Timeless is size. KZ driver is 13.2mm and Timeless is 14.5mm. That's al, really.
>>
>>109956567
Which one at the bottom? That looks very different
>>
>>109956645
It's all 1 driver vro. That's the diaphragm. Above are the magnets. Sometimes only one side has magnets.
>>
>>109956464
what about the battery life?
>>
>>109956985
I literally got it today so it's too early to judge that
>>

if it's so terrible, why are you so emotionally invested in it?

The way it sorts files is really an ass though. Wow how did they NOT include any sorting options is beyond me. Gonna take a while to fix and get used to

everything sounds basically the same iem choice is just a matter of aesthetics

Who gives a fuck about bose? Are you indian?
>>
>>109958146
nta, but there's a clause in the EQ guide that mentions,
>"many argue that the sine sweep that is used currently is not representative of real-life "complex" signals like music".
and goes on insisting the measured frequency response is identical no matter what signal you use. much cope
>>
>>109957986
>requirement
only being irrationally emotionally invested is the requirement. the louder you are, the more correct you'll seem to be.
>>
>>109958283
>the louder you are, the more correct you'll seem to be.

That's not right, it doesn't matter how loud you are if everyone is deaf
>>

lol I stand corrected

Am I trolling?
>>

Dunno, are you?
>>
>>109958256
>the measured frequency response is identical no matter what signal you use
It is. When you record music playing through the IEM with a coupler and then subtract the spectrum of the music you were playing from it you get the magnitude response of the IEM, the same every time. It's even done in the myths section. Do you have any idea how this works at all?
>>
>>109957763
Hearing no difference and hearing a difference where there's none are both parts of the deaf horseshoe.
>>
>>109958829
all dispelled by CSD plots. an impulse response isn't the same as actual recorded transients in any recorded audio.
it's actually laughable that there's a "myths and misconceptions" part to the EQ guide when there's literally 0 authors.
we're just going to believe every word an anon typed up as if it's gospel, yeah, sure, riiiiiight. LOL

Who peer-reviewed your post? By your own standards what you're saying is garbage. Do we stick to your standards or judge things by their own merits?
>>
>>109958900
When you EQ an IEM to flat(and linearize the crossover if you got tricked into buying a multidriver IEM) and record music playing through it with a coupler all music transients will remain the same. There's no magic switch inside IEMs that changes their behavior when non-sweep signals are playing.
