How do I prevent art degradation? Sure the old one has issues but they can be fixed easily. But "evolving" into a bad style looks pretty hard to correct

Be mindful about your influences. If for example someone dragged you in this board then that person is not a good influence. People will teach you things that feel and sound right but can actually damage your progress. Pay close attention and adjust.

I'm just pre-studying and absorbing knowledge, I haven't drawn anything yet. Will start tomorrow or the day after

Artists who stick to one style run the risk of having this happen to them. If they dabble in all kinds of art, animeshit, realism, old medieval shit, avant garde shit, etc, they'll broaden their horizons and build a wide portfolio of abilities. I genuinely hate faggots who stick to just muh style like isn't art a way to explore those different mediums? Have fun getting bored and not having any frame of better reference, I've met people like this who never step outside their comfort zone and let me tell you, in the some 5-10 years I've known some of these guys, not a single one has EVER done any better than they did when I first met them.

you are over thinking. just draw. your "pre-studying" has already hindered you. Your attitude towards drawing is one of fear. Gonna take a lot to correct that.

What you do as a non professional should be a time of exploration.

Here is a drawing challenge: draw one of your favorite characters, then draw a super cartoony version of it,like how they portray the Teen Titans in various styles dependant on the target demographic. Or,conversely, if your style is already cartoony, then render a gritty version, like what TMNT comics were originally before being gobbled up by the industry and mutated further into more marketable shapes. Sometimes forcing yourself to attempt outlandish things will be rewarded with experience, even in failures, which do not exist. A Failure or a Success is a matter of opinion, and only YOU can do "You",so know that anytime you put pen to paper(or whatever medium it is) you are doing research and development, and eventually you will want to composing a Big Project, requiring both developmental sketches and careful composition. This, for instance, was such an undertaking, and about 300 hours to make. It was done in the stone ages, and I had to take the background and flip it over with tracing paper, and the blue penciling took nearly 100 hours in itself. The mage could have been better, and the Beest has two left hands, otherwise I am happy with it. The challenge was met.

This is not degradation. The one on the right is more painterly. It's clearly someone learning new things.

Thinking the right one is worse is why you’ll be permabeg forever. Left one has worse form, lighting, anatomy, proportions. All she has to do is apply the same stylized look of the left, people have to force themselves to “ignore” fundies after internalizing them

>tries something new
>oh wow i'm not as good as what i'm used to do
Go eat a bullet OP
