It was a gradually change similar to how Roman culture and customs came to Britain. There wasn't this mass genocide of Celtic culture or anything. In fact even English today has a fair amount of Celtic words. Many places in England still have Celtic names. Nearly all English are partially Celtic genetically. It's worth noting also that the Anglos converted to Christianity fairly quickly, within a few generations the entire population had been thougrouhly Christianised and Wodan was mostly forgotten. Saint Bede mentions that the Angles were largely converted by Augustine (not of Hippo) in 597, a mere 121 years after 476 when Rome fell. During this period the Angles Saxons and Jutes basically filled the power vacuum left when Rome fell (and many Romans left Britain). It's theorised around 200,000 came to Britain in the next 100 or so years which maybe had a population of somewhere under 2 million if combined with Ireland.
