I see David Finch shilling this book and i wondered where the fuck are discussions about it? If you could would you recommend it to a beg?
>>
>>7134362
a beg wont learn shit from it.

false

/ic/ has irrational hatred of capeshit, but this book is unironically more beg friendly than fwap
>>
>>7134373
2 questions
How is exactly more friendly than FWAP
And why hate capeshit? Isn't this full of weebs and japs have their own capeshit?
Btw i barely read either
Only dbz and one piece, on capeshit few issues of old ditko spiderman
>>

I skimmed through it after seeing Finch recommend it, didn't seem to offer anything too special, it's yet another simple baby' learns drawing book. I guess if you wanna draw 60s era looking capeshit it might be a better start than something more neutral.
>>
It's good for its intended purpose, which is to introduce /beg/ artists to basic artistic concepts like perspective, gesture/construction, and composition. The book itself (at least my copy) even has an index of recommended books in the back for further study. I would definitely recommend it.

post the index pls

NTA but
>Anatomy
Bridgman, Hogarth
John Vanderpoel - The Human Figure
>Composition
Ralph Fabri - Artists' Guide to Composition
Donald W. Graham - Composing Pictures
Ernest Watson - Composition in Landscape and Still Life
>Perspective
Rex Cole - Perspective for Artists
>Animal Drawing
Jack Hamm - How to Draw Animals
Hugh Laidman - Animals: How to Draw Them
>Misc/Philosophy/Mood
just a bunch of stan lee books
>>
It sucks honestly. Its perspective lessons early on are orthogonal projections or whatever the fuck, they threw my /beg/ friend way off after he learned some basic perspective theory and it became really hard for me to take it seriously from that point on.

Its a good /beg/ book. But you wont get out of beg with this book, you need to move to someome like loomis or bridgman for the next step

>cute anime girls, not [...] voluptuous women
The only difference in the drawings between these "voluptuous women" and anime girls is the face. The bodies are the same. The face does not make them "voluptuous" at all.

Anything of value this book covers, fun with a pencil does it better. Plus, capeshit art is ugly
>>
>>7134362
It has very well summarized basic concepts, from construction, gesture, perspective, then it also has things for capeshit such as the organization of vignettes, covers, visual impact, etc. etc., but yes, it is highly recommended for someone starting out.

>Plus, capeshit art is ugly
Have you actually read FWAP? The blooks are fucking hideous.
>>
>>7136026
Yes but that is not the endgame of FWAP, the endgame of OP is drawing ugly capeshit art
>>
>>7134379
FWAP is ugly asf to look at and beginners are either forced to copy an extremely unappealing style or forced to improvise before having the necessary skills to do so successfully
The Marvel Way covers the same topics with an easily replicable style that is actually appealing in regards to drawing attractive and heroic looking characters
>>
>>7134362
i remember threads on it. im sure ive got some stupid drawings based on the compositions later on due to some silly thread challenge.

Even Buscema hated drawing capeshit
>>
>>7134362
Capeshit art looks ugly as sin. Just read Morpho and/or Hampton instead
>>
>>7136234
Morpho and Hampton both have some pretty hideous art to be fair. Let's not pretend anyone gets those books for the beautiful drawings.

Yeah, if he had his way he would've just drawn Conan the rest of his life, he loved drawing Conan books.
>>
>>7134362
I rember using it when i was young it had good stuff on dynamic posing and composition pretty decent for a /beg/ i'd say.
>>
>>7134362
Its way better than a lot of YouTube tutorials, so yeah, i wish i had this book back in 2021
