The entire reason for the quick conquest of Poland was to maximize the amount of saved Germans. Also it meant a better position for future negotiation. But all of that didn't matter. The Focus Group already had their claws in British parliament and managed to create a pro-war, anti-German attitude. Have you forgotten the weird pre-war war scares, which they concocted? How Germany has to be attacked, because they made a trade deal with Romania and this meant they want to attack Romania or whatever, despite not even sharing a border?
