Is this book any good? Or should I go with drawing on the right side of the brain?
>>7372276I never got into Drawing on the right side because it asks you to get a billion retarded supplies at the beginning. Keys To Drawing is pretty good
>>7372276its okay
>>7372276I didn't find either of them helpful. Keys to Drawing in particular gave me a bunch of crippling misconceptions about drawing, and I wasn't able to get anywhere until I discarded everything I "learned" from it. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain can be summed up entirely with the statement "value drawing/painting is easier than working with lines." Congratulations, you now know everything that book has to teach. What actually did help me are Eviston's book, "You Can Draw it in 30 Minutes" by Kistler, and parts of Guptill's "Sketching as a Hobby."
>>7372593>crippling misconceptions about drawingNever happened.
>>7372593>Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain can be summed up entirely with"buy my fucking course"That's about it, that retarded book that was in every /ic/ recommended list is such a disgusting shill pamphlet, it's fucking embarrassing. Even after you sift through it, the only thought worth anything is "stop thinking about object and draw shapes that you see", which you can get in something like "Practice and Science of Drawing" with more good advice.Absolutely vile shit
It's a trash book that literally asks a beg to make a master copy of a renaissance painting for its first exercise and to draw their own ever-wobbling feet. Whoever wrote that glowing review in that "infographic" should go ahead and gas themselves desu
>>7372293>natural way to draw>imitating university art coursenigger the author invented the course and modern gesture. whoever made this infographic is a retard.>>7372276Keys to Drawing and Natural Way to Draw are both excellent.
>>7372601pretty much thisit's a terrible book
>>7372278learning about the education system in america is essential for drawing wdym
>>7372293Hello everyone. I'm a beginner tourist from another board. For every person who recommends me a book there's two more who say it's shit. Is there a single book that can be commonly agreed upon? I was going to start reading Keys to Drawing, but people in this thread are saying its bad. I was thinking of doing The Natural Way to Draw instead.
>>7374361I tried half a dozen "this should be your first book", and keys was the only that made it click for me and properly taught me to just draw what I see, and properly measure things. I'd say the first half of the book is great, but once it gets into shading it gets pretty meh.At the end of the day, everyone's brains work different and everyone will have their own path to art, which is why 99% of courses suck, they won't fit (you) and your personal way of learning, so you gotta experiment and find what works.
It's okay, but it turns you into an asshole if you let it.
>>7374361I think keys to drawing is fine. Just try different books until you find one that clicks for you.For me, it was the eviston book on drawing, but some people dont vibe with it. It's personal preference. You can find many books for free so you can flip through them and check them out first. Or look at a library or book store.
>>7372278just do the workbook
