What are the pros and cons of being an anonymous artist?
>>
pros: draw whatever you want without affecting real life, no pressure from people to ask you for things/free work irl

cons: harder to network or get collaborations/industry work, commissions can also be difficult to set up

Pro: You can make controversial points without fear of repercussion
Con: You can't really monetise from it, unless you're very careful, in which case the original pro is now no longer true - you'll always be looking over your shoulder fearing a doxxing. This can also be the case, even without monetisation, if you've been a retard (see stonetoss).

Pros: nobody can bother you
Cons: you are nobody
>>
Pros: I value my personal space a lot, so I feel more comfortable knowing that I'm anonymous and can hide behind a persona.
Cons: hard to network your way into industry (I don't give a fuck personally, wasn't going to).
Bansky is a fat bitch.

OP here. As an artist, I personally want to remain anonymous because I want to be known and remembered for my work instead of going Hollywood. I also don’t want to be known for just ONE fluke.

It depends on the medium and the message meant to be disseminated through it. I post my stuff regularly, and have a distinctive style, and its getting stranger, yet I am just another anon. But I think that you are thinking more of a Banksy random graffiti. However clever,it is still graffiti, unwanted, uninvited, interfering with the artistic vision of the architect, who didn't account for the whims of attention seekers. As an art form, I respect graffiti, its stylization when its authors bother to give it some. But you can't make a buck from hard work when it's on a wall, unless as a sanctioned mural. Some smarter ones paint directly on tshirts while you wait, but in the age of mass production as required to fulfill orders, that is impractical.

BANKSY is a hack but I don’t care what is or isn’t art anymore.
