We are almost closing the year. Post your progress and where you want to be next year
>>7354719how many thousands of bargue plates did he copy?
>>7354719>jan vs nownext year i want to get better at rendering and backgrounds. i practiced them this year but not as much as drawing. also been doing yt thumbnail comms so i want to get better at those
Surprised this has barely any replies.
>>7354719I don't got a full year. Can I do 6 or 7 months?
>>7356058I dunno, anon, what even is the point of doing so anymore. I, for one, don't want to get myself lynched by the local for daring to think I did any progress at all, so I'm just going to save myself the insults and continue moving forward.
>>7356065No art = no opinionIf the don't post a piece or a redline of your piece that's better. They can safely be discarded.
>>7356059I dont see why not.
i think it's okay progress for on and off daily (30 mins to an hour) practice for the year. https://files.catbox.moe/alxuvn.pngi want to get a grasp of color/better grasp of folds next year
My drawing ability increased like 10 fold but my colors have not changed lmao
>>7354719Some stuff I've posted here so far this year, I'd like to draw a full illustration by the end of December.
Next year I think I wanna be able to make clean looking animated sprites so I can start work on my visual novel
>>7354731yea insane prog on line art and faces here. hopefully you are studying anatomy too anon
I want to stop making beg mistakes in anatomy and perspective next year. Less drawing from imagination and more using references + lots and lots of life drawing.
>>7356142yeah i do mostly anatomy/gesture stuff. im good at drawing monsters and capeshit but faces and girls are hard
>>7356088I get this may not be what you're going for, but personally I'm a fan of very simplified faces and bodies so I like the before more. The girl's pose is also livelier, which I think helps it compared to the after. Your perspective and anatomical knowledge has definitely improved though. I'd be curious to see what your work looks like if you took some of that knowledge and focused on simplifying more.
>>7356174thank you
>>7356084Cool>>7354719Left is the first doodles i did at work a few months ago. Right is my current wip.I have like a 10 year gap of not really drawing anything. And I'm new to digital only using my phone. But it's a hobby I had forgotten I loved.
>>7356216Fuck I'm retarded. I also should add my goal is just to make competent pictures of cool moments from me and my friends game.
not much progress this year imogoal for next year is to go back to making finished stuff and get better at composition and backgrounds
These are some of the ones I've done this year. Really proud of this year as I've moved away from directly copying references and into illustration from imagination. My current goals have been to learn how to draw the body from any angle in addition to perspective as I think those are my biggest weaknesses. I'm still pushing for mastery of the human body before the year ends as that was my goal i made back in August.
>>7354731Good improvement, looks more natural>>7356088Good improvement, but girls don't have hooves. I think you should check some anatomy references to see what girls' feet look like.>>7356126Holy shit these are excellent. I like that one of the Nike of Samothrace particularly >>7356130Good progress>>7356165Why are degenerate furries usually so good at art?>>7356219I like to doodle at work as well. I have fuck all to do at work and I wish I could spend the empty hours drawing, but I have to pretend to be busy>>7356255coomable - especially the cop>>7356274Holy fuck these are good
>>7356286I can only do short sketches. I have to patrol my tower. And report the perimeter. They also have a camera that watches me. 90% of the time no one's paying attention and I can do whatever. But if I don't do the rounds they'll check.
>>7356354maybe try playing with framing compositions on empty rooms and stairs during the rounds, then draw them from memory. good luck anon.>>7356286Thanks man
>>7356286Thanks! You should definitely pyw if you can :)
>>7354731Good. Looking forward to your rendering>>7356165I dont like furry but damm>>7356255gj, I think I follow you from somewhere.>>7356274I kneelSome stuff from 2024 so far. Just trying different approachs/styles for more or less the same subject matter. I wonder if should settle on a style to be more consistent.
>>7356567Great stuff, I can really see a consistent theme. Haha. I think settling on a style is something you do when you're in the marketing and branding stage of your journey. If that's where you are at then you should begin refining and developing your signature style. At that stage stylistic exploration in personal pieces will be how you develop and refine your signature style in the background while also helping to keep things fresh. Being confined to a specific style can feel almost like a chore at times.
I wish make the ideal version of her and maybe expand her stories to something that is not just doodles.
hopefully I'll be able to deliver my magnum opus by the end of the year
>>7356668really impressive stuff, im a little jealous>>7356567great stuff too, you are both so good at rendering and color. Though I think that greyscale panel is your best work here.
I don't really draw enough to improve consistently
>>7356274Trash
Still far from good, but it's better than it used to be.
Apr and July were somewhat slower months, Aug was very busy, just was in learning Blender.
>>7357168just realized I forgot to move that bunny girl in March, thats from October lmao, not March.
Wish I could stay focused and motivated.
>>7356809love both
>>7357333you already started out at high int
>>7356274I like that you experiment
I need more refinements on the fundamentals but other than that I am happy with it.
I drew a lot less in 2023 than I thought I did
Over a year of the progress. Here' is my thoughts, but let me know what you're thinking >July 2023 Still feels warm>January 2024 Start of her puberty: flat and blocky, monochrome but just w&b are better option, i can't figure put how to draw her long hairstyle and started to draw those ears like thing>May 9 2024 I still have mixed feelings about it, but kinda like it>May 14/18 2024Absolute worst, i simply don't want to talk about it>July 30/31 2024I mean... It's alright. She's looks a bit sloppy and older, but it's feels more like the end of her puberty>August and September 2024It's mid. I don't have anything to say about it>October to November 2024I like how simple and stiff she is(she have an emotionless personality so no action lines are fine), long hairstyle style are back, figure out the new placement for her eyes and nose
first clip from feb, next three were last monthi wanna be good enough to work in japanese productions by early next year>>7356255love your officer subaru anon
>>7358551why the strap-on?
I don't know how to drawest. 1970 (began drawing from that year)
>>7359024Fuck. Holoanon don't leave us if you make it. I love seeing your posts in the animation general. The difference between your first subaru clip and the most recent one at the wedding is pretty stark. That perspective shift on linchou is really cool.
>>7356065>>7356074Fuck me, here it is, this year's worth of drawings.I will admit that not much technical progress was made at all. But looking back, I managed to compensate in a lot of different areas.Although not much technical skill was improved, I did improve my workflow in April, which resulted in a massive speed increase that also allowed me to recover the ability to shade. It made drawing more fun, which was a godsent after the early year identity crisis I had when I finished my first fanfic back in January and realized I hated drawing more than I thought.I also managed to get multiple posts to pass the 1k mark (four, to be exact), one of which even got 20k likes. From 1.3k follows I made it to 1.9k and here's hoping I got those 100 more for the 2k. Social media has been growing pretty steadily and posts are doing really well overall. But the most important improvement of all was my commissions rate. Along with the Yeah Buttons, Omori Portraits and regular pieces, I managed to amass a total of 29 commissions this year, resulting in an approximate of 500$ total. I got plenty of new regulars and a few actual exposure points thanks to some of them. My goal for the 4k to leave this hellsite doesn't seem too outlandish anymore.Given my circumstances, I'm doing what I can, but I have to accept I didn't push myself too much, my art reflects that. But even with that, I am happy to say this year wasn't a total loss, it's even my best art year since 2019, which in and of itself is a whole lot.I am proud of myself, /ic/. Now feel free to lynch me.
>>7359139>alsoFor reference, here's 2023. Looking back, it sure was pitiful. Only roughly 8 commissions total too.My excuse? College and work.
>>7359152No such thing as pitiful work anon. There's only learning and stagnation. And I see no stagnation in your work. I aspire to your level.Badabing
>>7359087It pretty canon he would have one(I am shit at sculpting tiny tiny parts)
Hehe, told myself in 2023's thread I'd focus less on titties but they make for a compelling subject. Still banging my head against the wall trying to learn digital painting/rendering, almost tempted to go back to trad
>>7358002Thank you anon.
There's still so many things I need to learn and improve.
>>7354731Mad gains in line flow, nice work>>7356126That statue picture is sick. Also that's a nice ass Bulbasaur, nailed the watercolour style>>7356130Holy shit, started rough but you've made unbelievable gains for one year of practice. Yer goin' places, kid>>7356165That's the spirit, excellent gains so far in perspective and anatomy regardless. Mad jelly of your linework and shading though frfr>>7356219Drawing for friends is peak. Good luck on the transition to digital, it's a bumpy road regaining that /trad/ soul but you get there. Also is that a fuckin IS12 reference I see?>>7356274Recognising who the centre figure is made me chuckle. Very sick work, traditional training?>>7356567Honestly man the style might not be consistent but the quality is out the gate on all of them. Nailing a variety of styles makes you a real one>>7356587These are the coolest gondolas I've seen in my entire life, very cute>>7356668Def made a breakthrough with rendering and lighting, it's all moody n shit. Times like these I wish I was into feet so I'd be better at drawing them>>7356809Sovl... SOVL!!! You better draw more, you've got a good style to develop
>>7356862Yo these guys rock, you got these up online anywhere?>>7357168That pixel art goes so fuckin hard, great improvement on posing too>>7357333God damn I love your rendering. Please post that spy moai so I may study it>>7358551Can definitely see your progress with the medium, those edges are crisp. Makin me wanna dig out that brick of raw clay that's been moulding in my garage>>7358887Clean as hell god damn, love the vivid colouring>>7359007Eyo this is a cool ass dudette. Good refinement of form but I really dig the OG style, gives me Moominvalley vibes.>>7359139>>7359152Holy fuckin' output, you get the award for most finished pieces. Big step up in quality from last year but last year weren't bad neither>>7359294Aye, I'm in the same boat. Train your weaknesses and you'll go far. Excellent rendering progress
>>7359320>>7359321Thank you for all of your replies, anon
>>7359098i really appreciate that man, don't worry i think i'm stuck here forever lol. most of my art skills are thanks to resources and critique from this board.
>>7359320Thank you, it means a lot
>>7354719I would like to stop drawing anime girls in white voids and actually start working on my dream comic but I can't help myself. I say this every year and I never do it
>>7359321>That pixel art goes so fuckin hard, great improvement on posing tooThanks! The thing I wanted to improve the most this year was Dynamic Posing. As for the pixel art, they're all characters for a short walking-sim project I spent about 3-4 months on.
>>7359934>インターネトジンyou named your game internet person?
>>7360108Yes, well I just wanted to make something to learn how to use Godot a bit for more serious projects, and the name comes from a funny thing I realized that (inter)netizen and インターネトジン(人) sound the same and mean the same thing. That one is a resident or citizen of the Internet. It was a walking sim inspired by ママにあいたい (Mama ni aitai) and heavy inspiration from Disillusion and Milk inside a Bag of Milk inside a Bag of Milk. I chose a walking sim cause it was literally the easiest thing I could think of.
>>7356274nice variety of stuff, didn't know those were all from the same guy
I want to do a wider variety of subjects, and get closer to how things look in my head. Included studies to show why I haven't made any finished pieces recently. It's not everything but it should be a good summary.
>>7356274That is some crazy variety. Great technique, too!
>>7359320I really like the look of traditional painting so I try to capture it in my art. I've been trying to find a good mix between digital, trad and the vibrant graffiti like colors/line work.>>7360167>>7360172Thank you very much! The variety is both good and bad haha. It's great because it's allowed me to know what I like and don't like and what kind of techniques I want to implement into my signature style. The issue is actually carving out my style. Though I think I'm getting close to finding that voice. Definitely next on my list of goals. Stylistic consistency is what grows audiences and makes you "known".
>>7360181>The issue is actually carving out my style. Though I think I'm getting close to finding that voice. Definitely next on my list of goals. Stylistic consistency is what grows audiences and makes you "known".I have the same issue actually. Congrats on putting in the work into finding your voice! Good luck to you.
>>7360182You too fren. Can't go wrong with making what you wish existed. You know better than anybody what you think looks good.
>>7359678Why not draw white voids in anime girls?
>>7356126Amazing
2025 the year of backgrounds
>>7360552You like samdoesarts? Your style reminds me of his.
>>73605522024 really was when you got somewhere.before it was /beg/
>>7360552hella render
>>7360171Good gains with form
>>7359286Your forms are greatLike you said I'd focus on rendering nextMaybe couple it with a review of anatomy aswellGood stuff man gmi.
>>7359678Just do one and dont release it and come back to it in a month
>>7354719
>>7361800I posted this recently so I'll post all the shit I made since I started learning animations
>>7361800Very Impressive. You're gotta be in art school. I've never witnessed such organisation before from self taughtie.2 questions:Did you draw all the backgrounds for Reap What You Sow ?How long total have you been drawing seriously, aint no way u started in 2021?
>>7361229Papa bless, time to dust off the bible ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ
>>7361864>You're gotta be in art school. I've never witnessed such organisation before from self taughtie.I'm out of art school, I went for a meme concept art degree, didn't teach me shit about drawing, just gimmicky shit like photobashing and 3d, all you see is achievable natty self taught gains>Did you draw all the backgrounds for Reap What You Sow ?no the rightmost page which are photos>How long total have you been drawing seriously, aint no way u started in 2021?I started drawing in 2018 but started taking it seriously in 2021
>>7361928You're a legend for showing the process! The pages look like a proper manga though.I'd ask for socials but no worries if you cant.Keep up the good work.
ayy bamp lmao
>>7358887While I don't see much change between years, with how crisp your work is and how solid the colour schemes are I reckon you could make a living off graphic art if you're not already. Are these vector-based?
>>7359934>>7360125You got a page for this online? Looks sick, I'd be keen to check it out
>>7361980thank you, sure you can have my blogshttps://x.com/Hanameru_https://www.instagram.com/hanameru_/
>>7362336I don't think they're vector based cause I don't know what that is. I drew all my shit in krita
>>7362458Sick blog bro.
>>7362343No. As I was working on the mechanics for the game I was hoping I would get a more concrete story idea, not just random characters to each be a facet of my schizo ramblings, but I finished all of the features required, started on more artwork but I had no idea what to do for a story idea so it's unfinished. I honestly would like to finish it but I'm too retarded to make anything coherent out of this. Hearing someone random have an interest in it does inspire me though. What do you like about what you see? How would to expect a story for this to look like? Just curious.
>>7354719I'm really happy with my progress this year (Top is February, bottom is this week)
>>7359139Where are you planning to migrate to, Vnzanon? $500 seems like little money for some but I'm sure it was a lot more significant to you considering your environment. Btw have you thought about making a game like those Vall-halla guys? Seems like a great way to raise enough money to escape and your art is good enough to attract people's attention.
>>7364943you should bethe design of bottom right is very good and the shapes/lines are very clean compared to earlier work, and the shadows on the sleeves show clearly you have a much stronger understanding of perspective and form, despite the design being intentionally flat and geometric, than you did earlier in the yeari don't know if that's an original character or not, but if it is, it's very well-made relative to where you were at the beginning of the yearwell done
>>7359176>And I see no stagnation in your work.Really? I've been doubtful about that, I feel like I did get stuck on a lot of aspects, or at least I haven't done enough.>I aspire to your level. BadabingIf I could make it here, so can you, anon!>>7359321Thanks. Output speed was the mayor highlight of this year, though when I think about it, it's a change that really should have happened a long time ago... better than never, I suppose.>>7365363>Where are you planning to migrate to, Vnzanon?I haven't thought about that yet, I want to focus on the "actually getting the money" part first. My goal is somewhere quiet like a small town where I can live and work without much, but where specifically is yet to be determined.>$500 seems like little money for some but I'm sure it was a lot more significant to you considering your environment. On the opposite, inflation is eating the dollar and currency shenanigans cut my income quite considerable, so getting money in cash is not only difficult, but it can vanish pretty easily.>Btw have you thought about making a game like those Vall-halla guys?I was never into the game-deving stuff, but I do need to find a way to speed up income. I was thinking of making merch stuff, since I've been pretty into the Mario fanbase lately. I'll have to start studying printing and stuff.
>>7361800Very respectable gains anon. Unless you are a degenerate I hope you can get out of here relatively soon
>>7365380Thanks so much for the kind words! Both of the ones on the bottom are studies, but the lower-right is from the artist that did the art for Wildfrost (https://x.com/gaziter/status/1794037684672852453)Hopefully this next year I can focus more on original stuff.
>>7365703fair enoughreproduction is often seen as a lesser skill, but it requires a level of spacial reasoning and consciousness of proportion that not a lot of beginners have when starting outsome of my comments are now overstated given the new details, but keep working, you're doing goodbe conscious of how the artists are using technique to solve problems specific to the pieces you're studying, and you'll go far - it's easy to just become a photocopy printer though if you turn your brain off and just brute force things; anyone can copy the mona lisa with a year's worth of time, a ruler, the patience of a saint, and an paper that will take an infinite amount of erasing and adjustments, but it takes real skill to make a copy that's not necessarily a 100% exact copy, but close enough to meet likeness and having only took a week.speed is one of the few metrics i find useless for personal work (there's nothing really valuable about doing a hobby as quickly as possible unless you're trying to make a profession out of it), but vital for master studies and copies, because it's a proxy for how effectively you're using techniques that are ultimately what saves you time when doing work. i personally write down times it takes me to do master studies, but you don't have to do this.this is especially good when you're making copies of work from artists that share their full process (sketch, refinements, color, post-processing, etc) in video formats, because you see directly how they're applying techniques that you can emulate on your own copy.keep going, and good luck to next year f a m
>>7365412Godspeen anon, we all are gonna make it.
bum
im still figuring out how to color, i used to draw on my notebook since the october of last year and got a tablet for my birthday this year that im using now
bump
i redrew a study from last year and it's better. and next year it will be more better
