How did the Poles and Hungarians annihilate 100k Mongols in the 1280s?
Those should have been invincible in open battle.
>>
It was 10k Mongols and 10k Slav(e) vs 50k Slav(e)
>>
>>16535954
Incorrect
>>
>>16535946
They ravaged them with heavy knights and crossbows
>>
>>16535946
They were not that many and they were not invincible in open battle.
>>
>>16535961
He's kind of not though. Even at their peak, Mongols could only spend 15-20000 men for Central European adventures. When they initially rekt Poles and Hungarians it was mostly for the lulz. The second time around Hungarians were better prepared, and to their credit they adapted quickly to counter Golden Horde (more Turks than Mongols) incursions.
>>
>>16536510
The second invasion different from great Mongols horde
>>
>>16536510
The golden Horde was very close to Europe, they at least sent 50k soldiers but got mollywhopped. But nobody knows how
>>
>>16536523
Great Mongol Horde
>"Jebe and Subutai, take two tumen and go see what lies beyond big water and high mountains"
>"Jawohl mein Khan!"
it was 20000 men at best. I know it's hard to cope but logistics were what they were. The Mongols marched three times as fast as anybody else (non steppe) so it kade them look 3 times bigger.
>>
>>16536561
Where the fuck did Golden Horde even get 50k soldiers when the entire Mongol army at its peak was 120000 strong and the bulk of it was tied up in China.
>>
>>16536510
>>16536460

The medieval chronicles say it was 100k-200k Mongols and they were slaughtered to the last man
>>
>>16536586
Thats horseshit and you know it
>>
>>16536594
And you uncritically accept this as fact?
>>
>>16536586
The bulk of it was not tied up in China. China was a very docile conquered territory. Mongols literally sent a single warrior to kill random Chinese peasants as a loyalty test.

The bulk of their forces were on the frontier.
>>
>>16536594
And Caesar killed seventeen million gorillion Gauls personally, he said so in his book
>>
>>16535946
King Bela IV and Leszek II prepared againt the Mongols by upgrading the castles and the military tactics. They also put catapults on the towers so the Mongols could no longer besiege them without getting bombarded.
Instead of using light cavalry they used heavy knights and footmen with crossbows. When the Mongols came close they shot at the horses. When the Mongols became inraged they simply charged the heavy knights into them.

The Mongols made the mistake that they gave them a couple decades time to make preparations
>>
>>16535946
The OG Hun-garians are Turkics
It takes a steppe man to take down another steppe man
>>
>>16536599
They had severe manpower issues right from the get go. The Great Khan would flip shit if his army took too many casualties and would order wholesale massacres in retaliation. The Mongols were not a numerous people. Their pastoral lifestyle did not allow for the demographic growth seen in agrarian societies. This is not just common sense. It is well sourced too. Some websites give 150k as the highest. The Secret History says 105, Rashid al-Din says it grew to 129. And that's nominal strengh.
>>
>>16535946
History is fake and gay.
>>
>>16536620
You need to work on your timelines there bud. The Song Empire was still alive and kicking, they did not own all of China in 1241. Point is, even at full 100% strength there is no way GH could have raised 50k troops, let alone 50k Mongols. There were 105k Mongol soldiers available at the time of Genghis, and that was nominal strength. If Batu took 50, what does it look like for Chagatai, Hulagu, or Kublai? There is just no way.
>>
>>16535946
Hungarians are mongols.
Poles are slavic mongols.
This was just a Mongol Civil War.
Tengri Biz Menen.
>>
>>16536680
In 1280 they might have still had some Turkic blood but already minimal, and had been a settled feudal people for 300 years. They didn't know shit about steppe warfare at that point. Like how a half-black American zoomer doesn't know shit about 18th century British naval warfare.
>>
>>16536594
>100-200k
Then the medieval chronicles must also tell about the year after when Bela marched into Karakorum unopposed and pulled the Khagan's beard after bitch slapping him with his dick because his victorious army somehow slaughtered more Mongols than actually existed.
>>
>>16536680
They had already whitecleansed by German rape at that point. Vast majority of steppe tactics forgotten
>>
>>16536687
>Mongols losing their entire population while invading Europe
Sad!
>>
>>16536628
Veni Vidi Vici
(no, I will not pronounce V as W. nu-classicists eat dick)
>>
>>16536730
>Sad!
>Build the wall!
Lmao stone walls actually worked during the second invasion. There were more castles, they were better manned, everybody understood the danger and reacted accordingly. It was very much a top down revolution though. The king forced his nobles to build in stone. Crossbows helped too.
>>
>>16535946
You beat an army of horse archers with combined arms, that is proper coordination of shielded infantry, bowmen/archers and heavy-ish cavalry. Don't get baited by their fake retreats and you're half way there.
>>
>>16536834
This. If you don't follow them into their cowardly traps there is not that much they can do other than rape the countryside to make you mad
