>30 percent of women historically died during childbirth
>generation after generation, despite such a huge population filtering event, women still kept dying until a century ago to this common occurrence
Can anyone explain this phenomenon? You would think it would take natural selection a generation or two to sort out the women with well developed hips for childbirth, especially with such a massive bottleneck, but apparently it still kept happening for thousands of years
>>

it makes sense
the human population has always been ridiculously low.
The IE took centuries to "conquer" Eurasia because of this;
baby makers died (or "women", how they call)
>>
>>16535064
That's 30% of women dying in childbirth at some point in their childbearing years, not a 30% risk per birth.

What usually happened was that a woman would push out a couple kids just fine when she was young, then die in childbirth later on as age and cumulative injury took their toll on her body and made her less able to bear the strain of it. But this isn't a selective pressure at all, because her genes had already been passed on in the kids she'd successfully birthed earlier on.
>>
>>16535064
Delivering the child is the goal of natural selection, not surviving the delivery.
>>
>>16535094
The most difficult delivery is always the first one, highest chances for the baby to get stuck and die inside the woman, for the womb to get ruptured from intense contractions and bleed to death. After the first one the rest of births are piss easy, until they shit out the 5th kid, then there is risk of rupture over scarring.

Most women would die at the first birth overall.

Because the average age when giving birth was like 13.

1. Humans had no idea how infectious diseases or infections worked before 1750. Pre-modern physicians knew about sterilization, but not to the extent we know today. The entire idea of being able to define a disease as a material object that can be controlled, even engineered, didn't exist to them. For them it was the will of god and not something that they could influence. Many of the deaths were preventable by modern standards.

2. C-sections, modern surgical instruments, and professionally trained surgeons capable of doing it did not exist before 1800 and did not exist before 1900 in most of the world. If complications occurred, the woman was fucked as there was no way to get the baby out as most men won't stab their own wife and child to kill the latter to save the former.

3. Important life-saving equipment such as oxygen machines didn't exist because people didn't realize air was an object that can be manipulated, purified and used. Many deaths probably could have been preventable if the woman could get more air to sustain life functions longer.

By the way, fetal deaths were still very commonplace until the 1980s for the same reasons. Even if the mother's life could be saved, often the baby's couldn't. So ask yourself how humans survived in the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s before professional medicine came down in price where midwives were eliminated for OBGYNs.

But why havent women evolved wider hips and vaginal canals to make childbirhth easier throughout the years?

>>16535122
In most cases the child will die as well

>But why havent women evolved wider hips and vaginal canals to make childbirhth easier throughout the years?

They did and women with wide hips, fat asses and a verified history of successful childbirth were worth more money than prettier women. For most of human history, most humans were property as slaves, and slaves' value were based on their overall health and ability to make new slaves. However, because there was never a consistent standard for health until 1850, there was no consistent definition of what a "healthy" childbearing woman was. This often differed greatly based on culture, preventing natural selection from working properly. The rise of the printing press and mass media assisted this as verifiable, scientifically provable medical information could suddenly be dispersed cheaply.

When humans did realize this, the Eugenics movement began and would remain legal until the 1970s.

Childbirth is a messy business.

Pushing out a baby can involve shitting yourself and tearing the vagina. You get shit in open wounds, in hard to reach places and there you go.

10 examples?

Women are supposed to give birth squatting. Laying down on their back induces potential complications and is done mostly for the convenience of the doctor/midwife delivering the baby.

I wonder how they do it in uncontacted tribes like those in andaman

where are the peer reviewed sources for any of these claims?

Why do you want the opinion of "peers"? Do you know who the peers are in the first place?

Sauce? I was told that the average of giving birth was always in the 20s and having sex with teens was always a historical abnormality.

huh, really? Then why is it considered a problem now?

the cause of childbirth death is not anatomical but due to poor nutrition, each child depletes her nutrients, why first child was usually the healthiest.
>>
>>16535246
>But why havent women evolved wider hips and vaginal canals to make childbirhth easier throughout the years?
They (well we as men carry these genes too) are, it's why White women have the widest hips: their kids have the biggest skulls. The problem is that there's a competition between wider hips for childbirth and thinner hips for bipedalism. Women with wider hips often suffer from hip problems due to how the weight (which is increasingly on the angled socket of the femur) sits.

>>16535064
it helped to keep the population down

Wrong...

>Can anyone explain this phenomenon? You would think it would take natural selection a generation or two to sort out the women with well developed hips for childbirth
That's exactlly what happened though.
Women also had far more children each.
like more than ten. Basically continuously pregnant.
So it isn't surprising that they would die in childbirth.
>>16535167

Also wrong.
Holy shit you idiots think that women can magically get pregnant without a period.
So many extremely stupid and uneducated pedophiles on 4chan that don't understand basic human reproduction.
