I get this may not be what you're going for, but personally I'm a fan of very simplified faces and bodies so I like the before more. The girl's pose is also livelier, which I think helps it compared to the after. Your perspective and anatomical knowledge has definitely improved though. I'd be curious to see what your work looks like if you took some of that knowledge and focused on simplifying more.

These are some of the ones I've done this year. Really proud of this year as I've moved away from directly copying references and into illustration from imagination. My current goals have been to learn how to draw the body from any angle in addition to perspective as I think those are my biggest weaknesses. I'm still pushing for mastery of the human body before the year ends as that was my goal i made back in August.

Great stuff, I can really see a consistent theme. Haha. I think settling on a style is something you do when you're in the marketing and branding stage of your journey. If that's where you are at then you should begin refining and developing your signature style. At that stage stylistic exploration in personal pieces will be how you develop and refine your signature style in the background while also helping to keep things fresh. Being confined to a specific style can feel almost like a chore at times.

Fuck me, here it is, this year's worth of drawings.
I will admit that not much technical progress was made at all. But looking back, I managed to compensate in a lot of different areas.

Although not much technical skill was improved, I did improve my workflow in April, which resulted in a massive speed increase that also allowed me to recover the ability to shade. It made drawing more fun, which was a godsent after the early year identity crisis I had when I finished my first fanfic back in January and realized I hated drawing more than I thought.
I also managed to get multiple posts to pass the 1k mark (four, to be exact), one of which even got 20k likes. From 1.3k follows I made it to 1.9k and here's hoping I got those 100 more for the 2k. Social media has been growing pretty steadily and posts are doing really well overall.
But the most important improvement of all was my commissions rate. Along with the Yeah Buttons, Omori Portraits and regular pieces, I managed to amass a total of 29 commissions this year, resulting in an approximate of 500$ total. I got plenty of new regulars and a few actual exposure points thanks to some of them. My goal for the 4k to leave this hellsite doesn't seem too outlandish anymore.

Given my circumstances, I'm doing what I can, but I have to accept I didn't push myself too much, my art reflects that. But even with that, I am happy to say this year wasn't a total loss, it's even my best art year since 2019, which in and of itself is a whole lot.
I am proud of myself, /ic/. Now feel free to lynch me.

Thanks! The thing I wanted to improve the most this year was Dynamic Posing. As for the pixel art, they're all characters for a short walking-sim project I spent about 3-4 months on.

Yes, well I just wanted to make something to learn how to use Godot a bit for more serious projects, and the name comes from a funny thing I realized that (inter)netizen and インターネトジン(人) sound the same and mean the same thing. That one is a resident or citizen of the Internet. It was a walking sim inspired by ママにあいたい (Mama ni aitai) and heavy inspiration from Disillusion and Milk inside a Bag of Milk inside a Bag of Milk. I chose a walking sim cause it was literally the easiest thing I could think of.

It's great because it's allowed me to know what I like and don't like and what kind of techniques I want to implement into my signature style. The issue is actually carving out my style. Though I think I'm getting close to finding that voice. Definitely next on my list of goals. Stylistic consistency is what grows audiences and makes you "known".

No. As I was working on the mechanics for the game I was hoping I would get a more concrete story idea, not just random characters to each be a facet of my schizo ramblings, but I finished all of the features required, started on more artwork but I had no idea what to do for a story idea so it's unfinished. the design of bottom right is very good and the shapes/lines are very clean compared to earlier work, and the shadows on the sleeves show clearly you have a much stronger understanding of perspective and form, despite the design being intentionally flat and geometric, than you did earlier in the year
i don't know if that's an original character or not, but if it is, it's very well-made relative to where you were at the beginning of the year

I haven't thought about that yet, I want to focus on the "actually getting the money" part first. My goal is somewhere quiet like a small town where I can live and work without much, but where specifically is yet to be determined.

On the opposite, inflation is eating the dollar and currency shenanigans cut my income quite considerable, so getting money in cash is not only difficult, but it can vanish pretty easily.

I was never into the game-deving stuff, but I do need to find a way to speed up income. I was thinking of making merch stuff, since I've been pretty into the Mario fanbase lately. I'll have to start studying printing and stuff.

reproduction is often seen as a lesser skill, but it requires a level of spacial reasoning and consciousness of proportion that not a lot of beginners have when starting out
some of my comments are now overstated given the new details, but keep working, you're doing good
be conscious of how the artists are using technique to solve problems specific to the pieces you're studying, and you'll go far - it's easy to just become a photocopy printer though if you turn your brain off and just brute force things; anyone can copy the mona lisa with a year's worth of time, a ruler, the patience of a saint, and an paper that will take an infinite amount of erasing and adjustments, but it takes real skill to make a copy that's not necessarily a 100% exact copy, but close enough to meet likeness and having only took a week.
speed is one of the few metrics i find useless for personal work (there's nothing really valuable about doing a hobby as quickly as possible unless you're trying to make a profession out of it), but vital for master studies and copies, because it's a proxy for how effectively you're using techniques that are ultimately what saves you time when doing work. i personally write down times it takes me to do master studies, but you don't have to do this.
this is especially good when you're making copies of work from artists that share their full process (sketch, refinements, color, post-processing, etc) in video formats, because you see directly how they're applying techniques that you can emulate on your own copy.
