What was the most kino era of historical warfare, and why was it pike and shot?

Good armors and formations, sad that pike and shot just lasted about 150 years, I would have like to see it for a longer time

Agreed. The 17th century in general is just the perfect blend of the late medieval and the early modern. Roaring cannons, horsemen in heavy armor, deep pike formations, hedges of musketeers, wildly riding harquebusiers and croats... just kino.

Well the nature of it was that of a transitional period.

For me, it's the 19th Century in general.

Is this the 1600s in Europe? I felt like in AP European History, you only talk about the Peace of Westphalia and that's it in regards to combat in Europe at that time. Shame too cause the Thirty Years' War sounds incredibly interesting.

So they aimed for the horse (line 4) and then finished the guys that lost their horses by impaling them (line 2)?

There are many more wars in 17th century Europe than the 30 Years War. Especially the Habsburg-Ottoman Wars in the latter part of the century are of note - even though the importance of the pike diminished ever more and by the end of the century the stereotypical linear style of warfare was firmly in place.
The Peace of Westphalia on the other hand is important as it codified the notion of the sovereignty of states.

I'm not from the USA - does the AP stand for this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Placement ?

Targetting the horse is a valid tactic - especially since the horse is a larger target

I always like eras where nobody is 100% sure what works and armies are highly different in organization, so the late middle ages is neat
>French Ordonnance using mounted archers and knights
>English using knights on foot and longbowmen
>Scottish pikemen
>Swiss pikemen
>Germans using reiters where armoured dudes with pistols kite the enemy
>Spanish using knights, light cavalry with javelins, and mixed formations of pikemen and dudes armed with swords and shields

Interwar period is also neat with the experimental developments in tanks and aircraft leading to shit like tanks with five turrets, infantry tanks with impenetrable armor but only a machinegun, tanks with a howitzer in the hull and high velocity gun in the turret, and tanks with a howitzer in the turret and coaxial high velocity gun also in the fat turret.

1600s truly was peak history. The outfits were off the charts, every transitory period where old clashes with new is always amazing. The like 1900s end of the fancy royal families and pretty uniforms transitory period was also great, but 1600s definitely takes the cake.

18th century warfare mogs. Elegant, civilized, rational, genteel.
