Hungarians had been assimiliating well into Austro-German society for centuries, had the compromise never happened and liberals shot, Hungary would be Germanized by ww1, it would still become independant but would be under a weird limbo state as Ireland is today where they reject being Austrians and Germanic but speak a German tongue as their native language
