The fact that it was a dark age is precisely why I have utmost admiration for the medieval ancestors. They lived a thousand years under the harshest of conditions humanity has faced, yet they still had hope and carried on, eventually spawning one of the greatest civilizations ever created. Any other people would've given up to extinction if they lived like this.In contrast, the Romans had it easy. They had running water, free bread, and circus entertainment. Impressive yes, but this is exactly why they became such soft people. It all resulted in corrupt politicians and civilian revolts everywhere. No wonder why their empire crumbled. It's only a matter of time before we end up falling too.
>>17433323It was only dark for the subversive rats who from the time of the fall of their first attempt at world dominion was thwarted (rome) to the destruction of the church were nearly driven to extinction.
>I don't see what the problem isMost people are illiterate on the basics of the Medieval period so they aren't aware about the complete collapse of literary output and civilizational institutions that occurred during the Dark Ages. This is where the term "Dark Ages" originates, in the 14th-century "caeculum obscurum" (lit. "obscure era"), as the lack of texts meant knowing what the fuck was going on at the time was difficult.

>>17433323>Dark ages were real>Suddenly books, art, new architecture appears in parts of Europe which had not had itSo... The "dark ages" only applies to a small area of western Europe which can be called Italy, France and Spain. So if a term doesn't cover the majority of the region it is describing it isn't valid.
>>17434245Si the Greek Dark Ages don't exist because it only covers Greece? I'd say when most people refer to the Dark Ages they are almost always referring to Western Europe.

>>17433323It's called the "dark ages" because of the lack of written records, not because it was a bad time.
