Did my guy here really give up being king just so he could marry her? Or was there really some deeper reason? I could maybe understand if she was young and hot, but she was used goods, and also just look at her. Was there any other reason that the powers that be in England at the time would have wanted his brother on the throne instead? I assume 1936 was too early for the nazi stuff to be a concern.
>>17437527>Or was there really some deeper reason? She was reputedly unbelievable in the bedroom, lots of David's (Edward VIII's) friends later said that he had intimated as much to them. She could apparently edge him to a degree that he found unbelievable. At least one of them thought she must have learned such techniques in China, though I'm not sure how true that is. >I assume 1936 was too early for the nazi stuff to be a concern. You assume wrongly, that was the entire concern. The intelligence files are all public information now, Wallis was an agent of Ribbentrop's and the British security services knew it almost from the beginning. David, naturally, knew nothing but IIRC they weren't sure if he was serving the Nazis willingly or not.The British establishment knew it was going to go to war with the Nazis a long time before Molotov-Ribbentrop, it just didn't feel the armed forces were strong enough to do so.
>>17437721It was known almost as soon as Hitler gained power in 1933 that war was coming.
>>17437721I should say that my source on these things is Charles Higham's biography, which I read some years ago.
>>17437725Indeed. He wasn't exactly masquerading as a peacenik, despite online wehraboos' repeated protestations to the contrary.
>>17437725Some may even argue that FDR's centralization of the US economy was war preparations for what everyone knew was coming.
>>17437733or even Stalin's actions brutal as they were were war preparations of a kind. everyone knew Hitler was going to do what he did and he was never exactly subtle about it. it was not like WW1 where it just happened quickly with no real prior warning signs and took everyone by surprise.
>>17437721>one of them thought she must have learned such techniques in ChinaI learned to edge from a book on Taoist sexuality so this is probably true. I also move my sexual energy. It feels very weird.
