If you have read the prophets you would realize how unhappy he was about it. The idea that he would imitate a practice he considered abominable is absurd. It was all a campaign by the Second Temple era priesthood to scare people into submission. That's why the lay understanding of the Temple was that sacrifices was absolutely necessary to cover for sins, and why Christianity has Jesus' execution as the lynchpin of the faith. Here's a good tip. When Yahweh made threats in the Old Testament it was physical calamity. When he delivered it was proof of his power. Any god that cannot prove their power in a similar way but has to defer punishment in some unverifiable way is *probably* deceiving you. Which hell do you think Leo went to, Gehenna or Jahannam?
