any tattooers here? are you working professionaly or still practicing?

That's against my religion

I personally think tattoos are really fucking stupid, even the ones that actually look kinda cool. Girls that get the stupidest, ugliest, tattoos imaginable boggle my mind. Like, she would be absolutely gorgeous but she has face tattoos, tattoos all over hands, and a bunch of scribbles everywhere. Why girls do this I have no fucking idea. Even actresses like Ella Purnell just get doodle tattoos that are absolutely awful.

That said, I've probably designed 100 tattoos in my professional career. I think they are dumb but people will pay me to make them so whatever. I don't do the actual tattoo part though, just the designs.
>>
>>7427895
tattoos are a clear sign and symptom of mental illness

People at work have tried to pay me to design tattoos then complained about me to HR when I didn't accept their request.

I was for over 10 years. Then i quit to be a full time artist. But its so much easier to make money with tattoos. I may need to back very soon.

Do they think motorcycles, tattoos and random drinking pics are interesting? Maybe back in school it was.

I hate them. I don't care how good the art is. They are trash art for trashy people, but they are excellent indicator of a mentally ill degenerate when i see one. They let me know which niggercattle can't be trusted since the niggercattle that get them are the shady & sketchy type. Quite frankly, if it were up to me, i'd go full 1488 on tattooed freaks & have them thrown in insane asylums & forcefully sterilize them so that way they can't breed anymore other tattooed freaks. I would then ban tattoo & piercing parlors entirely. Idgaf. Anyone dumb enough to get them would be taxed into obivion since tattoos are known carcinogenics. 20 years ago they were rarely a thing. Now, at least 1/3rd of Americans have tattoos ever since normies & npcs got access to the Internet.

Fuck you & your ugly tats, freak. I hope to see you inkniggers get persecuted for your ugly degenerate inkstains in the future.

I'm a tattoo apprentice. Pic rel I made last night. I'm in the shop 4 days a week. I'm about a year away from being done my apprenticeship. I've done about 40 tattoos so far.

4chan has a massive hate-boner for tattoos, so don't expect this thread to stick around long. Apparently drawing anime CP is totally normal behaviour but tattoos are "mentally ill". Go figure.

>>7429094
Sounds fake.
>>
>>7429222
>Pic rel I made last night.
Decent.
>I've done about 40 tattoos so far.
>I'm about a year away from being done my apprenticeship
Lol.
>>
>>7429236
In my province, apprenticeships are pretty much a joke. Some apprentices only come in to do one tattoo a week, and their apprenticeship is done in a year. There are no rules here, it's totally up to the shop, and most shops just want to get artists taking in more clients. It's a mess.
>>
>>7429237
youre lucky to get apprenticeship anyway, i have to learn by myself on fake and pig skins since theres nothing around
>>
>>7429268
I got really lucky. I live in a pretty rural area and there are only 4 shops within an hour of me. 3 are just private studios that don't take apprentices, and so the shop I got into was really the only option aside from doing what you're doing.

The industry is incredibly fucked up, especially with the gatekeeping. Some other shops found out that my shop took on an apprentice (me), and they've made IG posts advising their clients to boycott our shop, and they've even sent friends in to pretend to be potential clients, and they're really looking for health code violations (someone sent us a screenshot of their messages, with the other artist asking them to do it).

Also, my shop provides nothing (not even paper towels), so I had to buy absolutely everything myself, and they take 50% of what I make. Sometimes I wonder if I would be better off just cleaning out a room in my house and doing it privately.
>>
>>7429087
all tattoo artists have AIDS by default i dare you to find one that doesn't
fag
>>
>>7429275
You can learn only this much, from a village tattooer.
Try to get as much mileage as possible and then its better to visit guest spots in bigger cities, where you can learn from different people.
>>
>>7429302
Cheers mate. That's literally the plan. My mentor is a good starting point, but he's only been tattooing for a few years and probably is in no place to have an apprentice. This shop is a bit of a dead end: crappy location, tiny client base, mostly inexperienced artists (none with more than 900 followers on IG).

But just having an apprenticeship opens so many more doors to shops in the future that will only hire established artists who have done apprenticeships. Most places in my province won't touch scratchers.

this is what i do. and yeah gatekeeping IS an issue in this branch
>>
>>7429372
I've gotten two threats from tattoo artists at other shops since starting my apprenticeship in the summer. One guy sent me a huge wall of text explaining how I was taking food out of his kid's mouth, and I wished I would have screenshotted it before he 'unsent' it. My reply to him was just "lmao". Honestly, if people would rather get art from some newbie apprentice over some guy who has been tattooing 12 years, dude's artwork must not be all that appealing. So far 90% of my clients have come in for my flash, the other 10% asking for 'my style'. I really doubt these people would have gone to him if I wasn't here.
>>
I worked a lot on the country side, would not recommend, if you guys want to do big, interesting stuff you need to go bigger cities.
>>7429372
You forgot to do the "cleaning" part, but yeah, gatekeeping is good, the less competitors, the better. Right?
>>7429392
Where you from, something like this dont happen too often anymore?
>>
>>7429431
Nova Scotia.

It happens a lot here. There is this big group of old artists who have gotten together and they're trying to get the gov to create rules on how many tattoo artists can legally operate in the province. They claim it's because so many people are tattooing in their houses and it's 'unsafe', but of course they're really just bitching and whining that the floodgates have been opened to talented artists, and back when they got their start, they couldn't draw for shit (and still can't) and relied on some hilarious old idea that tattooing is some mysterious, sacred art. They're also bitter that they were treated like garbage during their apprenticeships and now, at least here, it's illegal to treat any staff member (paid or unpaid) like that.

I say fuck em. I don't have respect for anyone simply because they've been doing it for more years than me. If people want my art instead of theirs, then that's their problem. I've only been on real skin for 3 months and I have a full schedule.
>>
>>7429470
its just natural way of things: pioneers get outed by younger blood and their dang technological tomfoolery.
Some other day i saw survey on IG "do you think that tattoo artist should know how to draw?" bit stunning, but there always were a lot of people trying to get on the wagon without hard work
>>
>>7429470
Well that's how capitalism works.
I dont know how the social situation is in Canada. If they can beat you up, without facing any consequences from the law, then its quite an effective technique. It was normal in Europe, 20 years ago, before i started, tattooers worked with biker gangs and they didn't allowed any other tattooer in the city they controlled.
They made a lot of money with this monopoly, but then the state started to regulate the gangs harder, they lost the monopoly and the money as well. Obviously they were to bad at tattooing to compete in a somewhat free market.
If you can achieve a monopoly, by bribing some politicians to over regulate the market its much more effective. But there is not really enough money in the tattoo business to do all of it.
>>
>>7429470
I use to work at a photography studio and my boss would bitch and moan how people were doing their own photoshoots with cheap, good digital cameras (it was 2006) rather than paying him a thousand dollars for a shoot. Turns out photography isn't that hard to do.
>>
>>7429507
Funny because I used to actually work in publishing (still do part-time). It was the same with e-books. my company was one of the first in Canada to really get into ebooks and then audiobooks, and after a few years, they were always just fighting to regulate self-publishing (first with ebooks, then audiobooks), because they felt the easy access to self-publishing was over saturating the market. I guess it's really the same from industry to industry.

Shut up inknigger. I don't have tatts like stupid niggercattle like you. You are an inferior bunch & I'm tired of pretending otherwise. Only reason you niggercattle got inknigger tramp stamps is because of social media.

20 years ago, i didn't care about tattoo degens because they were rarely a thing. Now, i see them everywhere. They are repulsive. They are ugly. All body modifications are cringe. Do you understand how repulsive you inkniggers look to the rest of us who didn't fall for the tattoo meme? Let me put it nicely: YOU. ARE. REPULSIVE.

You're tats scream mental illness, daddy issues, whoredom, & bad decision making. I can't take you inkniggers seriously even at a professional level. You all look like damn freaks from a county fair freakshow side attraction that's right next to a circus. It never ends with 1 tattoo either. Eventually you inkniggers get addicted to getting more tattoos until you look like some demon spawn from hell. It's a slippery slope. That fact the trend more common now is a massive red flag that society has a lot trashy mentally ill niggercattle walking around.

You inkniggers are now giving me a reason to throw the book at you. This shit wasn't common until got access to social media & Internet. 1/3rd of American niggercattle are marked with those stupid ink stains. I hope Project 2025 throws you freaks in the insane asylums. You played a stupid game getting body modifications, so i hope you win a stupid prize. Like I said, inknigger, I hope your kind gets persecuted.

Very little. It only helps to be a little bit more confident to hold the machine. A running machine is very different compared to a pencil or a brush.
But tattooing itself cant really be simulated with anything.

I researched tattooing as a side gig and the gatekeeping in my country is insane. A long blog post revealed that they don't tale apprentices anymore because eery single one of them ends up a competition. Every girl gets ugly tats, so it's a big business - but it's not regulated here and it's the cool hip new thing.
I just think it's a great way for an artist to do good work that actually gets appreciated and has more impact than 100 likes on some social media platform.

But., dear anon please share the equipment you have here. I am very new and your setup seems great. What's model is that inker, which colors do you use, and most importantly: what's that surface you are practicing on?

And share everything else you use, if it isn't too much bother. Such as that light. Feels like everything on amazon is hit or miss.
>>
>>7429502
>bribing some politicians to over regulate the market
how is that capitalism again?

You could say "this is how it works", because that's what happens, indeed. But since this isn't capitalism, blaming capitalism really odd (and personally I always assume that's just some obsessed guy who never grew out of his programming in school).

Big government isn't cool. Your example shows exactly that as well.
>>
>>7429619

Consider tattoos a warning/red flag and be happy that it's so easy to detect bad relationship material.

They are stupid. Tattoos are a brand of the fool. It's basically there to say "hey look at me, I am a mediocre narcissist".
>>
>>7432667
>how is that capitalism again?
This is how capitalism works, big boy. Trying to achieve a monopoly with the help of the strongest agent = the state. You can try to work with criminals, but the really big monopolys are only sustainable by the protection of the state.

Sure thing lad, mind you i was collecting my gear for years from second hand. Most of it is really good condition bought off from people that wanted to tattoo but bumped off the subject (it was harder than they tought) so i managed to orginize my own supply step after step. What i use:
-Cheyenne Sol Nova 4,5mm (highly recommended, great machine)
-Cheyenne Hawk Spirit (good for filling)
-EGO V2 machine (im yet to try it out, its super light)
-Workhouse Ironbitd (coil machine, good for deep coloring i started to learning on coils)
-Workhouse Supreme Black (coil, universal machine i like power it has but honestly rotary Cheyenne ones do the job for me. Keeping it for nostalgia purposes)
-Stigma Rotary machine (yet to try it out, got it really cheap)
My power supply is Pulsar VR1 and have to admit its fucking great in comparision to those cheap ones (i got like 3 of them pretty much for free, they just collect the dust)
Cartridges - its either Cheyenne or Kwadron. Top notch quality but they are expensive, i usually fish for occasion or buy single pieces.
Ink is Pantger exclusively mostly because i managed to find it pretty cheap, its good for learning and doing simple tsttoos. As far i know Eternal Ink is one of the best, but i dont need it yet at this point. Ill take a pic for you

Im using World Famous ink for colours too, they are great. Best stencil gel is Stencil Stuff hands down, all others are mere imitations. Got hand poke pen too, i sometimes use it for details but it works awfully on fake skin.
Im using vheapest fake skin, i think its waste of money to buy "realistic" one eince real alive skin work completly dufferent. If you want to try something "realistic" you may try pig skins, but its messy business mind you. I was starting on pig skins and make sure you buy fresh stuff, not only because of smell but skin need to be soft like human one. Surgeons that learn how to cut bodies learn first on pigs mostly because its closes thing to real human skin. Dunno what else if you got any questions ask but im not n expert here.

it depends on who you are and your following. some of our guest artists get ~2k per day, popular artists get fully booked out before they arrive and others work flash events. usually theyre very established as traveling artists so people jump on the booking when they announce a spot. some of our regular artists were originally guests. one of the og artists made enough money to basically freelance tattoo this way and became a traveling guest spotter
it would be very difficult to guest spot let alone get a shop position as a self trained unknown. a couple of our artists didn't have or finish their apprenticeship, but were hired because of long experience. it would be even more difficult to get clientele and build something steady as a private artist, though. there are some successful self trained private artists here but they but their mentorships are a joke. it's oversaturated, but there are huge waves of apprenticeships open from all the newly well established artists

I ignore women with tattoos, even as a single man.
