do this
>people on /ic/ are unironically recommend blind contours nowhow far will you guys fall?
>>7153223pyw crabby
>>7153227a drawing I did with my mouse on /i/can you feel my power level? I bet you can. I bet you're trembling.
>>7153223this isnt a blind contour dumbass, you're closing one eye to remove depth perception and flatten what you're seeing, this is a classic technique that has been around since before you were born
>>7153231>Try "drawing blind" at least three or four times as you workyou didn't read the op pic
>>7153232CLOSE ONE EYE, TRY "DRAWING BLIND" (IN QUOTATIONS TO EMPHASIZE THAT IT ISNT LITERAL AND DEPENDANT ON THE CONTEXT OF THE INFORMATION GIVEN TO YOU IN THE LITERAL SENTENCE BEFORE IT)I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU FUCKERS CANT HANDLE LOOMIS NOW, YOU LITERALLY HAVE ZERO READING COMPREHENSION.
>>7153234how do you draw blind in a figurative sense, retard? He's telling you to look at the hand and not the drawing. That's blind contour drawing.
It turned out a bit more grotesque than I'd imagined my hand being, but I still had fun with it.
>>7153245you're actually fucking braindead. if you think the author is telling you to hold your hand out of sight and just draw what you think it looks like, youre legitimately, genuinely, an unintelligent person. You fucking hold it within eyesight with one eye closed and your paper within your field of view behind it, then draw the flattened version of your hand.I was angry a second ago because I thought you were being intentionally obtuse but I think you might actually be a dumb person. If you're gonna be stupid then you can't be rude, have to pick one.
>>7153253*or look at the hand with the paper out of sight.
>>7153253>>7153254you still haven't explained what "drawing blind" meansyou're just imposing your own understanding onto the exerciseAt the end of the day, the fact is, you're dumb for even studying Dodson in the first place. His art is bad, and your sense and taste for picking teachers is even worse. Good luck with your blind contour drawing though. I'm sure you'll get really good.
>>7153263alright man have a good one lol.
>>7153263not them, but>you're dumb for even studying Dodson in the first place. His art is badwhy would that matter? people can give good advice and not properly apply it to their own work.
>>7153268As an aside, I find the illustration in OP to be very charming
>>7153271I actually like them too. and when I was going through KtD they made me feel less hopeless about being able to learn from it. just because he's not on Steve Huston's level, say, doesn't mean there aren't valuable things in the book; and I would maintain that there are.
>>7153271>>7153274I think Dodson chose loose pen drawings in order to avoid overwhelming beginnersif you look at his illustration work, it's more controlled/precise
another example
>>7153193Is this really what filters people? the steep learning curve they talk about? He's just trying to break you out of symbol drawing and teach you to break what you see into curves and lines.the goal isn't to draw an photo-realistic hand.
>>7153649>Is this really what filters people? Not *entirely*. For me, it's expectations. Not getting the expected/desired outcome, even anything close to the expected/desired outcome, puts me in a defeatist mindset and I'm sure it's the same for loads and loads of other people.
>>7153263>you still haven't explained what "drawing blind" meansIt means make marks on the paper while looking at your hand, not the drawing. Fuck, dude. Go be retarded somewhere else.
>>7153193How many professional artists did this exercise?I mean alive artists not artists from 200 years ago.
>>7153671who would know that and why would it matter?
>>7153671professionals usually start drawing as kids and just never stoppedtheir observation skills grew naturallyhttps://youtu.be/T1CSclKBkmo?t=147
Why haven't you done this yet?
>>7153193What's the point of this shit? Showing that you are supposed to learn perspective and lighting? Because other than making you realize you don't know jackshit, it does fucking jackshit.
>>7154246>What's the point of this shit?>"One of the hardest things to do in drawing is to force yourself to follow your vision when it just doesn't look right. Drawing your own hand from an end view creates such a conflict. We "know" a hand must have fingers, and that those fingers must have a certain length. otherwise, as in this view, it "just doesn't look right." It doesn't match our preconceived hand symbol! It takes courage to stick to your vision in spite of how it looks. If you are to grow and develop as an artist, it is necessary to develop that courage."
>>7154266Bro. This is the art book's equivalent of AI padding a text with garbage.I hate art as a subject. I am teaching myself art per necessity, I want to give a try to reconstruct dinosaurs from fossils and shit, not for pay but because I just will it. I don't care about doing money with art, I don't care about passion for art, for me art is a tool for a stupid wish with very specific needs. And thus I can see the skill for what it is. A rather simple skill that can be trained in a straightforward way. Steady your hand. Learn perspective. Learn proportions. Visualize and give it a go. Trying to show off in a fucking book to beginners with zero skill is a dishonest parlor trick. And copying what you see isn't art anyways.
>>7154299>And copying what you see isn't artregardless of whether or not that's true, you're shifting the goal post. I'm not sure why you're going out of your way to write such a length post in the first place if the content of the OP isn't for you and you yourself seem to think the people here don't share your interest in art.
>>7153690>professionals usually start drawing as kids and just never stoppedAh so I'm fucked then
>>7154299post your work
>>7154735The dude from Love Life Drawing didn't start til his 30s. Which is nice to hear cause I'm also in my 30s.
>>7154735no, you just need to deliberately practice your observation and do stuff like OP's pic
>>7154779Trust me I've been doing that.Results aren't good.
KtD is the de facto most highly recommended starter book in the /beg/ threadswhy are people shitting on it?
Been drawing for about 6 months how'd I do
>>7154791you didn't follow the prompt, but this is nice.
>>7154792Crap, I just looked at my hand and didn't pay attention to posing my hand.. Ah well. Still fun.
>>7154787>KtD is the de facto most highly recommended starter book in the /beg/ threadsThat's probably the reason why, I know it's my reason for shitting on it
>>7154799Oh so you're just a gigantic gatekeeping faggot, now I get it.
>>7154860>Oh so you're just a gigantic gatekeeping faggot, now I get it.No I just fucking hate that people don't recommend anything else. I legit hate this book but every time I try and ask for alternatives they say "DUDE KTD LMAO"
>>7154885>I legit hate this book>No I just fucking hate that people don't recommend anything elsestrive for clarity and coherency in your speech
>>7154885dorian iten's accuracy videos and cheat sheet has the same info, summarizedbut you can know about plumb lines, measuring, negative shapes, flipping/mirroring, and block-ins, and still be shitaccuracy is 5% knowledge and 95% practice
>>7153193done
>>7153193>yeah bro trust me, keys to drawing is g-ACK!
>7154914What happened to your life that your go-to method of getting engagement is bad faith shitposting?
>>7154914>I-It's not my fault I suck, it's... the resource!
>>7154924>>7154927shut the fuck up and stay in /beg/, pawell
>>7154952argument: non-existent
Can someone who used this book post their current art?
hand was cramping up a bit mostly for the second one, but to be honest I also wasn't trying as hard as in the first
>>7155097Just head over to /beg/ and you'll see plenty of work from the average Keys to Sucking enjoyer!
>>7155406Why all the sudden hate for KTD? It used to be recommended regularly and held in high regard here.
>>7155097https://pawell2418.github.io/
good trolling. The author basically tells you to draw an asshole.
>>7154784Keep doing it. Seek to improve. Read art instruction books, pirate them if you don't want to risk wasting the money. Copy art from artists you like, as practice. You'll make it.
If someone posts Pawell works, it's clear that>They can't draw for shit>Pawell should stop grinding and draw more original pieces
>>7155539Keep seething you permabeg cocksucker
>>7155544Did the shoe fit, nigger?
>>7155505How much grinding did you do in between pieces? What kind of grinding did you do?
>>7155539Looks like they can draw pretty well, to me here >>7155505
>>7155654Not him, but he has a point. At this stage, Pawell should relax and do more original stuff, that would help a lot. The more you draw things you want to, more the knowledge sticks with you.
>>7155533It doesn't really feel like I will, people here keep saying that too
>>7155694Don't listen to them. This place is full of trolls and crabs who would have you believe "you either have it or you don't", that the ability to draw is innate, or that if you haven't been practicing since childhood then it's too late for you. They're wrong and salty because they're being held back by their own mindset. Anyone can draw, you just need to be willing to practice and learn.I went years thinking I'll never be able to draw, that it was too late for me, especially with my ADHD making it really fucking hard to stick to it and practice. Almost a decade later I realised, if I had started a decade ago, I could be pretty good by now. So I downloaded Keys to Drawing by Bert Dodson, that book that's shilled here pretty frequently. I didn't finish it of course, largely because of my executive dysfunction, but I went from stick figures to stuff that's actually kind of okay, and I can only improve from here, and that's just from two months of working on a book I never finished. You're no longer a child, so you probably don't have all day to draw like one would. Some work say that you missed out on years of practice. This is kind of true but also, now that you're an adult, you know how to learn much better than when you were a child. Instead of blindly stumbling through art and slowly, gradually improving as you learn naturally about lighting and perspective and stuff, you can actually read books on the subjects and improve much more rapidly. Please don't let idiots on 4chan be the reason you lose hope. In 10 years you'll wonder what could have been, and then probably think it's too late then too when it's never too late.
>>7156061Would say* fuck I'm dumb, but you get the point.
>>7155544He’s honestly right. He’s not attacking Pawell’s character. He’s just pointing out that Pawell is in no position to be giving anyone advice
>>7156061Thanks, like for real. Honestly a lot of what you said are exactly the same worries I have towards art.Gonna follow your advice and stop listening to them.
WOW JESUS FUCKING CHRIST NOBODY DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAINdrawing blind means YOU DRAW WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE PAPER AKA SCREENLESS TABLET MODE BUT INSTEAD OF SCREEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT YOUR HANDclosing one eye helps you with the foreshortening, doing this and drawing blind will get you better you better line quality and more hand eye coordination you fucking beg tardsno wonder nobody on ic can draw hands youre all about as good as ai
>>7156163>DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAINWrong book retard
>>7154914how do you intentionally, unironically, fuck up THIS badly??
>>7153193>stress accurate contourWhat exactly are "contours" and how do I learn to identify them? The boundaries of an object's silhouette seem to count as a contour, but beyond that I'm clueless.
>>7153229FtM
>>7156906TiF
>>7156887>contour>An outline, boundary or border, usually of curved shape>silhouette>An illustrated outline filled in with a solid color(s), usually only black, and intended to represent the shape of an object without revealing any other visual details
>>7158207Nice, did you made it with a marker pen?
>>7155511kek
I did this for a howie in the beg general
>>7158349I did it with a “micro fineliner” pen. I think the brand is Leto? Some Chinese shit I got on Amazon.
