>16th century: Protestant reform against the pope
>17th century: English revolution against monarchy
>18th century: French revolution against Christianity
>19th century-20th century: Socialist and communist revolutions against everything

What explains this trend? What explains Cromwell? What was going on in the 17th century?

17th century was over all 30th Years War and the end of religious wars in Europe

>>17th century: English revolution against monarchy
It was more a side effect of charlie being a fucking mong and it spilled over into striking at the monarchy
>>
>>16890253
If it was about the king, they'd want to replace him like the billion of kings before him in all countries. But they wanted to overthrow monarchy altogether, so something else was going on.
>>
>>16890242
And now we have Trumptards rebelling against female and black characters in video games.
>>
>>16890269
No, it's still the democrats rebelling against everything, you're just reddit-pilled
>>
>>16890253
The same thing happened during the French revolution. Nobody, except an extreme minority of radicals, wanted to overthrow the monarchy in 1789 or 1790.

True it wasnt about the character of the king so much as the power of king vs the parliament and unlike the earlier king john who conceaded Charlie ran off from defeat and captivity to yet another defeat and captivity - meaning there was no way to secure parliamentary victory other than by axing the king.
This put them in an awkward spot as the war wasnt for a pretender but simple power relations, altough I dont think cromwell minded filling the vacated spot it up

So maybe it was more a trend of increased aristocratic power, increased parliamentary power, increased middle class power, increased lower class power, etc.

Interesting, but jews don't really explain the protestant reform since luther and others hated them
>>
>>16890315
Prots were just on average more religiously rolerant than catholics which lead to many jews being tolerated

You're a very low IQ poster

they didn't want to replace him they wanted a constitutional monarchy in which the parliament had more power. the king raised a second army and lost a second time and that is when they decided that he was traitor and needed to be executed. even then many of the parliamentarians didn't agree with that decision, most notably Thomas Fairfax.

The issue with the civil war is that the parliamentarians was a rather mixed faction of reformers and also revolutionaries. the new model army troops were rather radical but many of the leaders were less so.

Jews were behind him.

Maybe you can say that about Calvinists and Anglicans, but Lutherans actually listened to what Luther himself had to say about them.

In the end, Cromwell was a military dictator, just without the rampant gay frills of the Stuarts

I think it was called merchantism, a fore-runner to capitalism, the grocery class had become enormously wealthy, and wanted more say in the running of the country
