What steps can one take to pursue a career in art? Could you share your plan, including any resources, lectures, or strategies you recommend?

lol

Art has never been a good career choice and it's only getting worse in the future.
Get big on social media and draw commissions.

Start by shaving your body and getting a webcam

>be a woman (or fag)
>sleep with guy who is in the industry
Congratulations you are now an artist

just draw, try and make connections

you want to create a loyal audience who will pay you money. you need to make art first though.
I'm failing at making an audience miserably though so I might get a job as a Walmart greeter.

Actual answer:

If you want to get paid, you have to make things people want to pay you for.
This can be art that serves a purpose:
>production artwork
>pornography
>comic/game/animation, stuff that serves a story
>merchandise
Or art that's so damn good that it can't be denied:
>pinups/illustrations, paintings or animations
>just general "stuff that is cool" but serves no real purpose beyond that

Once you can make things people want to pay you for, you need to find the people to pay you for it. That can be:
>employer/commercial client (aka art jobs/freelance)
To find these, they can theoretically scout you but more realistically you gotta apply. It's just like working in any other industry, you find job listings and send in your application, or apply through referrals from previous clientele/employers. It's not unwise to keep a curated gallery on sites like artstation, just in the off chance a potential employer stumbles on your stuff and it fits the bill for what they're making.
>publisher (of a book, merch, whatever)
Again, typically you gotta apply but it's not unheard of publishers approaching artists. Same as above only they won't have listings, you just have to cold call the publisher with your pitch.
>independent clients (aka commissions)
With these guys you're much more dependent on them stumbling across you, though this is really up to you. If you think like a client you might be able to think of where a client might go if they want their... DnD character's portrait drawn, for example. There's rarely a one-stop-shop answer, so use your head or just wait patiently.

The biggest mistake I see people making is that they're making only "stuff that is cool" rather than anything that serves a purpose. Generic sfw anime fanart, pinups of their own OCs etc. There's little demand for these things. People disparage coom because it's "easy", but the reality is just that it serves a purpose and meets a demand. Think like that and you'll inevitably succeed.

I think you shouldn't pursue art career as a main job unless you're third worldies where you can live with 100-200 bucks. Big company won't hire small artists because AI are big thingy.

Especially if you draw only illustrations pinsup like "girl looking at viewer" which can replace easily by AI + touch up. but i think drawing comic, have storytelling or something THAT doesn't look like AI can be ok.

Good morning.

This post made me realize that its actually pointless for me to try, I dont meet a single criteria. Wow.
>>
>>7240726
What do you make?
>>
>>7240743
Ugly stuff, again, dont meet any of the criteria.
>>
>>7240753
Okay, but what is it? I was not attempting to make an exhaustive list up there.
>>
>>7240756
Closest I could list would be "stuff that is cool", except that its not cool and it looks bad.
>>
>>7240763
My man I think the bigger issue here is that you apparently can not put into words what the thing is, in the literal sense. Is it a drawing? An animation? Of what, exactly? I'm not asking about its quality, I am asking about the objective properties of the thing you created.
>>
>>7240768
Ahhh, yeah, Im stupid like that, sorry.
Drawings, I have done drawings.
>>
>>7240770
Then what's stopping you from doing different drawings? Don't say skill.
>>
>>7240771
Its LITERALLY skill, though, Im not good, so I dont get traction because that traction goes to the people better than me, thats quite literally how the world works.

Here's a thought: stop opening "how do I make money" threads if you can't implement any of the advice to start with.
>>
>>7240783
I didnt came here to argue, I just wanted to lurk, saw a post and posted an answer, thats it.
>>
>>7240788
I didn't mean that as an argument, but as advice. If skill is the issue then practice is the remedy, not browsing /ic/.

Thanks senpai.
