Keep in mind that if objects are parallel to each other, like wall paintings and the loveseat standing against the wall, they will use the same VP.
This picture has pretty extreme perspective by the way, typically 1 point perspective drawings have a VP inside of the frame. Try putting it outside of your canvas for a more realistic picture.
Picrel - the kind of perspective where you would see a VP inside the frame.
Good luck!

Same thing, the door, both windows, the ceiling and the steps are on the same plane, so they should follow the same VP.
But, since the viewer is almost directly facing the wall, the VP is going to be very far away, or it's all gonna look warped. Probably not the best setup to train perspective.
Picrel just to maybe give you some idea

this was my first day since middle school long ago actually trying to draw, not worth saving my results but think i made ok progress on lines and shapes and am going over beg books like keys to drawing, utter beginner etc. fun with a pencil does not seem like my thing

my 1st goal is anime grils in variety of poses and perspectives
my 2nd goal is fixing them in a coherent background
shading and colors are very distant priorities except to the degree they might help me with orientation in goals 1 and 2

tomorrow im going to the library as a place to focus, try still lifes and vanishing points with a laptop and paper pad, but i get the feeling i want to just do figure drawing along with (if not the majority of) the work. ive got preston blair cartoon animation and gesture drawing for animation saved but is there a suitable more anime-tailored thing?

I get what he was going for though, your jaw is really round compared to conventional anime style. usually round jaws are reserved for chibis and kids.
>>
>>7369318
Of course, because the original head is basically just a circle. its going to look jank unless you redraw the whole head and not just hair
>>
>>7369320

How shit are your drawings that you would kill for this? I think people say things like this without understanding. Anon your drawings are very cute and you really seem to always try your hardest to draw your girls. Never bend your knee to the people here who are trying to put you down. You seem to have a certain way you like to draw your pictures, There is nothing wrong with that as you are very consistent with it. Your drawings are already good enough that you could be making your manga. It's up to you if you think you should be this adamant to try and improve. Always take what people say here with grain of salt

I know this is like a super basic ass question but can anyone give me advice on learning to blend smoothly/shade in digital? Using Krita if it super matters as i've read some things in trying to learn this that say how krita does strokes vs other softwares is different, but not really sure to what extent it matters. I for the life of me can't understand how to smooth out this kind of banding. I've tried ctrl color picking excessively, using the absolute lightest of pressure to build up layers, circle strokes, spent an impractical excessive amount of time overworking it, and a whole host of different combinations but i just can't figure it out. There's always a border between two values even if it's kinda obfuscated, like with the circle strokes. I know i could just use a blending tool to forceful gauss the shit out of it but, and maybe im wrong, i don't think it's an issue of a bad tool for the wrong job. I've seen a ton of artists who can blend smoothly with a hard round brush and i want to do my best to not rely on gimmick crutch tools unless super necessary.

Realize that it took you one stroke to draw what you drew, but it took him a thousand to draw his.

He didnt have the pressure of having It to look like another drawing. It will stop once you interpret instead of copying

You cannot blend smoothly with a hard round brush. It is hard, it is round, it does not make gradients.

Use a dithered brush like a paintbrush texture to hide the strokes, or use the airbrush.
>>
>>7369618
You need to understand that he studied a lot to be able to place the lines well and drew a lot of bad lines
And that even those lines are approximations he produced with his body of understanding, it's not specifically where he wanted it to be because we never know,
We just learn all the other stuff and then we'll make lines that are more functional

I more or less figured it out. well actually i asked an ai how to do it and it spit out a technique that was what i was looking for(maybe the droids aren't so bad after all). This isn't perfect but i can actually tell that it's a skill issue and with more effort/time i could do it better. Plus i feel like i have way more control over edges/gradients that i've never really felt confident with before. All hard round btw.

Use a bigger brush size, it's kind of messy. Select the area you want to paint with lasso first so you don't go over the lines.
Also, push the darker values more, compare with ref how much darker the shadows and dark halftones are.

i have also never really used a program like this (clip studio paint) before yesterday, i went until it felt like my grasp of the tools was clearly too lacking to do more than fumble around and get frustrated

asked chatgpt where the lasso tool was
and didnt know i could wall off an area just like that, in mspaint you would deselect your selection area going to a brush

>>7369907
You are doing well, its hard, you just need a proper order to work:

1. define the horizon line HL
2. create a picture frame PF (its easier to work this way)
3. define the VPS, if the VPS are far away from the PF, use a measuring line ML, the nice thing about perspective is that lines closer to the HL will flatten out parallel to the HL, the farther the VPS are from the PF the faster they will tend to parallel.

The HL is based on a triangle, so Thales' theorem applies: if a line doesn't follow the fan effect of the other lines, we know that it's not going to the VP.

The picture is the best I could do as the image is distorted.

1. photo ref blocks

5. whatever

this is #2, still life of my folded jacket. black on black wool. i picked it because it said in drawing for utter beginners you'll be more invested in an object you're attached to. i think it was clearly too much for me but i tried to at least resolve the biggest details, i can provide a photo too if necessary. i had middle school art 20 years ago and decided to pick up a pen tablet and start drawing yesterday.

Because he's getting critiques and not them. Most of them are quick to criticize but lack any real skill or confidence to back up their claims visually. They don't really understand that progress has to be made through a dialogue of back and forth discussion and checking, not a "one and done" delivery.
The moment any actual lengthy and meaningful discussion is had they treat it as "shitting up the thread" and attempt to discourage both the helper and the learner while providing absolutely no actionable or valuable insight.
They don't want to draw and talk to learn, they want to dunk and harass other growing artists.

Okay, for one, I'd suggest trying to run some rough sketches with a pencil in a journal. Someone told me to do this with a bit of doodling, to "learn the weight of a pencil". I've been trying it to get a better feel for actually getting shapes understood, since drawing thin lines just, feels and looks pretty bad in my
>very admittedly short
time drawing. Practice makes progress, and don't be afraid to try and get advice from...admittedly harsh criticism. Try to break it down into what could be considered actionable goals and milestones to achieve.
>>
Reading through How to draw the head and hands. Way too much in there for me to implement for a while, but I used his method to construct this head from the front.

So the hairline is supposed to be one third up from the nose, the mouth is supposed to be one third down from the nose... And then another third down is the chin? I think I got it right here, but the nose-to-chin is much longer than I normally draw.

Okay, I will attest that I made that in a pretty stupid way. Regarding the cold, that wasn't some BS reasoning, I'm pretty sure that what happened there was some sort of reaction to taking my medication for the first time in a couple of weeks, as well as the fact that the fireplace isn't the best.

I'd also like to clarify, I never said anything about my hand hurting. I just said that it was cold. And I mean that in a physical way. Not pain, but like it was hit with being exposed to the open air.

I can understand how these can be seen as excuses, and I am working to improve some of the conditions I'm working under. I apologize for my first post being very much, bitchy and depressive.

desu new girl could use a different eye shape. keeping the hairstyle is probably fine but i made some quick possible suggestions- top look i feel is a bit "meaner" and bottom is a bit "dumber". im guessing you used watamote as inspiration but she's the only one who really looks like that, consider looking at hidamari sketch or madoka for more blockhead anime inspo. you can see that they make the girls look varied with eye shape/size despite having nearly identical head shape/face proportions otherwise

Probably should have waited to post this on the next thread but screw it.

I did this study, started off very iffy but I think I pulled it off okay enough in the end (I still can't draw eyes well for the life of me). One of the main issues I was facing was "Do I truly understand what I am drawing?", especially when it came to the muzzle which I struggled to really make feel 3D, so I decided to trace the basic shapes of her over on the right.

Does it seem like I understand what I am looking at well enough or not? I can't really tell most of the time.

You are probably referring to how her face is a tad deformed/squishy like for expression sake. I do agree it probably wasn't the best one to go for.

And yes that has crossed my mind, I should do a study of a real animal at some point.
>>

Yeah, maybe I did it because I felt it would be a "challenge" (which is a mindset I keep having lately), but yeah I will have to go for a more conventional expression next.

One issue I am having btw is I really suck at the base construction of a character still. I think I struggle to tell if I am being accurate or not if I draw a very blank sketch of my subject which is why I just kinda try to emulate what I see sometimes awkwardly and messily.

I don't want to go to the other thread, Soda posted in it.

For real tho, this thread was still being actively used and was nowhere near falling off of page 10. The one thread a day stuff is ridiculous.

I'm trying to draw a fictional species known as a Soundbyte. Basically a combination of a dragon and bat. There's, not a whole lot in the way of 2D art really, and I'm still incredibly new to drawing overall. Got a long ways to go.

Tomorrow I'm planning to work on using some shapes to try and better improve face appearance, as well as trying to better match the reference to the 3D models.
>>
>>7370648
There is 5 beg threads in cataloque right now.
>>
>>7370653
noivern pokemon
>>
>>7370656
vs how many cris threads?
>>
>>7370552
It's a soundbyte. A combination of a dragon and a bat. I was trying to replicate a 3D model, but, not to much success. Still, I'm proud of what I did manage to get done tonight, what with me being still new to the process and, not knowing anything about actually drawing, prior to four days ago.

Long road ahead, but I'm going to keep trying. And, outside of electronic music (which I haven't attempted to work on in months due to job hunting), I'm just doing art practice as a way to destress from the constant silence in employers.
>>
>>7370658
Even one is too many
>>
>>7370658
What does that have to do with the fact there's four more beg threads than necessary
>>
>>7370552
And, just to inform, I completely understand. I can even recognize it doesn't look AMYTHING like what the species actually does, outside of the ears and eyes. This was my second time ever trying to do a headshot, and I, still suck at it. But, it's INFINITELY better than my first attempt, which was even worse. Slow progress...but, still progress nonetheless.
>>
>>7370661
we need at least 1 thread per beg
>>
>>7370664
Seems like that's the goal
>>
>>7370648
beg and fig are the only threads worth anything here (in terms of work posted), honestly i think an eternal weekly beg thread would make more sense...
>>
>>7370588
why is this gif 4 fucking mbs?
>>
>>7370671
Yeah, that definitely makes sense.
>>
>>7370671
If beg threads would just get stickied or have bigger post limit. Then there wouldn't be any need to keep making new ones constantly
>>
>>7370674
The issue isn't post limit. The threads would last for a few days if OP didn't make a new one each time they hit bump limit.
>>
>>7370677
I guess you're right. There always is someone who is impatient and just can't seem to help themself
>>
>>7370584
A lot, also i was serious. You draw nice hands. Way better than your heads. Keep drawing and you will improve.
>>
>>7370677
this doesn't makes sense for a general.

Is there any other way to draw eyes from imagination?

I'm reading keys to drawing, but so far he's only talked about drawing from reference.

>Is there any other way to draw eyes from imagination?
nta, but I'm not sure the framing of the question is quite right. it's not so much the "way" you draw but with what knowledge (and of course this is all relative to your particular goals for the drawing). if you want to draw a more realistic eye from memory with this or that angle, you need to study eyes at those angles. there are different sorts of memory exercises you can do, but two broad ones are of either sort:
>look at a reference for x amount of time, put it away, and draw the reference from memory
>draw from reference, then put it away and try to draw it from memory
it would also be helpful to have general understanding of eyes and how its anatomical parts change depending on the perspective of the head. I don't know any in particular off the top of my head, but I'm sure they're out there.

Ok, just you know you could make it big in twitter if you focused your work on a project with some topical stuff sprinkled in, the technical skill is there.
Hope you keep posting friendo
>>
>>7370946
you think so? can you elaborate with the topical stuff?
>>
>>7370990
Yeah man you just gotta find your niche, you have some semblance of an art style, the only thing you need to do is to refine it, work on character design and backgrounds, doing full pieces will help you with this, your Ivy piece would be improved with a full background.
It might be shunned in some of these threads but doing art trends, fanart for series/anime/comic that are currently airing/in publishing or doing stuff that is popular.
The term used by some anons it's trendhopping, the issue comes when some is that your OCs or original works tend to garner less views than your other stuff. Every so often anons make threads about growing your Social media presence so look into it but be take advice with a grain of salt.
What do you want your drawings to be for? Gamedev? Comics? Pinups? Or just find pleasure in drawing?
Please keep posting
>>
>>7370998
I just draw for fun mostly, my goal would be to just be good at drawing characters doing stuff.
Problem is I don't spend as much time practicing as I should to get good and if I do im really slow at it. Got a full time job and some classes I attend too.
Always felt like I wouldn't be able to keep up with Social Media art, so I just draw or doodle when I feel like it.

But thanks for your compliments anon, made me happy. Ill try to post more here. I made the Koishi in the latest OP post too actually
>>
I'm the guy who said he's going to draw for 8 hours. This is the one hour update. Copying from this book.

Will post my updates here, the new thread is very likely to not last anyway. Might as well use up the image limit in this thread.

>Problem is I don't spend as much time practicing as I should to get good
Any amount of time is good, the only thing that matters is that you keep going.
I mean you don't really need to keep up with the current zeigeist but can always archive your stuff, even if it is a small account it will give you a fuller picture of your progress.
Be seeing you buddy.
