Is it worth pursuing? I'm an amateur cartoonist at best but I know how to make smooth animation and appealing simple designs. I could always go into nursing or something but I feel like I'd be missing out on working in a creative field. Please tell me there's hope because I'd like to believe I can make it.
>>7134830NoUnironically give upI wish I did and now I think about roping daily. I never had what it took to become an animator. Now I'm a skill less autist scrabbling through uni in hope of getting a decent degreeIf this fails I'm ropingPic rel not mine
>>7134833>>7134830But then again, you could actually have skill unlike me
>>7134830You're going to miss out on something no matter what path you take in lifeAnything worth having is difficult to acquireif you you want to animate as your dream then get better at it to the point where you can do something with itIt all depends how many responsibilities you have now depending on what's viableif you have kids or something big then you probably shouldn't pursue if it could cost you and their healthI'd say anything is possible if you're smart about it and have the time for it
>>7134830>>7134833>>7134834>>7134838Man I sure love these larp threads where nobody ever posts any of their work out of "fear of being associated with 4chan" and its all just a whole lot of "trust me bro"
>>7134834>>7134843Give me like two hours for me to animate something. Pretty much all of the animation I've done is gone.
>>7134843what do you want to hear anon?you will fail at everything you do so don't even try?or do you need evidence that you're on the right path?
You're better off asking animators on newgrounds or twitter than making a thread on /ic/.
>>7134830>Please tell me there's hopeNigga go to >https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/Sort by top of the last 1 year and give up.There's a lot of animators out of a job right now because of strikes, AI and Netflix and other streaming giving up on animation altogether.
>>7134830Give up and beat the shit out of your parents for telling you to "follow your dreams"Not even kidding
>>7134922>https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/Since you probably don't believe me, here's a top post talking about this:https://www.reddit.com/r/animationcareer/comments/1abtju1/to_those_struggling_to_find_jobs_right_now/?sort=topIt's bleak for animators right now.
>>7134923angry every single day for my parents throwing me into society. what were they thinking
>>7134947Art careers never pan out periodHonestly don't even try
>>7134961This.It's such a lottery that it feels cruel even recommending it
>>7134969I tell people to pursue art as a career as a kind of sick attempt to hurt them and perpetuate my own suffering to a new generation. Like "hahaha, you will know my pain, you stupid cunt."It's part of the cycle of abuse and I just can't stop."Can I learn to draw like you?""YEAH SURE KID GO RIGHT AHEAD ANYONE CAN MAKE IT."I then try to guide them on a journey in which they make every single one of my mistakes.
>>7134996Holy based crab
>>7134845>I know how to make smooth animation and appealing simple designsPost your work or shut up, faggot.
>>7134830Like the game industry, animation is infected with parasites who want to exploit your work and only see you as a vending machine.
>>7134830The only way to be successful in animation is to exploit people who are younger and dumber than you. Every big, successful youtube animator has a team of artists (storyboarders, character and prop designers, background, etc.) doing all the hard shit for pennies. So, uh, learn how to manipulate large groups of people and you too can be successful!
>>7134830just make youtube animations while having a real job?
>>7134833>unironicallyFound the underage retard. Your "advice" is worthless.
>>7136160Yeah. Implied this is the first time through university AFTER "trying" at art? Unless they are 30 or something. >>7134830Advice for you op, listen to all the people saying you can't do it. If it takes the wind out of your sails, they are probably right, but if you still really feel like you have to do this, do it. Don't wait around doing nothing to decide. Decide now, and do it. Make something and put it on newgrounds or some shit, do something. >>7134928Yeah I'm in school for animation right now. Not sure exactly what do do, but if I end up jobless after graduation I am going to do a full on independent production to see if that does anything for me, and if it doesn't in a year I will probably look into whatever manual labor jobs don't require any specific skills, and just apply to animation stuff on the side.
>>7134830The Animation Guild has a pension plan. Does the other thing you would do instead have a pension plan?
>>7134922They're getting jobs now they're just being tight lipped about it because they've been scarce lately so everyone's trying to line up 2-3 things before broadcasting it
>>7136167Make porn animation and get patreon bucks or something
>>7134830I found this person on Instagram yesterday. Guess her resume?Cartoon Network, Mattel, Dreamworks, Lackadaisy, Warner Bros, Laughing Dragon and several others. So OP, I'd say you'd be just fine.
>>7134833>give up lmao>btw I'm a skillless autist in uni >pic rel not minethis is how you can tell the advice is shit. if he fell for the college scheme, chances are, he’s not very smart. Follow your dreams, OP
>>7134830>Animation >In westranny Are you retarded?
>>7136320eurotrash hands wrote this post
>>7136307This is Raphael-tier compared to some of the shit I've seen coming out
It's your life and it's up to you how you choose to live it.
I’d rather just make fan animations and get fanbox money if I can’t work on anime than spend 4 years working on the next installment of Louder & Annoying or Total Dramalama. That would just make me hate art altogether.
>>7136326Genuinely, and I mean this with full seriousness, how do these /beg/s keep getting jobs?I know they "market themselves" but with skills like that how do you even set up the contacts, let alone not get kicked out of the building?
>>7136352Idk, but Ive always thought a big part of it was living/studying in a place where there are actual studios. You gotta know the right people.
>>7136374Friendship is getting in the way of quality control.
>>7136167I'm 29 actually.I'm the "unironically" anonI have failed at everything and need to rope
>>7136352>>7136374>>7136389Nepotism. You don't just have to grow up in the right place, you need the right family with the right background and the right income, then go to the right school and say the right things about the right politics to the right people. THEN, and ONLY THEN can you get in. People throw "CalArts" around for a reason, though that place is just a sliver of the problem.
>>7136292I wonder how viable this actually is.So I decided to pursue this for one year just to see.
>>7134947Toniko Pantoja, a professional animator, said something similar. >Don't be a one trick pony and adapt.
>>7134996I know you're trolling but plenty of people outside of art do something like that. They recommend others to marry and have kids even tho they're miserable in their marriage and hate their kids.
>>7136148There's a webtoon guy that do the same shit, he's got a team of artists doing the hard work for pennies while he collect 6 figures on Patreon.
>>7136167>if I end up jobless after graduation I am going to do a full on independent production to see if that does anything for meYou should start building a following right now instead of after graduation, that's what Vivziepop did, and you can see that in her Tumblr posts from a decade ago.
>>7136307Her art is bad but since she's a woman I don't think her art skills got her gigs but her blowjob skills.
>>7136347>spend 4 years working on the next installment of Louder & Annoying or Total Dramalama.I know an animator from Ireland that only animate children shows and he hates his job because he's a weeb.
