>>16890258they didn't want to replace him they wanted a constitutional monarchy in which the parliament had more power. the king raised a second army and lost a second time and that is when they decided that he was traitor and needed to be executed. even then many of the parliamentarians didn't agree with that decision, most notably Thomas Fairfax. The issue with the civil war is that the parliamentarians was a rather mixed faction of reformers and also revolutionaries. the new model army troops were rather radical but many of the leaders were less so.
