Historically speaking why aren't the welsh given the most blame for the brutal treatment of the irish, rather than the english? The anglo saxons and irish, aside from various raids, had pretty good relations prior to the norman conquestWelsh Cambro Normans were the first "english" to colonise and invade ireland. Walsh is one of the most common surnames in ireland and these cambro normans would be the ones adminstering the pale and other colonised regionsThe welsh tudors would later be the ones to truly embark on a full conquest of ireland, with henry the eights invasion and elizabeth's conquests, and later on James, a stuart and a welsh breton by ancestry whose family line only came back to britain with the norman invasion would plant ulster with scottish and english protestants and control ireland in its entirety.Other notorious figures in irish history such as trevelyan were of brittonic welsh cornish ancestryIt seems to me that the "english" conquest of ireland was really just a war between gaels vs britons with anglos being used as mercenaries
>>17440108I'm from Ireland and I live in England currently, and have met a lot of Welsh people. Irish and Welsh are a lot closer than Welsh and English or Irish and English. The English are a lot more "proper" whereas the Irish and Welsh are more "rough and ready". Even though they might seem similar, even the Norf FC grug English don't really share the same "essence" the Irish and Welsh do. The Welsh routinely got fucked with by the English as bad as the Irish did too, although they gave as good as they got for a long time. I know this is all just my opinion and "vibes" but that's the general sense of things as far as I see it.
>>17440108Irish people that actually know history don’t blame the English in particular, just the British in general. The English, the Welsh, the Scots, they were all up to dodgy shit. As were a large number of traitorous Irishmen. The idea of exempting the Welsh and the Scots comes mainly from foreigners that think British=English and back import their ideas to ignorants in Ireland.
>>17440108>why aren't the welsh given the most blame for brutal treatment of the irish, rather than the English>welsh cambro normans were the first to invade, after allNo. Diarmait Mac Murchada petititoned the King of *England* for support to attack Ruaidrí Ua Conchobar, the High King of Ireland. The King of *England* said he had his permission to seek aid from various soldiers or mercenaries in England. He found this support in the first batch of Normans that invaded; Richard de Clare being the most famous.Later, Henry II, King of *England* intervened, acting on existing intentions (both of Henry II and of the Catholic Church in England) to invade the island. The end result was the creation of the Lordship of Ireland, a papal fief, granted by the pope to the Plantagenet *Kings of England.*Children are able to understand this. Why can't you, OP?
>>17440150Norf FC grug English and the Welsh are virtually identical in mentality and cultural environs. What you’re noticing is not really an Irish or British thing, but a posh faggot vs normal lad thing, it just so happens posh faggots primarily concentrate in the south of England. But you will find them all over the place, they have second homes in Wales, they have well paid positions in Dublin, even some suburbs of Belfast have major posh faggot energy, anyone who goes to university will meet them, you will even meet their slacking failsons at non-ancient institutions.
