Picrel makes me depressed, I'm clearly doing something wrong.

It's really not an abnormal amount of improvement for someone putting in consistent work. I'm not even talking about le 25hrs a day grind, just a solid 1 to 2 hours on most days of the week.

>It's really not an abnormal amount of improvement for someone putting in consistent work.
I just checked that person and the pic on right is their level after 1.5 year since they started drawing from zero.
They bought a few Coloso courses like Okku and Marc Brunet's course but most of what they know, they learned from watching Twitch and Youtube streams.
It's funny how a few comments said that they're drawing for 7~10 years and they're still on that guy level.
Permabegs are so pitiful.

That's just not even possible if you actually draw. People who say that must draw for like an hour every couple of months. Like unless you have an actual developmental handicap, you can figure out a lot of fundamentals just by putting in the work. Even something as rigid as a course isnt all that necessary.

Yeah, especially early on, putting any amount of work sees huge improvement, I have no fucking idea how anyone can stay at maximum beg longer than a couple months unless they absolutely never draw.

I been drawing for almost 6 years and I'm worse than OP's picrel. I draw every week (not every day tho) and I'm still shit so either I'm dumb, old or I have zero aptitude for drawing (most likely) To be fair it seems that artist actually watched his video courses instead of just hoarding so there's that.

I alternate between drawing from reference and drawing from imagination, if i ever get in a rut i draw requests from the Drawthreads, but the big thing is i rarely draw what i’m comfortable drawing. Also draw porn to really get some good figure drawing in

Im going to openly cheat and make the comparison line a little wider and I have a very good reason for that.

I will say, though, compared to a year ago, I've done improvements on my overall workflow and speed, now I can output pieces faster and draw more comfortably, it doesnt outright translate to an art skill overhaul, but it means a big change and we'll see where it takes me in the future.

Bingo. It's because they've never drawn that much, or whenever they draw they always draw the same thing using the same method, never trying anything new. No shit you won't get any gains if all you do is repeat the same ineffective shit.

I do keep my un-shaded lineless style, though, which is what I assume you like about the old one.

Colors can make or break art like picrel.

>>7162603
I'm gonna go with learning colour theory, I understand what you mean as my choice of colors aren't really working out as I'd hope. My values are also quite off but I'm gonna keep at it because I really want to introduce colour to my work.

>>7162547
You should work on your anatomy first.
The colors are ok for your current level but nothing to worry about --yet--.
>>
>>7162794
Thanks for the advice! Gotta really take the time to actually study anatomy. It seems to be one of the main parts that is bringing the quality down. Have to make a plan and grind the fundementals in between projects

Learn to construct and build bodies using shapes. This will elevate your drawings and skill. No need to do insane grind, just learn to use construction.

Anon the other guy is the real crab ITT if you don't work on your color theory and focus on anatomy then it'll take years to get out of /beg/ and when you do your art will look like picrel.
Color can turn mediocre art into decent art but it can also ruin good art like those DC recolorings.
>>
>>7162798
>Learn to construct and build bodies using shapes.
The crab gave some real advice here but otherwise ignore him.
>>
>>7162824
>DC recolorings
There's plenty of DC comics that were ruined because of a different colorist. You do you.
>>
>>7162824
Yeah I’m not really taking advice as 100% given. Like of course I’ll still use colour and draw bodies etc etc. I’ll never blindly follow advice without some of my own research and needs taken into account. Just gotta keep drawing

How much fundies grinding and studies of other artists did you guys had to do per day before your art significantly evolved? (Specifically asking people who were once stuck at high beg/low int stage for too much time, but eventually managed to progress further)

I've recently been picking up Keys To Drawing after years of not getting beyond the first 20 pages, and despite exclusively progressing through rote drawing for fun all this time, it's surprising I can understand the book and do exercises much more efficiently than I did back when I was a full blown beginner.
My ability of drawing from life/photos also improved as well despite spending the vast majority of my journey purely drawing from imagination with references for specific minor things, which is kinda nice.
