>sign WW1 armistice
>force the soldiers to keep fighting for 6 hours so the war can officially end at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month
>3000 soldiers died during this 6 hour period
Why is this allowed? Why were so many people allowed to die for absolutely no reason? Shouldn't the government officials have called off the fighting as soon as possible? Is having a "poetic end" to the war really worth 3000 lives?
>>
There were even stupider deaths when the western Allies got word of the armistice, and decided they couldn't be assed to take all that equipment on the front back home, so they decided to fire as much ammo as possible in order to have less things to carry with them. A good number of men died because their bosses couldn't be bothered to clean it up like good jannies.

wait they signed a peace deal at 5:11 AM? Why were they up and negotiating that early? Or was it a "lasted all through the night" thing?
>>
An armistice is not the end of the war, just an agreement to pause the fighting. Negotiations could have broken down and the war starting again so the two sides needed to ensure their forces were in the best position if that happened.

Some of them deserved it, like the American officer that was demoted and was hoping a final charge and capture of German territory in the last minutes of the war would clear his name. Both his own troops and the Germans told him not to do it, but he went ahead anyway and the Germans blasted him with a machine gun.
Henry Gunther was his name.

yes.
Verification not required.

imagine thinking any of the people involved in peace negotiations didn't view those on the front lines in more or less the same way as a /gsg/ autist views the pixels that comprise his doomstacks lol

If only this was true. Unfortunately their views towards their subjects are more deliberately malicious than that.
