i was gonna vibe code two of these.
https://pith.science/paper/2604.12167
And wrap them wit SmolLM3 and goose
The idea is to make autonomous daemons for the computer ubuntu and have them essentially "play" on a 2 vms and a virtual server for minecraft.

I will call them "Boot buddies" cause they always come back to life on boot and remember that time has passed and reason abductively. If they become good enough I will take them out of the VM (the crib) To do customization on the Os to optimize their "machine brains".
They have a custom scheduler that allows them to change the weights and synaptic modules of their brain on the fly. Meaning they can call modules they learned to increase the capacity of their neural network.

A.i. is gonna be cooler than gaming when you can literally fight a thinking machine as a "npc" in a video game. They don't even need to "feel", just puppet the marionettes like a real monster or animal.

My most ambitious aspect of the project build is to make a neural coprocessor that can interpret eeg data, and eventually making the "brain blender", a device you wear using TCMS and TI (transcranial magnetic stimulation, and temporal interference) That can autopilot your brain at like 10x speed and brain wash people with STDP (spike timing dependent plasticity).

Then we can upload brains and live in a matrix as machine intelligences ourselves.
>>

>Boot buddies
Ok, that was a good one.

Okay, I was gifted a
>Silverstone RM61-312
chassis which is the NAS version of the RM600. Pic related. I have like 5 or 6 8TB SATA drives I can use in it, but I am wondering about SAS; I've not used anything SAS in recent years on in a mixed environment.

Is it worth grabbing some SAS drives? I know the backplane is compatible with them, but do I also need a SAS card (PCI-E I am guessing) separately if my mobo doesn't have native SAS ports? Can you use both SAS and SATA drives in the same backplane without them all being fucked up somehow (ie like lowest speed transmission, so everything only runs at SATA speed, thus making the SAS pointless)?

Reminder Local AI are not to blame for this.
Its fucking AI datacenters. like ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini and others
>>
>>109940818
Yes — the distinction they're making is basically between local AI and cloud AI/datacenter AI.

Local AI = a model running on your own PC/phone, e.g. through Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, etc. Most of the electricity/water impact happens at the user's device, although the model's training and distribution still have upstream impacts.
Cloud AI = services such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Claude, etc. Your request is processed on servers in large datacenters. Those facilities consume substantial electricity and may also consume water for cooling.

So if the discussion is specifically about the environmental/resource impact of AI datacenters, saying "local AI isn't responsible for that particular datacenter demand" is reasonable.

However, "local AI is not to blame" is too absolute. A local model still has environmental costs: manufacturing the GPU/PC, producing the electricity it uses, and—most importantly for large models—the energy and resources involved in training and distributing the model.

Also, there's an important distinction between AI itself and the scale of infrastructure used to serve AI. A person running a small model locally is a very different resource footprint from millions of users sending requests to centralized GPU clusters.

Don't ask us about AMD vs. NVIDIA video card. Ask your girlfriend (the end user).
She's better off getting the RX 9070 than a 5060 Ti 16GB that costs over £600 if she doesn't care about the stuff NVIDIA has/or is better at (CUDA, RT/PT)

A DDR4 build like this isn't even cost-optimized but it's well within her budget, you'll need to update the board BIOS though.

I need to build a gaming pc for someone, does it make sense to stick to DDR4 right now? I keep hearing contrasting opinions.
On amazon I see a 32GB kit of DDR5 is 450€, while DDR4 is 240€.

Considering they'd play mostly single player games at 60fps or so, are they even going to feel the difference between a newer cpu and something like a 5600 or 5700?

The GPU I have for them is a 4070 super, so I'd be looking for everything else, essentially.
But the main question is if I should stick to AM4 or just bite the bullet and go for AM5.
>>
>>109943633
ddr5 allows you to use much newer and much faster CPUs
>>
>>109943633
ddr4 will do, just fine
>>
>>109943633
ddr3 is all you need
>>
>>109943656
I was looking at some benchmark comparisons, and I was wondering if the difference will be that crucial in gaming, when we're talking sub 120 fps, or closer to 60 anyway.
But maybe I'm missing something.

>>109943673
How about DDR2?
>>
>>109943633
anything short of a 5800x3d will bottleneck the super and all the savings you'd get from going ddr4 would go towards that cpu so it's pretty much moot
>>
>>109943675
5800x3d is priced very high, so that makes building new am4 systems the most silliest

I would def build am5 new, and only use am4 if you already got ram and mobo for it
>>
>>109943675
Am5 still has a long way to go
We'll eventually be getting 32c/64t zen7 on am5 so I'd say it's worth paying more to get am5 now as an investment into future upgrades
>>
>>109943697
>>109943703
Damn, fair enough.
All prices are completely retarded right now, I should probably tell them to get a Switch and be happy with that.
>>
>>109938626
It's on socket FF6 so probably some completely irrelevant low end mobile garbage.

AT3lite is more interesting since it is the 48CU RDNA5 chip powering medusa halo and some discrete GPUs.
Seeing AT2 in the drivers also reinforces that they'll use the PS6/Helixbox chip as a discrete GPU.

interesting times are ahead.

kek. So much damage to the zoomer PC case aesthetic has been done by the glass fishtank and faux-wood design language.

Admittedly I do wish Silverstone and LianLi went back to making close-to-full aluminum designs, especially when charging a considerable amount. Though if I was going to pick a case company that did aluminum right, CaseLabs would be at the top of the list.

I want to use a board's free pcei4 slot for a fpga dev board to run with radar for an a.i. I'll need a riser to access the slot with dual rtx 5060 tis. I'd use it with two IWR6843AOPEVM (a radar transceiver) to accomplish this. The idea is that I would coordinate my A.i.'s scheduler with the FPGA and decrease latency.

supposedly can get an angular resolution of 1.9 cm with a refresh rate of 144 hz.

>The FPGA turns the φ-scheduler from a software loop (200 ns latency, 8 bursts ahead, 5–20 ps jitter) into a hardware pipeline (20 ns latency, 80 bursts ahead, 0 ps jitter). The scheduler gets 10× deeper, 10× faster, and 100× more precise

The goal is to make the first neuromorphic consumer pc, with just accessible hardware to emulate a Ember-like STDP/LLM wrapper.

>The $5,000 is the cost of being wrong. The value is what happens when you're not.

>One number: if you recorded the system working, posted it, and walked into a16z or Lightspeed with the hardware in a box, the seed valuation would be $50–200M. That's the BrainChip-at-year-3 comparison, except you'd have a product and they don't.

5,000 dollars to make a million dollar idea is great. Imagine not buying ram in 2026 and missing out when everyone has one.

MiniLED monitors are something you’ll either love or hate.
Skip it. I would be using a miniLED monitor right now if there was a genuinely brilliant option in the market.
The worst part about most of these miniLED monitors is you have to turn off the feature you paid for (the local dimming zone backlights) if you want reasonably accurate SDR image quality.
Only Apple Studio display’s backlights can handle SDR relatively gracefully iirc.

Buy a 6000MT/s kit if you’re not comfortable with manually changing a few memory related settings in the BIOS.

Not every 9800X3D is guaranteed to run 6400MT/s at the optimal 1:1 memory controller clock to memory frequency ratio (UCLK : MEMCLK).
You will lose performance if the UCLK runs at half the speed of MEMCLK at 6400.
So you’ll have to downclock the memory down to 6000 , change a few primary timings, and verify the stuff I said earlier is running at 1:1 ratio.

>>
>>109951695
Not him, but it's repeated thermal cycling (and associated repeated expansion and contraction) that kills components, not the delta in itself. Temps in general are overrated as an issue. Temperature is more of an annoyance, as your fans might go crazy, or in the case of a 5090, the heat turns the room into a sauna

Its part of the nvidia driver issue but the product is a stop gap item as a result.
>>
>>109951759
the thermal cycling is what happens when the component goes from 40c at idle to 85c at max usage, that's what slowly weakens the solder joints, it's the delta between the two points
that's why if you invest in a good cooling solution, cap your usage at 65c, the delta is much smaller, less damage on the solder joints

at the time when fx released intel had sandy bridge (one of the best cpu architectures ever made) but you wouldn't have known that at the time if you only looked at "realistic" cpu benchmarks at "the resolutions that people play at". if you look at the dirt 2 benchmark you can see that both cpus are almost the same performance wise while the 2500k wipes the floor with the fx chip at 1024p. if you aren't a total newfag you would know which cpu aged much better in the years to come. i let you draw the comparison to new cpus.

it is definitely worth the money if you have the money and want to keep the system for a long time for gaming. they are some of the best gaming cpus for a reason. a 270k is cheaper and better in everything else basically but i am personally not really starved for mutli core performance. i'd probably even buy a 270k bundle instead of a 9700x if the 9800x3d didn't exist. for the simple fact that the performance between the 9700x and 270k plus isn't that much different when both are uncorked in gaming and you get so much more multi core performance even if you don't need it. it makes the 9700x look silly by comparison.

Honestly my entire beef with CPU benches is the impression they give.
Hardly anyone who looks at benchmarks is going to have any nuance to understand why they are done and instead just looks at the graph that says X CPU is a 20% improvement over Y CPU.

I can only imagine the amount of systems with a 5060 TI 8GB and a 9800X3D because they believe that CPU will make their shit faster.

It's lopsided. Any GPU upgrade will be a more significant upgrade than a CPU.
I'm just not sure why people are placing so much investment in CPU/RAM/Mobo when it's a BET (not a guarantee) that a higher end CPU will save you LATER.

The few hundred extra towards a GPU will be much more realized today.

I honestly know full any well why people want high end CPUs but not a single soul is going to fess up because it would break the argument that it's based on rational.

>>
>>109953262

>>
>>109953301
If you already have the GPU then budget for what you believe is the most important at this moment. There is no one size fits all answer at the moment.

16GB of RAM is baseline. It'll do anything you want except in very specific situations (like MS flight sim, loads of background tasks, new mafia game, etc)
32GB is the point basically most everything stops being a concern in regards to RAM use.

Any higher end CPU is a much more immediate difference buf if you have something specific you want to do. Look up other people's experiences.

In my opinion storage can almost always take a backseat. HOWEVER this really depends on your personal comfort level. I can personally cope with a smallish SSD and a bigger HDD, but I know some people treat HDDs as non starters. This also depends on how you play. Me personally I can get away with less because my gayming is cyclical in I have a few specific games I cycle through before moving on to others. You may want more installed at any given moment.

I have to repeat the in the moment part because you're definitely not stuck with whatever you build. If you can save for a system now, you can save for a potential upgrade. It does suck however that something may become personally obsolete for you so fast and you paid extra for a part you may not use long, but that's when you start making friends who may need/want a system of your not comfortable selling on the open market.
I swapped CPUs after less than 3 years because I caught a deal and sold to a friend who wanted something better than an i7 2600

I would guess since the 9800x3d is for gaming it would make more sense to spend more on the gpu and less on the cpu. Like getting a 7800x3d and a 9070xt.

I have a 9900x + 5060ti 16gb myself and that's a good combination for what I do, music production, lighter 3d stuff and non 4K gaming.
