For the head shape, yeah it is bigger in the 2nd attempt because I was kind of going for more horny. This isn't the full process with pic related, but usually when I make the gesture, I tend to have a more simplified shape for the head, which is what I used for the 1st Otter. 2nd Otter's head was more deformed to be human like, and to check my work I actually looked at the BNA model sheets.

Her jaw is also set very far away from her throat, making the lower half of her head look detatched. Her mouth looks crooked to, like her left sude is drooping. Just pull the head back so the skull sits properly on her spine, get rid of the armpit squish, pull up her left lip, and you're all good.

I think they might be too saturated, or leaning to the wrong side of their respective hues; everything seems to lean towards blue, and that tends to produce a colder, sickly kind of look. Try my strategy above, but make it an orange, red color. See if that helps. Or just use a correction layer and hue shift it.

At best art school is a networking opportunity, at worst you get a degree from full sail and your resume and application are immediately tossed in the trash.As an anecdote, I was in a community college 3d modeling class that I took for fun, and one of my classmates was a wizard of the medium. He was hired in the industry before even completing his certificate, over multiple other applications from people with expensive degrees from high profile art schools, because his work was self evidently amazing and he didn’t need a piece of paper on his wall to prove it.I spent one semester at a well known art school and it sucked ass. There was very little actual instruction and a pretense that you already knew what was being taught. There was a real sink or swim aspect in that the students who sank either went in without a fully established background in the subjects they were teaching (or just slacked off), and the students who swam already knew everything or had enough money to graduate regardless of their work ethic or talent.I left and honestly I’ve had a much more productive education pirating skillshare courses and art books than I ever did there. The lack of crippling debt is also nice.

Anyone got any tips for colors? I'm not quite set on the face markings, I might change them around a bit. But I do want the darker "sleeves" pattern contrasted with the rest of his body being light colors. Also, this is my first time painting with color and I have no idea what I'm doing.

So I'm wondering, how often do you copy/study your inspirations? And do you find it helpful?I only ask cause whenever I try to copy a drawing I like for of their style, I never feel like I'm learning anything. To me just seeing it is enough. And using that inspiration from seeing said drawing, and then doing your own thing.
