Just finished the flat colors, and tips on how I should shade this piece? I'm not too good at rendering.
>>
This is really cute anon. Imo the face might be messed up but it adds to the cuteness factor along with the pose. If you want to shade it i suggest you first pick a direction the light is coming from and understand the forms you drew.

Thank you anon :)

Update on the shading
>>
>>7404991
Oh wow anon this is really nice! Your shadow color choice I think works really well and it looks like you changed the color of your lineart which really helps makes it easy on the eyes compared to bold black lineart. Keep it up!
>>
>>7404889
the face is too long
neck way too short
>>
>>7405117
Really? I was concerned about the neck at first but the collar is meant to cover the entire neck so I didn't think it was a problem. Let me know on how I should improve it, I'm willing to tweak the lineart I just want to improve :)
>>
>>7404889
very western
I can't unsee it being furry adjacent
>>
>>7405533
what does this mean anon
>>
>>7404889
Face a little ugly. I agree with the other anon saying it's too long. It doesn't look cute as Miku should.
>>
>>7405543
it's not following anime aesthetics. just take any actual anime and compare the eyes and face. right now you're making things up on the spot or worse, copying from cartoons or western slop, but you should be learning from pure Japanese anime.

my two cents
>make her eyes bigger
>don’t let her legs fade into white, either draw more of them or crop the drawing tighter
>when you’re shading this type of drawing the first thing you should be thinking about is what you want to emphasize and how you want to emphasize it. don’t worry too much about how she “should” work in 3d space just go off vibes. does the miku v2 box art look like a sculpted figurine to you? of even v4x really. put the shadows where it helps the drawing read cleaner - for instance cast shadows under her bangs and skirt.
also i would make her boobs smaller but that’s my preference
>>
>>7405756

opinion immediately discarded

Update on the Miku drawing. Big thanks to this anon for help with the face and neck. I'm learning so much

This is a million times better, good job. Another thing I tried to do but didn't quite explain is the concept of Small Medium and Large.Basically, all professional art that you think looks detailed most of the time isn't, they just imply detail by deliberately avoiding similar size shapes and line lengths adjacent to each other. Maintain this, and avoid tangents, and you will design great hair, light and shadow, everything. In your original work you have the tendency of drawing small lines right down the middle of your bangs/hair spikes, which causes twinning of similar size shapes.

>'m learning so much
Nah, you are really not. You are just mindlessly copying.

Have an actual helpful tip.
Instead of opening your own threads, post in the generals. It's board etiquette, and you aren't following it.
If you didn't know this, no worries. Now you do.
>>
>>7406773
Thank you :)
>>
>>7406777
I disagree, I've learned many genuinely useful tips through this thread. I've stepped out of my comfort zone which is a net positive.
>instead of opening your own threads, post in the generals. It's board etiquette, and you aren't following it.
Thank you, this is my first time posting in this board
>>
>>7406794
I think you've improved too. Now just make the eyes more anime and you're off to a good start.
>>
>>7406773
After reading and watching gorillion ofhair tutorials, why the hell I'm learning of BMS only by a random /ic/ correction post
>>
>>7406794
I agree. You've learned from this thread.
>>
>>7406912
>>7406802
That's because you happened to be lucky and have the based anon who is not only good at drawing but also cares enough to teach you. This is very rare, this almost never happens now days, people don't give genuinely helpful crits anymore because most people are some combination of bad or mentally ill
>>
>>7406794
>I've learned many genuinely useful tips through this thread.
Alrigh, prove it. Draw a new sketch with a different pose without copying the face that anon drew for you.
You only think you've learned stuff, but in reality you couldn't make something this appealing on your own.
1 redline can improve this drawing, it can't improve your skills. Sorry for the reality check.
>>
>>7407034
You’ve provided no value to this thread. I’m not going to prove anything to you. You sound miserable

I just want to say thank you, redline anon. I'm just a random anon who happened to see this post and wants you to know it's appreciated.
>>
>>7407102
As expected, you are just a dunning kruger full of shit that thinks they actually achieved something, while the reality is what I said.
Reality is a bitch, ain't it?

1) choose where the light source is, that way you know where the light will hit your character from and therefore be able to determine where shadows are realistically going to be
2) by using the silhouette of your color layer, create an entirely black later and set it to like 70% opacity, put it over your color later, and start erasing away where the light hits your character

You can make her face appear cuter by lowering the position of her eyes and making her nose smaller
>>
>>7407845
Just because your art is boring enough to not get noticed, you think you are entitled to some kind of special treatment?
Stop being a fucking snowflake and learn some discipline, you fucking lowlife.
Military service should be mandatory, so that softies like you can grow an actual spine.

On critique of the trolling of art.
You need good trolling mileage to even attempt baiting.
Currently you're wasteful in effort, and you exude way more impotent seething than any intimidation or offense, as if your testicles got irreversibly crushed by as little as a baby hand's grip.
Your posts just make you feel very rapeable. Unless that was your intent, put some of your broken backbone into giving it the same corrections that I would've given you were I see you IRL.
Good luck, tiger! UwU
>>
>>7408347
The thing is I'm not trolling.
I think right now you are the one attempting that.
I think you are just a zoomer that feels called out and has to retort to some kind of internet tough guy intimidatory crap in order to trigger me lol.
Don't try to sound smart and tough at the same time. It doesn't work, zoomer.

I like your Miku. I always really liked what a versatile design she has, it's a blank slate in the best way possible.
One thing I'm noticing is the very careful detail and 3 dimensional form in the hair compared to the rest of the drawing, did you reference any figurines while drawing this by chance? Toys/figures can be a surprisingly good reference material to supplement fundies when drawing cartoons.

Your thread inspired me to sketch Miku too, thanks OP
