Are there any good sources for understanding artwork symbology? Pic related, obviously Death holding an hourglass is pretty self-explanatory but when I look at artwork from this era it feels like I'm missing a lot of clues.
>>7242542You should go to the /x/ board. In Youtube there's a lot of content about this thematic in the last years too. Those videos in spanish language are excellent. Maybe some of the best content available. I think the youtube subtitle's translator does a good enough job, but I don't know how faithful the translation is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv0plm9SVIohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm91wZF70f0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loE6qmxrdgwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9z9s2xfVC8
>>7242542Picrel is pretty good for symbols that show up in any alchemical and hermetic drawing, plus the illustrations in there are cool. I have read from a 19th century book that was solely about European symbols but for the life of me cannot remember the name, simple that I found it on internet archive. There definitely does exist a book solely on what you’re looking for.
