Couldn’t he have just become painter on his own without art school?
How'd that work out for Van Gogh?
>>17434870You go to art school for networkingIf you don't, your best shot is becoming famous 100 years after you die
>>17434870>The patients were gathered in a little hall and the pastor, so Hitler recalled, “seemed all a-tremble as he informed us that the House of Hohenzollern should no longer bear the German imperial crown; that the Fatherland had become a ‘republic.’ ” As the aged speaker eulogized the services rendered by the Hohenzollerns, he “began to sob gently to himself—in the little hall the deepest dejection settled on all hearts, and I believe not an eye was able to restrain its tears.”>The pastor went on to say that the war must now be ended, that all was lost and they had to throw themselves upon the mercy of the victorious Allies. To Hitler the revelation was intolerable. “It became impossible for me to sit still one minute more. Again everything went black before my eyes; I tottered and groped my way back to the dormitory, threw myself on my bunk, and dug my burning head into my blankets and pillow.”>It was the rst time he had wept since standing at his mother’s grave eleven years earlier (she had died in agony of cancer), in the churchyard of the Austrian village of Leonding. He had borne the fear of blindness “in dull silence,” endured the loss of so many good comrades. “But now I could not help it. Only now did I see how all personal suering vanished in comparison with the misfortune of the Fatherland.” Out of his black despair came a decision. “The great vacillation of my life, whether I should enter politics or remain an architect, came to an end. That night I resolved that, if I recovered my sight, I would enter politics.” There was no medical reason for Hitler’s second blindness and Dr. Forster was reinforced in his initial conclusion that his patient was denitely “a psychopath with hysterical symptoms.” Hitler, however, was convinced that he was permanently blind.
>The shame of Germany’s surrender on November 11 in the forest of Compiègne overwhelmed him. Life seemed unbearable, but that night, or the next, Hitler was abruptly delivered from his misery, as he lay in despair on his cot, by a “supernatural vision” (perhaps deliberately induced by Dr. Forster). Like St. Joan, he heard voices summoning him to save Germany. All at once “a miracle came to pass”—the darkness encompassing Hitler evaporated. He could see again! He solemnly vowed, as promised, that he would “become a politician and devote his energies to carrying out the command hehad received.”>That night in the lonely ward at Pasewalk the most portentous force of the twentieth century was born. Politics had come to Hitler, not Hitler to politics.-John Toland, Adolf Hitler
>>17434876Well, he became even more famous than any painter will ever be.
if you see his paintings they seem nice at first but if you look closer you realise the shades are wrong, the colour scheme is generally boring and he painted over and over the same subjects. i wouldnt say he's a "bad" artist but not someone who could live off of it
>>17434870Like a lot of people on 4chan think one random change in life would make them happy artschool was just some shit he thought would fix his life and give it purpose. He applies for it twice, first time he didnt practice a lot and second he barely did it at all. The underlying issue was a lack of executive functions that he didn't get till he got prescribed "vitaminen"
>>17434870Even if he did get into art school, he would still have been drafted into WWI, Germany would have still been stabbed in the back by Jews, he would have still ended up an impoverished veteran in Weimar-era Munich where art didn't pay. Though it is remarkable how much luck played into his rise, he was literally a nobody junior member of an upstart socialist party in Munich and the other members didn't think he would be able to pull-off a good public speech, they only let him get on stage during a beer hall meeting because they were getting desperate, then Hitler unexpectedly pulled off a great speech and they got a bunch of new members and donors, that's when Hitler started to develop some clout as a speaker and climb through the party ranks, it was all very unplanned and improbable.
>>17435188>Even if he did get into art school, he would still have been drafted into WWIBut for the Austrian army which would lead to very different results. Fighting for the German Empire is what got him to lose his Austrian citizenship, in this case he would be stuck in Austria.
>>17435208He applied to the Academy of Arts in Vienna and was rejected in 1907, by 1914 he would have long since graduated if he had gotten in. He was still a pan-German nationalist and would have likely still relocated to Munich to work, where he would still volunteer for the Bavarian army.
>>17435188Isn't that the case for every Great Man in history? Napoleon and Caesar also had an insane amount of luck, especially in the beginning of their careers
>>17435055Plot twist: Hitler's entire political career & the war were all just an elaborate publicity stunt to promote his art.
>>17435269I gotta respect the hustle ngl
>>17435188He wasn't a nobody junior member; he was a spook who was told to infiltrate it and went rogue.
>>17434870he was a professional artists, just that the only art he ever sold was postcard covers.
