The motorized infantry races to partially prepared fortifications in Belgium(Belgians became reluctant to do it as the time progressed so they weren't that well prepared) while the most modern parts of cavalry help the Belgians to fight delaying action. The less modern cavalry troops and some of the motorised infantry is kept in reserve in case the Germans attack through Ardennes and reinforcements of that line are needed.In 1939 the plan was modified. Captured German invasion plans showed that the Germans planned exactly that, plus they wanted to push through the Netherlands. This, in conjunction with newly formed DCRs(armoured reserve divisions) prompted Gamelin to move the motorized reserve to relink with the Dutch.Meanwhile in Germany, Hitler was having hard time convincing his time that a change of plans is needed. Even before the capture of the German war plans, he was supporting a strike through Ardennes, but the officer corps was not that convinced. It was seen as risky and having a higher chance of ending with a stalemate that the French wanted(they didn't expect total victory). Eventually Hitler had his way.If you know the basic history of the campaign, you know that the French almost contained the Germans at Sedan but once the latter broke through they didn't have enough mobile units to check their advance. This means that the victorious campaign of 1940 wages on 2 factors - an airplane accident that led to the Belgians getting the invasion plans and Hitler managing to convince the generals to do as he wanted. In real history the incompetence is much more rare to find as you see.

Some nice victories against the Italians and Germans in North Africa, such as Operation Compass and Operation Crusader. But Britain was a their worst when under the command of Montgomery, who was a total moron and probably one of the worst generals of the war. Completely fumbled up the Normandy Campaign.
