Recent Assassins Creed Japan controversy made me think about how many hacks there are in history field that just spout fan fiction crap and people believe them. What happened to peer review and critical thinking in academia? Is history dead as an academic field and it now is just a tool for someone to use to create a narrative? How many revisionists and liars are still in the field, writing books and getting exposure that are still yet to be called out?
>>16889528History has always been a narrative filled with bias and lies to benefit the teller and their society.Herodotus made each Persian King after Cyrus more and more corrupt to ensure they would be evil when the invasion of Greece happened.Plutarch used history to teach contemporary moral lessons.Jews flat out lie in the Old Testament about their surrounding neighbors to gain legitimacy for their land claim. The Egyptians memory holed Pharaohs they didn't like.Hell, a YouTuber has been going on an autistic spiral into alcoholism and the narratives surrounding the Spanish Conquests of the New World. It should be no surprise that historians are doing so now, because they always have been and always will. History isn't written by victors, it's written by writers
