This isn't the bronze age. The Nile surrounded by desert isn't valuable now. Egypt was only relevant when agricultural economies were dominant. In the modern era they don't even have that since their population so big that they're a net importer of foodstuff. The only thing they have that's valuable is the Suez Canal but they still can't dominate from it since it's dependent on trade flowing through it so they can't make demands otherwise people will take the other route from the cape of good hope. Egypt as a country is dependent on tourism, the suez, and american aid. Granted it didn't have to be this way but when you continue to be ruled by incompetents it's what you get. Either way it's delusional to think they would be a great power if their language was slightly different. They should have just forced contraception on the population.
