Picking a fight with the states that had actually industrialized while most of yours didn't even have a standard interstate rail line gauge to make shipping men/equipment around without having to unload it every other stop. Lee's men were on short rations just outside of Richmond at one point. The South was unbelievably unprepared to wage a lengthy war with the North and it was only thanks to McClellan being a retard and Lee being a mastermind of defensive fortifications that dragged the war out for as long as it was.
