How much time should It take to reach the level of pic related (as someone who's a beg with shit fundamentals) and which resources do you recommend to study? Even if I don't enjoy NSFW art much, I really envy the attention to detail and hatching alongside his intuitive sense of volume and anatomy.
Also, would you consider this more of an intermediate or advanced level?
Thanks for the help

Is learning how to go straight for a similar level of detailing like this as far as possible despite having poor fundamentals and skill convenient at all btw? Or is it better to first get better at drawing in a more simpler style when I'm not grinding

Here's how my art currently looks like.
I've only drawn on and off since 2020 or so and didn't study much fundies at all, but I can't stand how my art looks like and want radical changes alongside forcing myself to study fundies and draw everyday.

The main things the other person you posted has over you is
1. better understanding of the forms that make up the human body
2. better understanding of how to communicate those forms in 2d
3. better control and use of line weight
4. higher OCD levels for the detailing stuff
You can work on 1-3 by just practicing more. For 4 just pop an adderall.
>>
>>7117125
study lineweight and try harder perspectives. you have decent enough anatomy so you could easily make pieces like OP in a year or so from where you're at, just dont expect to make it in the same timeframe as someone who sketches like >>7117109
i would also say work on your faces and hair as theyre not the most appealing, dont be afraid to reference.

messy linework with good form > clean linework with bad form

Do master copies of artists who's style you like. Old habits die hard though. Maybe you need a project that will keep you drawing in a style you like for a while, away from happy go lucky 90s comedy anime and into 80s dark fantasy

not too long, in my opinion, strictly talking about inking, because once you know enough to have sufficient control of the process, something like inking motifs are more like recipes.

Something to consider when you try to analyze their inking:
1. identify difference in thicker lines and thinner lines, and where specifically they place them.
2. identify hatch marks, and note where they are located, are they use for shading or used to indicate presence of the surfaces and textures.
3. consider how they control the density of the hatch marks and identify the difference in effect between them.
4. spotting, or large area of black shadings, note where they making those darker shadings, and considering why they make those choices.

Consider your current control of the inking, I personally think the example you provided is well within reach, no more than a month of practice once you get what are doing, but inking isn't always automatic process, sometimes you gotta thinking about each line you are placing down and why they are there until it becomes a second nature. Although I'll note that this person seems imitate different styles, like the first image they seems to imitate the facial features of Chiba Toushirou, and that has not been repeated in later drawings. I felt that the anime furry art style might be their typical art style on example 3 and 4.

You really shouldn't seek to totally achieve other people's look anyway, think about what type of art you want to make and express and come up with what you think its the most effective way to communicate it.

You have to study better and more often, just like any athlete or professional.

Finally an actual answer!
>identify difference in thicker lines and thinner lines, and where specifically they place them.
Here's an example of how I'm trying to evolve my inking as of now.
While making all the outlines thicker and everything else half the size/weight seems to be a step in the right direction, I feel like it could also hurt my progress in the long run and make my art feel symbol-like. Do you believe applying heavy hatching and textures to metallic/rougher objects like the armor, the shield and the sword would even fit without making it look too "busy"?
Granted I wouldn't consider this to be the best example since it's just the lineart of a finished piece rather than a full blown ink drawing.

Any tips on how to significantly improve my faces and intuitive volume/perspective as well outside of inking? I hate how flat my art generally looks and to actually give it form and volume I'm planning to just draw more from life and, unironically, doing Drawabox and actually finishing it.

The dude I posted has a really intuitive feel for perspective and making his characters feel organic and "3D" unlike my current art.

I felt that thicker line is dominating in a way that I would only use it on the very outer edge of the figure, just so I can distinguish her from the background. Personally I generally use more nuanced line within the figure. In terms of how much hatching you wanted to do is entirely up to your preference in my opinion, sometimes looking "busy" was the point, but I don't do it very often because I draw my figure with one eye to color or using other method of conveying values or shadings.Since you can ink digitally try experimenting on a different layer and see if you can find an effect that you like.

In terms facial volumes, probably beyond the scope of my abilities right now but I thought Excel's times were quite useful.
https://youtube.com/shorts/IhiWXjTmA3k?si=4GaPfmrEsc-2Rt6H

in order to draw intuitively you probably need to find more reference and study what you wanted to draw, like looking at actual plate armor and study them, learn what parts of them are called and what they look like from different angles, and over time it becomes more intuitive as you internalized the subject you were studying. Although to be honest I personally had always been pretty half assed about it. haha...
