You answered it yourself

it's just so funny to me. my friend has no clue about history. nothing. didn't even know what the byzantine empire was. absolutely nothing.

he decides he wants to learn about history and the first book he buys is written by a fucking jew. how can the system be so accurately rigged? it's fascinating

I don't think a single person from 4chan has ever read that crap

i was expecting somebody to have done so

Coming from someone who's not an antisemite schizo: very interesting book for its short length it manages to pack enough about the subjects it handles. Obviously everything is surface level but there is no way around that unless you write multiple times.
The odd reasoning explaining why hunter gatherers would have been happier than we are now is weak at best though, that part kinda reads like the conclusion was drawn first and then the rest was written

Haven't read it but it sounds like pseudo-scientific bullshit and globalism isn't an "empire" like he apparently claims in the book. It's the opposite. An empire is a top-down vertical structure that produces a class-based society. It establishes the conditions for culture. Capitalist globalism is an auto-exploitative horizontal structure that levels classes and makes the wealthy indistinguishable from the poor in that everyone is now a porn-addicted narcissist. There is no culture within capitalist globalism.

You are just seething that the modern cultural product has surpassed the 50's.

Are you Indian by any chance?

The "modern cultural product" is the computer. Modern society is a computer society — that is, it can only calculate like an autistic machine. It has no sense of narrative, like the computer, which moves on to the next line of code without delay. Capitalist globalism is not an empire but a network of isolated NPCs who believe they are free. This is Nietzsche's medicated last man society that believes it's discovered happiness and then blinks.

No, retard.

It's extremely shallow. It's basically middle-school history packed into a fancy big book and sold for adults who don't remember middle-school history classes.
>>
It's a good (not perfect) book for what it is OP, don't let the ad hominem towards the writer fool you. If the writer was a white Christian /his/ would recommend it all over for people who want to learn about the general history of man with a light touch of philosophy

>willingly reading jewish pilpul
gwt him some herodotus instead, the mere thought of what that jew migh have written makes me wanna puke

If your friend is starting with history it's a nice quick summary. I was on a pop history kick a few years back before diving into events I knew nothing about. I also read a Brief History of Everything which was a comfy read. It's not really notable. I probably wouldn't want to be friends with you though. Why didn't you give him a recommendation after he finished if you didnt like the book for some shallow reason? Why did you come straight here to shit on him?

>that part kinda reads like the conclusion was drawn first and then the rest was written
to me that was basically the entire book.

He attempts to tackle an interesting overlooked topic and presents some surface level facts but his analysis is poor, confirmation bias, leaping to conclusions, confusing cause and effect. Pic related, either he doesn't realize it is bullshit or he is not giving credit to Johnny Carson who came up with the joke. It all seems like very low effort, it is a mystery why critics don't eat him alive and why his book gets memed so much.

Only seen snippets from my friend because I don’t read pop-history by Reddit atheists who try and dilute history into a single book.
I do know there is 1 part where the author starts cooming over Zoroastrianism and says unlike Christianity it doesn’t suffer from the problem of “if God good why am I butthurt?” The author clearly knows nothing about zoroastranism or theology.
