>"You don't understand anything. You aren't feeling the forms. Try to actually feel them."

WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN "FEEL THE FORMS"?
IS THIS A CRAB PSYOP?
DO YOU MEAN TO SHOW DEPTH IN 3-D SPACE? WHY THE FUCK DON'T YOU JUST SAY "DO A BETTER JOB CONVEYING DEPTH"? HOW THE FUCK DO I FEEL A PHOTOGRAPHIC REFERENCE YOU FUCKING RETARD?

the Platonic forms

You need to literally imagine the tactile sensation of the subject.
First turn off all distractions, then look at your hand and try to feel your finger rubbing against it in a circular motion. If you don’t remember what that feels like touch your finger to the palm of your hand and rub it for a couple of seconds before trying to recreate the sensation from memory.
After you’ve done that try and apply that idea to broader cases and when you’re capable of feeling your own touch without needing to physically touch parts of your body you need to apply that skill to images you’re staring at.
>>
>>7421666
Feeling the forms basically means pretending you're actually feeling the subject. You sculpt with the pen to trick your brain into thinking it's working three-dimensionally. Lie to yourself and pretend you're really groping those tits.

you can't feel the universal, the singular, the eternal, the beautiful. only the wordly, the ephemeral, the multiplex, the base.

>How do I feel a photographic reference?
Anon, you need to train your ability to depict and understand 3D forms. To do so, using a photo is inherently a less efficient method of study. Simply because you are not training your brain into representing them. You can learn in that way of course, it’s just much more deliberate, difficult, and a pain in the ass. Real life objects >>> 3D simulated objects >>> 2D reference

stop being autism and feeru da form.

you can like... feel how it goes back in space.

also certain shapes have better "grip" than others, for example, a square is very easy to rotate to any angle you like, but a circle is terrible for rotating. Good construction shapes are more squarish and angular, to give better grip for angling where you want them to go. Sure circles are fast, but their bad grip means using squarer shapes is usually a better option.

Grab a bottle or a glass in your non-dominant hand and then draw a circle around the cylindrical shape with a pencil.
Then put the object away and draw the same circle in the air, now understanding that with the object out of the way you can approach the circle from any direction. Draw the cylindrical shape of the object in the air.
Then place a paper behind the imaginary circle floating in the air and trace it onto the paper.

It's difficult for me to avoid doing that constantly, but I have no idea how to connect tactile sensations to the act of drawing. Even if I actually physically sculpt something it doesn't grant me any insight on how to draw it.

>HOW THE FUCK DO I FEEL A PHOTOGRAPHIC REFERENCE
You don't, that's why you have to only draw from life. Drawing from photos makes you worse

It IS a psyop. Form is just about giving tridimensionality to your drawing. You can do that with the way yo ushade your drawing, by giving it texture etc. Anything that tells the viewer what shaper te object is supposed to have will help. Look at picrel. See how the lines tells you the object is round? That's pretty much it.

instead of "feeling" a drawing, see the full 3D form.
break the subject that you're drawing inot its individual primitive shapes, then see those individual shapes in the location that you are drawing.

dont feel the form, feeling without seeing is blind, it may work in sculpting, but not in drawing, where there's noting to feel.

it's all 2d, so understand the 3d primitive shapes and apply gradients to shade.
simple as.

once you can do this, you can begin to simplify.

Drawing from photos doesn’t make you worse, drawing EXCLUSIVELY from photos makes you worse.

Like others have said, it's developing a sensitivity for imagining the form as if it's genuinely there. The big one is the Z-axis, going into space, away and towards you. While a paper doesn't allow that, try to imagine you're tracing a form(like a sphere/cube/cylinder etc) Physically lift your arm with a pen(cil) and pretend you're tracing the surface in a straight line away from you and around the form. You'll reach a point where you cannot see the otherside, but you should still imagine that you're tracing it all the way around. This is why people say to think of it as something being transparant so you "draw through", over and around the forms.

While the paper doesn't allow for the forward and backwards movements, you should still pretend it does. When you draw that vertical ellipse, it's not a flat shape, it's being aware that certain points on this ellipse are closer to you while others are further away(backside of a sphere).

It's intuitive perspective

If you pay attention to a lot of good artists you can see them doing these extra motions in space or above the paper, some of it is ghosting others is imagining them drawing over the form.

Think in terms of 3d space.

Why do westoid artists have to be such annoying faggots, this was almost a helpful tutorial
>>
You'll need to be sleep deprived to get it.
>>
>>7421666
feeling the form is a thing buts its more of an intuitive thing you start to understand from repition of drawing rather than something you just switch on. The problem with telling people this is that most art instructors and people giving tips struggle to convey that certain parts of art are intuitive and learnt over time and as such end up frustrating and turning away their students from art because they forget that it isn't an active skill.

If you wanna feel the form I recommend drawing from life. It's kinda hard with humans because we're weird and wonky but drawing objects or plants is a good start and then once your used to drawing 3 dimensionally you can apply this to the stuff you want to draw
>>
>>7426656
I don't see why you're complaining about a butt plug when you have a giant stick up your ass
>>
>>7424587
there are no fucking tutorials for how to draw lines like this. They just expect you to intuitively know how to control the pen as an extension of yourself. Most begs are battling the tablet to get anything done. Even handwriting is fucking unnatural and ugly, its like I'm always manually moving my hand as if I'm a little guy in my head using forklift controls.

for me I literally feel the form in my brain and my own body
>>
>>7427637
How about you feel my form inside of you, anon?
>>
>>7421666
I studied architectural and mechanical drafting as a major in college- but Glenn Vilppu's teachings helped me a lot understand space in the physical 2D plane of a paper. I think why this sentiment clicked to me is because I also practiced the forehand pencil grip, the way my arm moved when a surface is curved as if it was an actual bump on the paper was hypnotic and mesmerizing - try and practice that "fine artist" grip for a bit and see where it takes you.

Do you mean like this kind of grip? I've been thinking of varying my grip, it's good to hear that it's had a positive effect for you
>>
>>7430581
I wish I could use that grip on graphics tablets, the pen is too chunky. hopefully one of these days someone will make a super thin drawing pen.
>>
>>7421666
You can't explain it. At one point it just clicks. When I'm drawing a cross-contour and I get it right it's like I'm simultaneously just putting down a flat line and tracing around a tangible 3D object. I think everybody "feels" it in a slightly different way.
>>
>>7421666
>>7432529
This. It's called 'feel the form' because there really is no better way to explain it. It's something that just happens eventually.
>>
>>7426656
He just had a lot of experience feeling that form in particular.
>>
>>7421666
>>7421692
Maybe I'm wrong, but there's a lot of imagination involved. I sometimes think about it like a mime invisible wall. Like there's resistance
