I work for figma - give me your hot takes / feature reqs / q's. in b4 ligma
req: multiplatform, not-webshit-based, platform-native binary fully-offline-capable preferably-foss application with documented, open-source file format for ui design projects that i can be assured with peace of mind something will be able to open and correctly render my design projects stored and edited offline 2, 5 or 15 years from nowcant wait till this specific SAAS shit becomes unfavorable for some reason and ux fags again rush to convert their hundreds of designs and diagrams by hand to the new browser-based subscription meme thing(TM) like they do every 2-5 years (zeplin, invision, whatever else has been hip recently)
>>457188> not-webshit-basedYou do realize figma is written in C++ right? We aren't penpot with a html+js renderer.
whats figma again?
>>457194i've heard of that but it still manages hit some shitty web browser per tab memory limit even with 32G of ramtied to a web browser, saas, requirement to online authenticate, always online and proprietary formats is ultimate linkedin corporate cuck "creative professional" experience, no ownership or long term backup and preservation of you own work, i guess ui design is disposable
>>457196and maybe the 'desktop app' you can download is supposed to be more performant than in the browser, but i've seen the opposite where it lags less in chrome on the ux person's applemac computer
fuck browser only shit personally.but yeah, i do some wix and webflow
> i've heard of that but it still manages hit some shitty web browser per tab memory limit even with 32G of ramTrue and I cannot deny this. The 4gb WASM cap is terrible. Hoping that google finally gives up on supporting 32bit plebs. It's been 20 years.>>457197Na desktop app is pretty much identical. It's just an electron wrapper to make a few things easier / not have to load the full package every time. Both are using the same wasm engine.
>>457181Hook me up with a Product Designer job, or at least give me access to the AI generator that I've signed up for.
>>457181Doy you get free tickets to WonFes, or figures?
>>457188invision sunset'd
>>457242>The 4gb WASM cap is terrible. Is it really justified that a compiled CPP binary that has to store and render 2D vector context and metadata of some rounded corner rectangles and users interacting with them even NEEDS 4G of dedicated RAM? What are you guys doing? That's 2.5+ GB more than most AAA videogames in 2000s (DOOM III, HL2, GTA etc.).
>>457181I love figma, but damn do I wish I could use it offline and have a native local saving mode instead of exporting everything all the time.Shame on the SaaS
>>457181>figmaYour AI system's need some serious work.Even GPT-4's data is still going to plagiarize other data. Just like cloud computing, it has to come from somewhere. If you don't personally make the training data, then your always going to get graphic design "watermarks". Calling it a first draft is better then what Adobe's doing, but please just make your own training data or add it into the fine print that you plan to use user data.
why the fuck have you made it so, that once you purchase team for a file -> everyone you invite and give edit access will be secretly added to your subscription without letting you know, raising your subscription by 10$ every time someone edits your files?this is like same level of scummy as adobe.
allow me to set default padding in preferences on an autolayout layer its so fucking annoying that it just automatically gets 10 around all sides, completely nonsensical
>>457181Dev mode is gay
>>457254Should be releasing it to more shortly. TBD on full access, since we need to figure out what to charge for it. AI stuff costs $$$>>457335The entire app is only around 60MB. What takes memory is the libraries and file data. Keep in mind many files have 100k+ nodes we have to handle. >>457853no u
>>457181as a design system maintainer it's annoying that other people on my team can go into the file and just make changes on the main branch. i should be able to lock the main branch and require all changes be made through branching/merging. this is how a lot of developers set up their repositories.the biggest issue is that when people go in and make changes i have no idea what they even changed, the release modal just says a component has been "modified" without any hint at what happened. the only way to revert these changes is to go back to a previous version of the file which is fucking dreadfulit's not like locking a file from changes doesn't already exist either, it's literally what happens when you merge a branch, the branch becomes locked and can't be changed
>>457181>>457944second thing i would like to see is a more detailed panel that describes what overrides have been set on an instance. there's the "reset changes" or "reset text styles", etc. options in the dropdown which work but i would like to see all overrides and what properties they effected on a specific instancethird thing is plugins like "selective surgery" and "select siblings in auto layout" to be built into figma, they're so incredibly useful when making bulk changesfourth thing is when i select multiple nested instances for some reason all the properties go away? for what purpose???fifth thing is some built in function for exporting/importing local variables as a tabular format or json, plugins are buggy for this purposesixth thing why the fuck when i set a border color on a section does the section title not adopt the color of the border, it has to be the background color for some reason. like if i want a blue section title i have to make the entire section background blue, who would ever want that?seventh thing please add percentage widths i'm fucking beggingeighth thing why even call "constrain proportions" that if the second you put it in an auto layout it doesn't workninth thing why is the find panel so fucking slowtenth thing is having those fig jam connectors just as a built in tool for figma, when i'm handing over project files i like to have the screens diagramed so developers understand the flow, there are plugins that let you paste in a figjam connector and it works it's just not officially a thing. other plugins are paid for some fucking reason like i'm not giving you $10 a month so i can have arrows
>>457946oh yeah eleventh thing, give me a way to use a previous version of a plugini'm fucking tired of plugin authors releasing a buggy update that breaks my ability to use a plugin i need to get my job done and they take WEEKS to fix ittwelfth thing allow us to make non clickable section titles in the pages panelthirteenth thing as a design system author it sucks having to lay out all my components, with documentation, statuses, etc. i just wish there could be a more automated way of doing this that isn't running a shit ton of pluginslike tools like storybook and knapsack allow you to programmatically make design system documentation websites i don't see why figma couldn't especially since there's some of that functionality built into dev mode
>>457948fourteenth thing it's retarded that i can't change the size of individual strokes, what is the point of being able to add multiple strokes then
feels basic but i only use it to make 2cad drawings to design carpentry bits as adobe is pants for CAD and i dont have any other scale drawing softwarefigma works fairly well to plot things out accurately, draw shapes to scale and for calculating builds more whilst allowing for alterations as im developing the idea and being able to present a design to the end client, could open up a huge new potential user base in 2d cadSuggestions...S.1 - when you click place a square it should automatically focus input Dimensions (W value) rather than clicking into it, seems fairly sensible i just placed a square and it autos to 100x100 im going to want to input valuesS.2 - the pen tool needs a readout of plot values when placing a vector point (rather than guessing then having to adjust all the values after)S.3 - the align tool has no anchor point so is good to side 2 objects but then always needs to be re-positioned. Make a align left move to the left most object etc. like in other softwareS.4 an ability to pull out or annotate dimensions layer would be good tho i realize this is not actually cad software
>>457181Why the hell isn't there an official Linux client?
