According to the Bible, Hades/Sheol is separated between the righteous and the wicked. Those on the wicked side experience suffering while the righteous experience bliss in the bosom of Abraham. A huge chasm separates the two places. Understood to be Tartarus where the fallen angels are imprisoned aside from the Devil himself and his demons which do not reside in Hell but on Earth actively "ruling" it and causing havoc.Everyone in Hades/Sheol will be resurrected and given eternal life during judgement day as the Kingdom of God will descend upon the Earth. The Lake of Fire will open and the Devil, his minions and those too wicked to figure in the Book of Life will be thrown in it and be destroyed for eternity.

Devils & demons do seem to reside in Hell, people say they freely wander around and torture people when the mood strikes them - sometimes they merely annoy people or mock people, but other times they butcher people, skin them, and eat their flesh. You cannot die in Hell, so you're conscious for this affair and your 'body' will eventually reconstitute itself. The good news is that C.S. Lewis seems to have won out, most people describe Hell as a bit of a revolving door: the place is locked from the 'inside', if it is at all, and people constantly leave. Many people who've plummeted into Hell have also described how they've been guided or taken out: many of them get guided out by Angels, Jesus Christ, other divine entities, etc.. Others are carried out by a deceased pet, a handful of determined people just walk the fuck out and describe it as "the most difficult experience of their entire lives". As said before the light of God does in fact penetrate the realm and acts as a beacon to guide people out.

Hellenism had a place afterlife (the dead go to the underworld aka Hades where they are punished or rewarded for their actions in life), Zoroastrianism had an escathological afterlife (there will once be an apocalypse where Earth is remade into a paradise and the dead will come back to life to live there). Parts of the Bible that are more Hellenic influenced talk about Hades, parts that are more Zoroastrian influenced talk about resurrection after the apocalypse. Revelation for examle is extremely similar to the Zoroastrian apocalypse prohecy.
