Why isn't he drawing boxes? What's going on?These are just 1 minute practice sketches but if you check he's finished pieces you'll see he's clearly very skilled.
>>7372087
>>7372087once you've been drawing for so long, you will stop drawing the constructions on paper, and do the constructions in your head. Autistic entities are filtered by this notion.
>>7372087>doesn't mark out the total length/width of the figure before startingNever seen anyone do this. Must be a /beg/ thing>doesn't draw boxesThat's mostly a /beg/ thing, or a thing you do when studying. The few pros that always use them do it out of habit.>doesn't draw gesture linesYou've misunderstood gesture.>Isn't this exactly the "wrong" way to drawNo.>Why isn't he drawing boxes? He's not /beg/Any other /beg/tarded question?
>>7372096I prefer to think of it as, the "outline" and the "construction" are one and the same. At the linked timestamp for example, when he draws the two lines for the edges of the rib cage and the two curved lines that connect down to the crotch, that's his "construction" for the torso, because the lines were drawn with the knowledge of what form they represent. Construction doesn't have to be literal boxes - it can be done with fluid/organic shapes that represent any 3D form.
>>7372100>You're misunderstood gestureIf "gesture" just means "however anyone starts any sketch ever" then "gesture" is meaningless.Gesture is the squiggly flowing line shit that Vilppu does. And other methods like it. It can't just be any sketching method whatsoever.
>>7372105>Gesture is the squiggly flowing line shit that Vilppu doesWrong, gesture is an aspect of all art, just like composition and color are. Vilppu only tries to teach you to feel the gesture.>And other methods like itGesture is not a method, idiot. You've misunderstood gesture.
>>7372087you're over-thinking it. If you have developed a process which leads to a figure you're happy with, then that is the correct process.
>>7372105gesture is literally, unironically something an abstract painter came up with to sell a book on figure drawing with zero actual figures drawn by him in itI'm not joking
>>7373268and yet literally every animator in the last 100 years has stressed its importance to get an intuition for movement. sooooo
>>7373268Lol ok. What book is that from?
>>7373302the natural way to draw by kimon nicolaides
>>7373313>>7373268Nicolaides did not make up gesture drawing.
>>7373268Yeah bro Michelangelo read Nicolaide's book thats how he knew what gesture drawing was
>>7373322that's croquis, retard
>>7373322Those are clearly outlines, nothing like what Vilppu does or >>7373268
>>7373323Its french for sketch, and it is a series of short drawings that capture the motion and form quickly. So it is gesture drawing. Oh the french must have read his book too!Just because he made up a name for it doesn't mean that he made up drawing that way, retard.
>>7373326pyw, gesturebrained permabeg
>>7373324Davinci did gesture too. You arent winning this argument.
>>7373328Those are more outlines, anonYou're back to just pretending every sketch is le gesture
>>7373329Define gesture drawing. I'll wait.
>>7373330You were asked to define it, retard
>>7373317Should be easy to find someone talking about it earlier, then.
>>7373322A couple of these might qualify as gesture. It’s hard to tell because there’s so many overlapping sketches at the bottom.>>7373328This is not gesture. It’s just a sketch. If every sketch is gesture then the word has no meaning.
>>7373324Vilppu is a huge parmigianinofag and he models his approach on his own interpretation/reverse engineering of the nino's sketches.Like picrel for example, Vilppu enjoyers can imagine him doing a demo that looks just like it because it's basically his approach condensed in a single sketch.Splat at the face and a few very broad strokes all the way down the leg and a couple more to describe the arms. Slightly narrower lines to bracket in the mass of the chest, the legs, etc. Tightening up even more to put in the corners/plane changes, even more to put in some plane changes and start modelling.
>>7373353>even more to put in some anatomy* and start modelling.
>>7372087most pro artists draw the figure like this
>>7373342Yeah for hundereds of years before him people did gesture drawings. You're stupid if you think you'll find someone saying a term he coined. You should spend more time drawing and less time writing, smooth brain. Words and thinking arent your strong point.
>>7373578ok, so find someone in the hundreds of years describing gesture?
>>7373578pyw
