did French revolutionaries support colonialism? especially those in post-napoleonic times. I'm curious about, for example, the 1848 revolution. Was there any actual political cohesion or was it just seething? Did they support freedom for frenchies but not for darkies?
Naturally, we all know both French revolutions had no actual "positive" impact on anyone-instead sparking conflicts that other nations, like Britain, would solve. But everyone seems to pretend these guys were good, or that they had some great plan. Say, for example, they succeeded and the 2nd Republic survived instead of being instantly couped by another Bonaparte. What sort of nation would that have been?
