Is there a comprehensive reading list for every single US president? Like a good leftwing and rightwing book for every single one? I guess that's not as necessary for anyone pre-Wilson besides Lincoln and Teddy, as all those presidents are more likely to have more neutral assessments of their history in office.
how do you keep track of 50 politician
>>16884588Broad generalizations mostly and 1 in like 5 presidents is even recognized as having done anything
>>16884673I'm retarded so here's what I think without looking up a single fucking thingTruly noteworthy tier>Washington>Adams (only for being a founding father, really)>Jefferson >Jackson>Polk>Lincoln>Teddy Roosevelt>Wilson>Franklin Roosevelt>Lyndon Johnson>Reagan>Trump/Biden (mostly notable for the establishment meltdown around them rather than any real policies. May as well be counted as the same era as a result)Fairly notable tier>Madison>Monroe>Andrew Johnson>Grant>Truman>Nixon>Bush JrNotable for things not sucking ass while they were in office>Eisenhower>Clinton Gay losers>Everyone else yes including Kennedy, Obama, John Quincy, etc
>>16884717Washington was a gentleman but no politician, he was so weak politically he let Hamilton become Treasurer, a position he immediately exploited for personal gain and forever ruined the position, despite having no knowledge of economics or business.Hamilton was so powerful he overshadowed Adams, the entire Federalist party pushed for war to crush France for financial gain and to give the British a New England classic reach-around. They were so unpopular they initiated a country-wide ban on criticism of their government, something that fueled the collapse of their party and the rise of the Virginian Dynasty, which supported the French.
>>16884806New England, still sore about getting dismantled politically by Virginia, then conspired with the British during the Napoleonic wars during James Madison's presidency, even letting the British burn the White House to the ground by refusing to cooperate with the rest of the US.Quincy Adams, son of the only Federalist president, ended the Virginian Dynasty through a contingent election meaning he was elected through the House of Representatives. This was controversial if only because he selected Henry Clay to be his Secretary of State, a huge proponent of Federalist corruption and the leading member of the House. This prompted Jackson to "break the bank" that the resurged federalists wanted to use to print money for infrastructure so they could skim off the top and line their pockets.
>>16884918in the 1840 the federalists buried the hatchet and decided to engage with "jacksonian democracy", that is, populism, to try and win the presidency. They did this successfully and not without great disgust and elected William Henry Harrison, who promptly died. This gave John Tyler the presidency who vetoed everything the federalists tried to pass. The next three presidents worth mentioning, Fillmore, Pierce and Buchanan, are either completely ignored by historians or are blamed completely for the civil war. They were all southern presidents that sought to ease tensions between the north and the south diplomatically and failed.
