cozy architecture and environments.
so, Europe then
>>4871440ideally people would fill the thread with a wide variety, but ill take anything given how slow the thread is.
>>4870917That street looks like a fps map, very eerie. Where is it?
>>4870924this is brutalism, this is not cozy.most of the stuff here is not cozy.
>>4871874cozy was maybe not the right word. interesting, neat, cool would've been better.>>4871833dunno where its from, but maybe russia. got it from a reference pack that seemed to contain a lot of slavic looking buildings.
>>4871953>maybe russiaIt really looks like a cardboard movie set, the proportions are weird, the lamp posts are weird, the pavement is weird. All of it looks alien
>>4870910Grew up just a few roads south of what is shown in the picture, ask me anything
>>4872531what's life like there?
>>4872532It's arguably the best city in the world apart from the fact that it's boring as shit. Clean, nice, tidy, fresh water everywhere, absolutely zero crime, public transport everywhere etc. You really sense that this city has known nothing but peace since 1289.Bern is the de facto capital of Switzerland and most people work for the government. They usually live very secluded, private lives and are blissfully unaware of all the fucked up shit going on in the world. Still, there is a distinctly depressed and slow vibe going on here that people from outside find bizarre.
>>4872645gorgeous
>>4874961wheres this?
I think this counts as quirk.
>>4875007Internet says Best Korea but I have no other sources to confirm.
>>4871953>>4872052It is an open air movie set, part of Mosfilm.Mosfil'movskaya Ulitsa, 1 cтpoeниe 53, Moskva, Russia, 119285Unfortunately Google Street View is from 2014, and the set in your pic was built later (maybe 2017?).You can kind of pick it out from the 2024 satellite imagery. From the address marker, just W is the rotunda, and just SW of that are the three pediments/gables. The image is taken facing NE.
>>4878078Thank you! Well, my instinct wasn't wrong then
Aztec palace courtyard at the city of Chalco, Scott and Stuart Gentling/Rights held by the Amon Carter MuseumWhile not based on a specific archeological palace excavations, the Gentlings draw influence here both from:- Ruins, such as the Palace compounds and their murals at Teotihuacan (the tree in the mural is very clearly from Teotihuacano examples), possibly also at Chimalhuacan, Cihuatecpan, Mitla, etc. - Artifacts: The ceramics on the ground are based on real surviving specimens, while the bird on the mural is drawn from painted Teotihuacano ceramics and possibly mural fragments, with the geometric patterns on the wall moulding beneath the mural IIRC coming from ceramic stamps- Manuscripts, like the palace layouts seen in the Codex Mendoza, the stools, mats, etc seen in the Codex Borgia and similar documents. Some of the architectural accents also draw from the Borgia and other codices- Textual accounts from Conquistadors, such as Cortes's Letters, Bernal Diaz's account, the Anonymous Conqueror (which can be found translated for free here: http://www.famsi.org/research/christensen/anon_con/index.html) this particular piece seems to be heavily influenced by Cortes's and Bernal Diaz's description of the palaces at Iztapalapan
>>4870915looks like where they filmed the radio station scenes for that canadian movie pontypool.

>>4881221that leftmost drainpipe makes no sense
>>4881224>that leftmost drainpipe makes no senseDiverts the rain runoff from the windown below.
>>4881873would that really be an issue? theres already a bit of lip to the roof.
>>4874962I see at least 10 VWs in this photo, and a shitton chevys and mustangs.Looks like my HS parking lot in the mid-80s. LOL.
>>4886391Which game?
>>4888881one of the commandos games. commandos 2 probably. i think thats supposed to be colditz castle/prison
>>4881881If the water just poured off the roof, wind would cause it to spray over the wall, which would be bad - it would damage the wall and lead to moss growing. The drainpipe ensures that the water reaches the ground without getting on the building.
>>4897502>>4896301anyone know what those vertical metal bars on the walls are for?
>>4874962I like seeing shit like this or anything else with cozy American neighborhoods/homes in the background.
>>4897576Those metal rods are wall anchors. The purpose of these anchors is to secure the beams that the floors of houses rest on. They provide strength, ensuring everything is firmly in place. Additionally, they prevent the walls from bulging out due to the pressure from the floors. Some new houses here use them as decoration but they forget what the original use was. They are often put on unrealistic places where there's no floor on the inside.
>>4898173thank you kindly. googling the term wall anchor led me to this image on wikipedia, which illustrates the function of the wall anchors, the circular end pieces being the equivalent of the metal rods on the exterior of castle rumbeke. neat stuff!

>>4906254>>4906255just read about it, brown building is from like 300 AD and was a roman palace and then later on became a church, the bishop wanted to live next to the church so they built his palace connected to it. kinda wack but what can u do
the ruling class does what it wants and sometimes theyre a bit daft
